In Shawu Forest, in the Katsina State district of Ruwan Godiya Ward, the Nigerian Army has eliminated 21 bandits.
The State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, signed a statement on Saturday that contained this information.
As part of Operation Forest Sanity III’s (OPFS III) ongoing kinetic phase, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade Strike Group allegedly attacked a terrorist enclave.
In the course of the operation, several terrorists were neutralized, including those who were swept away by the river as they attempted to flee, and their operational capacity was reduced.

The military team didn’t, however, per the statement.
Around 40 motorcycles and a to be determined number of rustled cattle were said to have been recovered from the bandits, besides operational weapons and ammunition.
Danmusa explained that the crack troops attacked the terrorist positions on May 23 at around 8:50 am, engaging them in a fierce gun fight.
He claimed that the terrorists used their livestock as a shield to flee into the dense bushes and rocky terrain because of the intensity of the attack.
He continued, “The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists relentlessly, including those who were trying to escape by crossing a river.”
AK-47s and others recovered
Following extensive mop-up operations, the troop was able to successfully seize a number of hostile items, including a pump-action rifle, 21 AK-47 magazines, and 17 Motorola Communication (MC) radios.
64 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition, 448 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four pump-action cartridges, two RPG-7 chargers, and one RPG-7 bomb were also recovered.
Five CS 48mm hand grenades, a Baofeng handheld radio (HHR), six mobile phones with three additional batteries, a camouflage jungle hat, and three magazine pouches were also included.
A motorcycle manual pump, an empty wallet, three jungle bags with various charms, and a sum of 15 to 220 were also included.
While operations are still ongoing, the military will keep all the recovered items in its custody for as long as is necessary.
The 17 Brigade Strike Group’s soldiers received praise after the successful operation, according to the Katsina State Government.
Governor Dikko Radda praised the soldiers’ unwavering commitment, bravery, and professionalism while speaking at the State House.
He reiterated his administration’s support for the Nigerian Armed Forces in their ongoing efforts to bring stability and peace back to all affected communities.
