Mamma Mia’s cast is led by Amanda Costa! The Party, who plays the owner of Nikos Taverna on Skopelos, Greece.
Mama Mia star Antony Costa has named his leading role! The Party described themselves as having done the best job I’ve ever had. The hit television series features the boyband star, 44, as patriarch Nikos the co-owner of Nikos Taverna on Skopelos, Greece.
Mamma Mia! has been around since August, 2019. Over 600,000 guests have gathered at The Party London, where over 1500 performances have been staged, and where guests from 110 different countries have dined, danced, and sang some of ABBA’s greatest hits.
As the sun sets in Skopelos, guests dine at Nikos’ family-run taverna for a delectable four-course Greek feast while a thrilling love story unfolds in front of them.
The taverna transforms into a glittering ABBA disco after the performance, which features timeless anthems like Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, and Waterloo.
You just don’t know what you’ll get from one night to the next, Antony says. “I absolutely love it.” Every audience has a unique audience. There are things you can do while you’re in it besides just let go and enjoy yourself.
In 2023, Antony began entertaining audiences and declared it was a no-brainer to come back. I literally jumped at the chance when I was called back. I was like, “Yeah, I’m around, let’s do it.” Let’s go”!
Additionally, Björn Ulvaeus, one of the show’s creators, has given the party the seal of approval. According to Antony, “Bjorn’s team had this idea of creating this immersive show because he said when you go to see Mama Mia!” People are yelling to get up and dance during the West End show. With Abba, you can’t help but be in the mood for Mama Mia! “The Party got going,” says Antony.
You still want to get up and dance, according to ABBA songs, no matter how many times you’ve heard them. You can see the crowds we have, which include children and teenagers, adults and their mothers and dads, and older people who are just dancing and singing along.
The boyband star claims that it is a testament to Abba’s status as a pop group that they released Waterloo 50 years ago and that they are still singing it out.
Antony’s role in the show allows him to rekindle his Greek roots while also paying homage to one of the greatest pop bands of all time.
I chose to base the character on my late grandfather, his mannerisms and characteristics, and it turned out to be a really enjoyable part to get my teeth into. Don’t get me wrong, I had to do my homework because it wasn’t a character I didn’t know, says Anthony, but it was simple preparation. It’s about correcting his pronunciation and the broken-in English he spoke in. He moved to the United States as a young man to support his family, my father, his and his sisters, and his family.
Antony’s performance is so infatuated with his boyband background that he even declines to acknowledge it. A man who had come from the north came in and said, “Oh my God, I’m a huge Blue fan, and I’m seeing you guys in Manchester!” “, and I thought, “Sorry, Blue people? ” I don’t know what you’re talking about. He seemed unsure, but while the show was airing, Mamma Mia! is set on the Greek island of Skopelos. “films are made,”
The 02 venue is transformed so that as soon as audiences walk through the blue doors they immediately feel as though they’ve stepped foot in balmy Greece – with incredible attention to detail bringing the space alive – as well as the actors working their way through the tables.
According to Antony, “It looks like a village I would have visited when I was a young boy.” I walk in every night, you know, and believe this place of work, which still frightens me.
Even though Antony and her boyfriend dance together every night, there have been some unfortunate incidents in the show’s immersive elements.
The star laughs, “I’ve tripped over, I’ve fallen, I’ve slipped, I’ve done it all,” the singer says. You have to make it appear as though something like that is taking place right now. You still need to make it seem as though it’s your night after hundreds of shows over the years.
“My character would act as though I were going to try to get a go at the waiters if I went over.” We can fix a spill on a beverage. All of it is in jest. It’s fake, but it’s real at the time.
We all yell “Opus” when we hear a plate smash, which is what you would do in any Greek restaurant. It maintains the authenticity!
Antony’s Greek family, who has seen the show four times, has given him the seal of approval. They adore it, especially my father, who immigrated from Cyprus in 1961. When my dad saw it, he said, “You based that on my dad didn’t you?” He noted that it meant a lot.
Antony joined the boyband Blue, with members Lee Ryan, Simon Webbe and Duncan James, in 2000 and are celebrating their 25th anniversary.Mamma Mia! The Party originally opened in Stockholm in January 2016. The O2 London arena tickets including admission, a four-course set meal and a welcome drink.
