Some Aldi shoppers are snagging groceries from the supermarket for a fraction of the original cost, thanks to a certain service. The budget retailer teamed up with Too Good To Go in 2023 to launch its “Surprise Bags”.

These offer customers a chance to bag a selection of items nearing their sell-by or use-by dates for less than a third of the standard price – all for £3.30, guaranteeing at least £10 worth of items. Bargain hunters can grab a Surprise Bag through the free Too Good To Go app, by seeking out their local Aldi store and reserving a bag for pickup at a predetermined time.

Aldi bosses say this initiative has now saved a million bags of unsold food from being wasted, and added: “Just remember, Surprise Bags are made up of Aldi’s surplus food meaning there is limited supply, so make sure to check for your local Aldi on the Too Good To Go app from 10pm to collect the next day!
