Dick Van Dyke has revealed what the biggest curse of being almost 100 is. The Hollywood legend, who is famous for films like Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, will reach the milestone birthday in December this year.

However, the 99-year-old, who is still working, shared in a Q&amp, A with his producer and actress wife Arlene, 53, that the sad thing about being almost 100 years old is losing his closest friends, especially his peers.

Before Ed’s passing in August 2021, he and his close friend Ed Asner were scheduled to remake the 1970s American sitcom The Odd Couple. “We lost it,” Dick said, “because that would have been so fun.” I’ve lost a lot of friends.

His wife Arlene responded, “He has outlived everyone. Living to 100 is a curse, right? When asked what the key to a long life is, Dick responded that his work and continued performance “energizes” him, keeping him young.

PEOPLE magazine reported the star told the audience at the special Q&A event in Malibu, California: “I’m a ham. I love it. I get a jolt of energy from an audience.” Despite his age, Dick still regularly performs and did on the night with his musical group, barbershop quartet The Vantastix.

He also shared his experiences working with Dame Julie Andrews, 89, in the beloved 1964 movie Mary Poppins. He continued, “I’m not a real singer, so I’m prone to be under, fighting to get up there and sing on top of the note.” Just made the recording take forever.

Julie continued to assist me with her patience and the phrase “Think high” Think about it. And it came out fantastic. She was fantastic. We had a wonderful time together.

The screen icon claimed earlier this year that his strict regimen of regular exercise kept him so young at his age. And because he literally dances between weight machines instead of walking, his well-known all-singing, all-dancing act still shines at the gym.

He described how he likes to take a nap at home after an hour of exercise and swimming in the pool. He asserted, “I’ve always exercised. We still work out three days a week. three times per week. And I believe that’s why I don’t burn like my fellows.

Fellow actor Ted Danson, 77, who is known for Cheers and more recently in Netflix series A Man on the Inside, recalled seeing Dick at the gym in Malibu. He said: “If I got there early enough I would see you literally workout on some weight machine and then – almost like you were doing circuit training – you would not walk to the next machine, but dance. You literally danced to the next machine and I watched that for a couple of weeks.” His wife Arlene added: “He still does that.”
