Amanda Holden persuaded some of her closest pals to take part in a Saturday-night celebrity primetime spin-off of her new BBC daytime quiz The Inner Circle.

Her actor friends Sarah Parish, Tamzin Outhwaite and Fay Ripley went to Scotland to appear in the new Traitors-style six-parter, in which an all-star cast try to outsmart each other – and aid their non-celebrity partners – in order to win big cash prizes.

Amanda said that having her friends on the show had been fun as they had all thrown themselves into the game, in which the contestants are not only tested on what they know, but on who they can trust.

The series has been described as a quiz version of The Traitors because it relies on mystery and treachery, with contestants competing in games and challenges to build up prize pot.

Who they can trust and whether they are stabbed in the back determine what they bring home. They must work together with others in accordance with the rules to get the prize, but the twist is that they must either back or turn against each other at the very end to win.

Sarah Parish, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Fay Ripley are just a few of the celebrities who came to Scotland, according to her. They’re all my friends, which was great because it gave me a good excuse to have them over for a quick glass of fizz after filming.

Tamzin and Sarah expressed disappointment with me because they were concerned that their general knowledge would let them down. The British Got Talent host claims she has a good sense of how their gameplay will turn out.

None of them are very good liars, even though they were really good! “she laughed”. I was able to sort of say, “Listen, I’ve known Tamzin for 20 years,” or “I’ve known Sarah for almost 30 years, and she doesn’t lie very well, so you’ve got a good one there.” Nobody wants to be sent home early because you have to be a good liar to get through the show, though, depending on how you view it.

Other stars who took part included GMB’s Charlotte Hawkins, Olympian Colin Jackson, ex-EastEnder Danielle Harold, TV presenter Jeff Brazier, singer JB Gill, TV presenter Zara McDermott and Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson.

Six regular players are assigned to a celeb for each duo’s secret cash stash, which ranges from zero to £5, 000. Each pair must use strategic gameplay to determine what each pair has in the challenging rounds, but only they are aware of their own value. The winner receives immunity in each round, and one player is removed until there are only two remaining in the final.

Amanda, 54, expressed her delight at the stars who participated, including former Blue Peter star Sarah Greene, sports legend Sam Quek, actor Nina Wadia, and former Gladiator turned Gladiator, a former Blue Peter actor turned Gladiator. She recalled that Gladiators’ Legend was extremely competitive. JJ Chalmers really impressed me because Ricky Wilson is a competitive person and knows his stuff.

The 25-part daytime series – plus the six-part celebrity editions – will air on BBC1 from October.
