Aftermath of deadly Israeli attack on Tehran’s Evin Prison

At least 71 people have been killed by Israeli air attacks on Tehran’s Evin Prison during the 12-day conflict in recent days, according to Iran’s judiciary, days after a ceasefire was declared in effect.

A large, heavily fortified complex in northern Tehran, which rights groups claimed houses political prisoners and foreign nationals, was destroyed by the strike on Monday, the day before the ceasefire between Israel and Iran was declared.

Asghar Jahangir, a spokesman for the judiciary, reported on Sunday that 71 people were killed in the attack on Evin Prison as part of the Israeli-led bombardment campaign that Israel launched on June 13.

Administrative staff, guards, prisoners, visiting relatives, as well as residents of the surrounding area, were among the victims at Evin, according to Jahangir.

The court alleged that Evin’s medical facility and visiting rooms had been targeted.

The judiciary claimed that Iran’s prison system had evacuated prisoners from Evin Prison without giving a reason for why.
