
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition party, is accused of being the brains behind the current crisis by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.  ,
Wike claimed during a media conference in Port Harcourt at the end of the year.
He also refuted Makinde’s claims that he (Wike) had pledged to mobilize the PDP to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Wike accused the Governor of lying and playing a significant role in the PDP’s growing crisis, calling the claim false.
The FCT minister claims that Makinde’s actions, along with those of some party leaders, have significantly contributed to the opposition party’s internal instability.
He also made fun of Chief Bode George, the party’s former deputy national chairman, by claiming that the former deputy deputy national chairman had little political value for Lagos State.
Wike further asserted that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has been in its midst of a leadership tussle.
He warned that he would look into legal options to compel compliance if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to accept a proposed caretaker committee within the allotted 60-day window.

Makinde claimed that he had received $1 million to back President Tinubu, but Wike refuted that claim, saying that despite choosing to exercise political influence, Makinde chose to work as a “contractor.”
In an effort to control the party structure, he also charged the Oyo governor with orchestrating the removal of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.
The FCT minister also criticized Makinde’s alleged presidential ambitions, arguing that the country’s northern regions would object to such a move.
He expressed concern that Governors now have more financial resources now that President Tinubu has abolished the fuel subsidy, but he also reaffirmed that access to more money could impair decisions.
In response to inquiries about the naira’s value, Wike argued that exchange rates are not the only indicator of economic progress.
Wike once more refuted previous claims that he had never been to a meeting where he purportedly promised to deliver the PDP to President Tinubu in 2027.
The former governor cautioned against singing “On your mandate we shall stand” in relation to Rivers State politics because it won’t automatically give a sitting governor a return ticket.
He claimed that Siminalayi Fubara, the governor, cheated on them and used him as bait.
There is no such thing as “APC 001” in Rivers State, contrary to Wike’s assertion that Governor Fubara is the “number one” political leader in the state.
He revealed that he had organized reconciliation meetings for the governor and the state’s elders council as well as for the governor and the state’s elders council.
He continued, noting that he does not need party and political party leaders’ permission to hold meetings.

Wike addressed a letter to Senator Ireti Kingibe, praising his efforts to transform Abuja into a model city and blaming her for her public criticism of his administration.
Wike criticized the alliance as unworthy in light of the 2027 general elections and the emerging coalition centered on the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He criticized Peter Obi’s alleged transfer to the ADC as unfortunate, noting that the PDP should have been the main opposition’s alternative to the ruling APC but that it had become weaker as a result of internal struggles.
He urged politicians to begin preparing their supporters and emphasized that 2026 would be a full political year.
