Location: Roland Garros, May 25 – June

Before her third-round French Open victory over Yulia Putintseva, Mirra Andreeva thanked a fan for giving her a “lucky charm.”

During her 6-3, 6-1 victory over Kazakh 32nd seed Putintseva, the Russian world number six had a small, colorful fabric patch with floral patterns on her bench.

“A little girl put a drawing on my bench while I was out on the court, and I kept it.” The 18-year-old described her as having “my lucky charm.”

“I want to thank that little girl because it’s my lucky charm wherever she is.”

Andreeva, who defeated Jasmine Paolini in the semi-finals last year, is in her third French Open appearance.

Before a brief spell of rain, Andreeva broke Putintseva’s serve three times in the first set and once more for a 2-1 lead in the second.

Putintseva briefly jumped out to take the lead with a score of 3-2 after the players left, but Andreeva won the next four games to advance to the fourth round, where she will face Daria Kasatkina, a close friend.

Paula Badosa, the 10th seed, defeated Kasatkina 6-1 7-5 in her first Grand Slam since moving from Russia to Australia.

In their third-round match, third-round champion Marketa Vondrousova defeated third-seeded Jessica Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The American, who previously did not play in the clay-court Grand Slam, is attempting to reach the quarter-finals in Paris.
