Amanda Owen, a star of our Yorkshire Farm, has admitted to having her eighth child, Clementime, at home rather than a hospital.
Amanda Owen admits she “couldn’t be arsed” to go to hospital as she decided to have her eighth child at home. The Yorkshire Shepherdess shares nine children with ex-husband Clive Owen.
Amanda, 51, was almost 70 miles away from her nearest hospital when her daughter Clementine was preparing to enter the world. Having previously given birth in a lay-by and at home by the fireplace, Amanda decided to have the child at home.
She says she had a “few cushions, a rug and a terrier” at the time, joking that the dog was the “best birth partner ever”. Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast with Kate Thornton, Amanda said: “I put my hand down, when I felt there was a head coming, I knew it was all systems go.”
Amanda was aware of the “chance she wouldn’t make it” to the hospital closest at the time, according to Kate. The hospital would gradually become more and more distant as I was frequenting all of the North East’s lay-bys, Amanda explained.
When I went to fill out the birth certificate later, it would say “place of birth,” and I would be literally looking at the AA roadmap.
Amanda, a star of our Yorkshire Farm, says that being in nature helps her realize that a perfect birth is possible and that you have a way of being out of control. She continued, “It’s not about posturing and pretending to be some sort of new age and not wanting any intervention or anything,” but rather the realization that I couldn’t be arsed.
“I couldn’t bear to start the whole thing, which involves calling an ambulance, calling the labor room, and having paramedics arrive. I simply desired to go to bed.
Amanda continued, revealing that at first, she couldn’t find scissors to cut the baby’s umbilical cord. She was prompted to “creep” upstairs to Clive’s dorm and explain what had happened.
She calls Clementine’s birth “the most wonderful thing” and says it was flawless. However, Clive was “surprised” to learn that his then-wife had delivered babies downstairs at the family home.
Amanda’s birth experience included other unusual birth experiences. During the foot and mouth crisis, her first child was planned for home birth at the farm.
Amanda claims that “all went wrong” and that an emergency caesarean was required, with doctors warning her that natural births might come up in the future. Reuben’s son Reuben, she jokes, “fell out after a Chinese takeaway” and was 7 pounds lighter than Raven’s.
Amanda has also discussed her breakup with Clive. She claims to have “shut down” with the 71-year-old after their relationship ended.
She claimed that “physical and mental health are intertwined, and eating disorders like anxiety, depression, paranoia, agoraphobia, and other factors came into play.”
When cruel trolls started noticing her weight loss and calling her names, her problems only got worse. Amanda claimed that despite the rocky divorce, there is still “no tension” between her and Clive because the two still live close co-parents and farm owners.
