A fatal auto crash along the Zaria–Kano Highway in Kano State left 61 people dead.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Sector Command, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
The traffic accident took place on Sunday at Kasuwar Dogo in the state’s Dakatsalle neighborhood, according to the Sector’s Public Education Officer, Abdullahi Labaran.
Two vehicles, a DAF trailer with the registration number GWL 422 ZE and a Toyota Hummer bus with the registration number KMC 171 YM, were involved.

The Toyota Hummer Bus driver allegedly violated the rules by leading to a head-on collision with the trailer, according to preliminary investigation conducted by the FRSC rescue team. The statement read, “The impact caused a fire outbreak that engulfed the vehicles.”
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander MB Bature, contacted the Federal and State Fire Services to immediately expel the fire while the FRSC rescue team moved to the scene for rescue and evacuation operations.

He claimed that 24 people were involved in the collision, and that Garun Malam General Hospital would treat the injured victims at Nassarawa Hospital Mortuary in Kano while the deceased’s bodies were reportedly transported to the hospital.
“Rs1.2 Kano Tow Truck operatives, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, successfully cleared the road obstruction caused by the accident,” according to FRSC, and normal traffic flow has since been restored.
The Sector Commander, CC MB Bature, expressed his deep regret for the tragic incident and extended his sincere sympathies to the victims’ families. He also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured and urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, particularly those that prohibit dangerous overtaking, route violations, and nighttime driving, “he said.
