Arsenal ‘actively looking’ at January signings

Manager Mikel Arteta claims that Arsenal will be “actively looking” at potential signings in the January transfer window.

In an effort to improve the quality of their squad in light of the extensive fixture list and compete for awards in various competitions, the Gunners invested about £250 million in the summer and signed eight new players.

Injury-related losses cost Arsenal’s last campaign.

In the final few weeks of the season, they did not play defense and used midfielder Mikel Merino as a substitute striker as they finished second in the Premier League for the third time in a row and were eliminated by Paris St-Germain in the Champions League semifinals.

Additionally, injuries have plagued the Gunners this season. While Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Max Dowman have had moments on the sidelines, they have lost Kai Havertz from the opening day.

The backline of Arsenal is now suffering after injuries that primarily affect attacking players.

Jurrien Timber was hurt and Riccardo Calafiori picked up a problem in the warm-up, so Arteta was forced to play Declan Rice in an unfamiliar right-back position against Brighton on Saturday.

Gabriel’s injury-free performance in the 2-1 victory was undetermined, but Cristhian Mosquera, Timber, and Calafiori are all set to return.

“We’re going to be really aware of the circumstances and the timeframe of some players,” Arteta said.

“We must be actively looking, and then whether or not we can do it”
