James Argent and Gemma Collins seemed cheerful as they reunited at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland years on from a bitter split where Gemma revealed her ex had called her a ‘hippo’
Former TOWIE lovers James ‘Arg’ Argent and Gemma Collins stunned fans yesterday as they reunited for a festive night out.
The pair were seen at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland five years after their explosive split and Arg’s infamous messages branding her a “hippo”.
The exes, who shared a turbulent on-off romance that almost spanned a decade, appeared to have put their rocky past behind them as they laughed and chatted in front of a stall serving beer and wine.
The pair looked upbeat and smiley as they sipped drinks and mingled with their friends, even stepping aside to have an animated personal conversation at one point.
Arg and Gemma first got together in 2012 and quickly became one of TOWIE’s most talked-about couples, partially due to their frequent fiery rows.
Their relationship finally imploded in 2020 when Gemma publicly shared abusive messages Arg had sent her, calling her a “hippo”, a “fat f***” and claiming she had “more rolls than Greggs ”.
But in 2021, after getting gastric sleeve surgery and shedding almost 11 stone, Arg publicly expressed regret for how he had treated Gemma.
He told The Sun: “Anything negative I’ve said about anyone I deeply regret and I apologise for. A lot of the time, when you say negative things about other people, you’re really saying it about yourself. It’s self-hatred.”
Arg has also spoken openly about the darkest period in his life, which saw him battling binge-eating and isolating himself during lockdown, until his mother burst into tears after seeing him, which gave the reality star a wake-up call.
While Arg has been on his own journey of rediscovery since their split, Gemma’s life has also transformed dramatically. The 44-year-old is now happily engaged to her long-time love Rami Hawash, who has supported her since long before she became famous.
When she first met Rami, she wasn’t a glamorous TV star but a car saleswoman working a normal job. Gemma recently revealed that it was Rami who encouraged her to take the leap into full-time television work, and even financially supported her while she pursued her dream of being a reality TV star.
She wrote: “Years ago when I met Rami I was selling cars! I then gave it all up for £50 a day but it was the best risk I took, and wouldn’t change it for the world. Rami would always say to me you’re gonna make it, you will be successful and would give me money for my hair make up outfit.”
Gemma added that he would hand her £100 every morning so she could get to filming, calling him her “forever love” as the couple prepare to launch their own TV show together.
The TOWIE star has already revealed she is eyeing up 2026 for their wedding, and told fans she wants a whimsical, woodland ceremony inspired by her love of Maleficent.
Despite their messy history, in the past few years Arg has maintained that he wishes Gemma well, and approves of her reunion with Rami.
He previously told The Sun: “I’m very pleased that she started dating Rami again because I’m actually quite fond of him, he’s a nice guy.”
