Ruben Amorim’s chaotic 14-month reign has come to an end thanks to his managerial resignation from Manchester United.
The Premier League organization announced on Monday that “Ruben Amorim has left his position as head coach of Manchester United.”
Darren Fletcher, a former United player and assistant coach, has been appointed on a temporary basis and will lead the team for their next game against Burnley on Wednesday.
The leadership of Manchester United, who currently ranks sixth in the Premier League, has unrepentantly decided that a change is necessary, the statement continued.
The team will have the best chance to finish in the Premier League that way.
Ruben has been greatly appreciated by the club, and the club wishes him the best of luck in the future.
Amorim led United to 24 victories in his 63 games in charge after being replaced from Sporting Clube de Portugal amid fanfare in November 2024.
The team also won the UEFA Europa League championship championship in May in Bilbao under the guidance of the 40-year-old.
Amorim’s final game as manager was against Leeds United on Sunday, where the former champions lost 1-1.
An angry Amorim held a ferocious press conference following the game to emphasize that his position was that of United’s manager rather than just as its coach.
He then cut off reporters with a sharp rebuke about “selective information” before making an eloquent defense of his position by reminding the scouting department and the sporting director to “do their job.”
The Portuguese manager refused to clarify his recent comments regarding the club’s transfer plans and made reference to frustration in the lead up to the game.
