All-British top three in World Para Championships

Paragliding at its best

Poppy Maskill won gold, Bethany Firth silver and Georgia Sheffield bronze as Great Britain clinched the top three places in the women’s S14 100m backstroke at the Paragliding at its best Championships in Singapore.

Firth led the way when she made her daughter’s birth, but Maskill, who won gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, had just enough to break the record for the fastest woman to claim the victory in a new championship record of one minute, 509 seconds.

Alice Tai, a fellow Briton, won the women’s S8 100m backstroke record, earning her second gold medal.

The women’s S8 400m freestyle gold medalist, Tai, who won it on Sunday, set a perfect pace for herself to claim her second straight victory.

I’m trying to manage my week because I have a lot of racing to do, so I’m super excited to be hearing the national anthem again.

In addition, Faye Rogers won silver in the women’s SM10 200m individual medley competition, finishing 0.22 seconds ahead of Turkish Defne Kurt, who set a new British record of 2:28.52.

“We live and learn, but I got a little excited in the first 100 meters, I went out a little quickly, and maybe it could have been a little more controlled going out and getting some more,” Rogers said.

It was a good swim, and I’m happy that it was a PB. At the previous world championships, I won a bronze, which is an improvement.
