Following his success on Celebrity Traitors and the breakdown of his marriage, Alan Carr has revealed his heartbreaking desire to permanently relocate to a castle.

Alan Carr has told how he wants to live in a castle at the other end of the UK after winning Celebrity Traitors – because he is desperate to escape the home he shared with his ex-husband.

His search to find the perfect pad for him, complete with turrets, will be the subject of a new series on Disney+. He told the Mirror: “I’m getting myself a castle. I fancied a change – I’m selling up and going up there.

“For real,” really. My choice, based on my money. We are currently divorced, and it has been four years. I’m still in the house where my ex was. I’m currently ready to mingle because I’m single. I simply need to move.

“It’s so exciting, but I haven’t even seen them yet and I’m going up to Scotland tomorrow to have a look. They’ve got me viewing a few.”

The presenter, who broke down in tears as he triumphed on Celebrity Traitors at the end of last year, also absolutely ruled himself out of becoming a Strictly Come Dancing presenter.

He and close pal Amanda Holden, who currently fronts The Greek Job renovation series on BBC1, have been rumoured as possible replacements for outgoing Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly on the ballroom show.

But he claimed that their role was undoubtedly not their responsibility as a couple because they were both preoccupied with other responsibilities on Wednesday. “Me and Amanda are acting strictly,” He claimed that this was not the case. “I like it, but I don’t love it,” the statement read. And that host should be going with the phrase “I’m seeing a paso doble-gasp.” I’m like, ‘ I don’t give a sh*t! ‘

I’ll watch it, as I always do, but I’m on the telly enough to be okay. I don’t want to start moving forward because he’s just starting out.

Alan, who is about to host new series Secret Genius for Channel 4 alongside Susie Dent, added that he and Amanda were firm friends who spent time together both inside and outside of work.

“It did make me laugh that they said we were being ‘called in for a chemistry test’,” he laughed. “Four years we’ve done that show for the BBC. I mean, if you don’t think we’re going to get on, then just call it quits.”

Alan married his partner of ten years, Paul Drayton, in Los Angeles in 2018 with the wedding conducted by his singer pal Adele. But they split in 2022 soon after Paul, an alcoholic, was convicted for drink-driving. The couple lived near Horsham, West Sussex, which is were Alan now wants to leave.

The 49-year-old said that being on Celebrity Traitors in the Scottish Highlands alongside the likes of Stephen Fry, Charlotte Church and Kate Garraway, had been “the best thing I’ve ever done”.

He said since the series ended he has been accosted by far more people on the street. “I felt like Kim Kardashian,” he laughed. “I went to America and a woman shouted at me from a balcony ‘I see you Traitor!’ Normally I go that way and no one knows who I am.

“Oops, Alan’s so funny, everyone was going at once.” I’m like, “Well, I’ve been around for 25 years. I must have been utterly rubbish. The comedy star left wanting to LIVE somewhere like that after filming Celebrity Traitors at the stunning Ardross Castle near Inverness. And he made the decision to do it this year as his 50th birthday approaches.

Alan, who made the announcement for the TV series, said he had long seen himself residing in a grand and historic location. The working title of the project is Castle Man. He said, “Some men buy a Lamborghini or ponytail during a midlife crisis, but I want my very own castle.” I’ve always had big dreams since I was a boy in Northampton, and now that I’m fifty, I think it’s the right time. Get me over that drawbridge, I only want a turret to call my own.

What an incredible project, executive producer Ben Wicks, finds himself in the position of being responsible for the very real, right royal pain of making it all work. Alan Carr wants to buy a castle that will fit his status as comedy royalty and a national treasure.

We’re delighted to be following Alan’s dramatic, and undoubtedly hilarious, journey with Disney, who thankfully have much more castle history.
