Despite rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), teen striker Michelle Agyemang has been backed to find the strength to reach her potential “without a doubt.”
The 19-year-old will miss the remainder of the season because of the injury, which occurred in the Lionesses’ 3-0 friendly against Australia on Tuesday.
Agyemang scored crucial goals in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals as Sarina Wiegman’s side successfullydefended their European title. He was a surprise selection for Sarina Wiegman’s Euro 2025 squad in the summer.
The Arsenal forward, who was on loan at Brighton this season, said: “Seeing her go down in that game, I think we all held our breath.
It’s a tough one, no words can describe. She said she feels well and is okay with me when I spoke to her today.
She has a very switched-on personality, and that’s what perhaps not everyone gets to see about her. “She is a very switched-on kid, so her mind is already set on it (recovery).
It has a chance to get better, they say. Even if she doesn’t physically stay active and learning. As a young player, we can continue to develop and develop her mind.
She still has a lot of potential, which we saw each week, and is developing as a result of playing and facing difficult opponents.
We’ll now look for another way to do that off the pitch. We’ll train her so that when she returns, she’ll feel as though she’s missed a beat.
Renee Slegers, manager of Arsenal, is aware of what Agyemang is going through because she has already suffered two ACL injuries herself while playing professionally.
She continued, “It’s a very sad time.” You know when these events occur because they will be away from the game for a very long time, so it’s terrible when they occur.
“Michelle has been doing really well, she did a really good job.” Although it’s never a good time, this never comes at a good time.
