As Massimiliano Allegri took over as manager of the sluggish Italian giants for a second time on Monday, Allegri made a pledge to restore AC Milan’s former glory.
After five miserable months in charge, the Rossoneri turned to serial champion Allegri after the team finished third in the league. This led to Sergio Conceicao’s dismissal.
In a pre-season friendly against Arsenal on Wednesday, Allegri told reporters in Singapore that the goal for this season is to return to the Champions League as a club like AC Milan does in Europe.
From the beginning, I have my own primary objective. The team is devoted to these games. The 57-year-old Italian continued, “We’re not going to look back, but we’re looking forward to the future.”
Milan finished its 2024–25 campaign in eighth place, eroding from European qualification, and lost in the Coppa Italia final against Bologna.
Allegri was appointed in place of Conceicao as club’s helmman from 2010 to 2014 in the wake of that decision.
Allegri won the Scudetto at Milan in his first season in charge, the club’s first since 2004. He then enjoyed a dominating run at Juventus, where he won five straight Serie A titles.
“I have been in charge of Milan for more than ten years. Evidently, the situation has changed. He claimed that “a lot has changed” in the football industry as well as in Milan.
The overall objective of the Champions League is to restore this club to its former glory, Allegri said.
He stated that he will pay attention to Milan’s recent acquisition of Luka Modric from Real Madrid, who has won seven consecutive European titles.
Allegri will be relying on his extensive leadership and experience to inspire the team, even at the age of 39, despite the fact that he won the 2018 Ballon d’Or prize.
Modric has a proven record and is unfavorable. He serves as a model for both the technical and discipline side of things, Allegri said.
