Angie Stone, a legendary musician, died at the age of 63 after colliding with a car.
When she was involved in a car accident while returning from a performance in Montgomery, Alabama, the singer was driving. How many vehicles were involved in the collision and whether anyone else was hurt as a result are unknown.
Angie’s tragic passing has been confirmed by her family and an Angie spokesperson, who revealed how devastated and shaken their family is by their loss. Diamond, the singer’s daughter, posted an update on social media on Saturday that read, “My mommy is gone,” along with crying face emojis.
Deborah R. Champagne, the singer’s representative, also confirmed her passing by giving only the most succinct details about the fatal car accident. She also confirmed that the actor had just before the accident that he had performed.
When she was killed in a car crash early on Saturday morning, Angelie left a performance in Montgomery, Alabama, according to Deborah. Angie performed with the hip-hop trio The Sequence from 1979 until 1985 as well as being a celebratory solo singer.
The group set the bar for the first all-female group to sign to Sugar Hill Records, which led to the release of three albums. Other stars have since sampled their smash hit, Funk You Up, including Dr. Dre for Keep Their Heads Ringin’ and Bruno Mars for his track Uptown Funk.
Angie started out singing gospel music at her neighborhood church in Columbia, South Carolina, when she was a baby. Cheryl Cook and Gwendolyn Chisolm, both of whom were friends at school, were just 16 when she joined The Sequence.
She started out as a solo artist in the middle of the 1980s, but her debut album, entitled Black Diamond, was only released in 1999. She went on to make nine more albums before releasing the Love Language album from 2023.
Her son Michael D’Angelo Archer II, who was born in 1998, is the result of her marriage to soul singer D’Angelo, while her daughter Diamond, who was born in 1984, is the result of her marriage to Rodney Stone. When her daughter, Diamond, gave birth to a son in 2008, Ian became a grandmother. In 2012, a second grandchild was born.
Both Michael and Diamond, as well as her two grandchildren, survive on Angie. One tribute posted on X reads, “Losing Angie Stone is such a loss for R&, B,” in response to the fad. I assumed the song was hers because she did so well to cover “Holding Back The Years” for the Love and Basketball soundtrack. praying for her family.
