Liam Rosenior’s appointment as Chelsea’s head coach has arrived in London.

Rosenior, who has left Stamford Bridge, is the front-runner to replace Enzo Maresca, according to a report from BBC Sport on Thursday.

Rosenior’s appointment negotiations are in a very advanced stage, and the 41-year-old is in the capital to finish paperwork before taking Maresca’s place.

The search for candidates to replace Rosenior at sister club Strasbourg has begun with BlueCo, the investment fund established to buy Chelsea in 2022.

Chelsea’s interim manager Calum McFarlane asserts that there is a “possibility” that the new boss will take over on Monday.

After Maresca and Chelsea broke up due to disagreements with club leaders, McFarlane took over as under-21 coach.

Enzo Fernandez’s late equalizer earned McFarlane’s Chelsea a 1-1 draw against title rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

McFarlane stated after the game that he was promised the Manchester City game. So the group spent three days with us.

The new manager has a chance to start on Monday, according to what I was told at the beginning.

Rosenior was photographed at Strasbourg airport on Sunday, sitting alongside the club’s sporting director, David Weir, after taking the team’s 1-1 draw at Nice on Saturday.

The appointment is complicated primarily by Strasbourg’s need for a replacement because negotiations are ongoing with several candidates and they share the same American ownership as Chelsea.

Gary O’Neil, the ex-Wolves manager, is rumored to have spoken with Strasbourg about taking the position.

In light of concerns from some members of the French club’s fan base about the switch across the multi-club divide, Weir and Strasbourg president Marc Keller are in charge of appointing a replacement for Rosenior.

Chelsea possesses the “talent and character necessary for success.”

Rosenior, who presumably led the new Blues team, will be the new owner of the squad that won the club’s second World Cup championship just six months ago.

Yet they are only fifth in the Premier League, one place off of the top five after taking a significant dip under Maresca in December.

However, there is still much to celebrate, and Fernandez’s stoppage-time winner at Manchester City was only the reward for a difficult-to-control Chelsea performance.

Starting goalkeeper Robert Sanchez withdrew before kick-off after failing to recover from a muscle strain before the midweek draw against Bournemouth, and defender Wesley Fofana missed out due to illness.

Chelsea held on to its best form until Tijjani Reijnders gave Manchester City the lead in the final stages of the first half.

After the break, a number of McFarlane substitutions changed things. In midfield, Andrey Santos replaced attacker Estevao Willian, and Fernandez was moved up to a more advanced position as a result of a reshuffle.

When it came time for the equalizer, the introductions of Jorrel Hato for Josh Acheampong in defense and Liam Delap for Joao Pedro in attack were significant.

After the game, Chelsea’s squad celebrated their collective efforts to recover from a broken leg, including Moises Caicedo, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella, and Sanchez, who have all traveled to Manchester.

All the young people who have been injured or suspended are all present, McFarlane said. Colwill [Levi] is present. They are there to support the young people in the changing room. That is not present everywhere.

They are so interested in this group, the players, and their teammates. Although we’ve had everything, this group has shown that when their backs are in the wall, they have the talent and character to succeed. The entire group is really, really proud of me.

Chelsea is three points clear of fourth-placed Liverpool, but only four points clear of Crystal Palace, who is 14th.

On Wednesday, they take on Fulham, one of Rosenior’s former clubs, in the Premier League, and Charlton will host them in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
