Littler booed during and after win over Cross

In a fight to advance to the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championship, defending champion Luke Littler thanked a booing crowd for “paying for my prize money.”

Littler won 4-2 and had a 106.58 – the third-highest total this year’s tournament – but the 18-year-old found it uncomfortable.

More of the Alexandra Palace crowd voted for Cross, who won the 2018 competition in the name of a spectacle and a game for all time.

After Cross levelled at 1-1, Littler, who was a beaten finalist on his debut two years ago, clearly raised his level in set three and clearly raised it.

With 13, 11 and 12 legs, he regained the lead after completing three of the four checkouts with an astonishing 125.25 on that set.

Before Cross extended the match by winning the fifth set, which included a brilliant bullseye finish to defeat 126, the world number one also claimed the fourth set to be in charge.

Cross broke Littler in the third leg of the sixth set, but the 17th seed’s level has recently dropped. Littler then found another level of 117 and was victorious after crossing the line.

“I’m not bothered] by the booing,” I say. Really unconcerned. You guys booed me because you paid for my ticket and you paid for my prize, Littler said on Sky Sports.

No one wanted me to win, but I once more demonstrated my innocence.

It’s not yet within your reach, they say. You must complete the task. After taking two days off, I’ll return on January 1st. We’ll be doing that again because I spend New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in London.

On January 1st, Littler will face Poland’s Krzystof Ratajski or Luke Woodhouse, the 25th seed, in the final eight.

Ryan Hurrell defeated Ryan Searle 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals, continuing his impressive tournament.

Manby, 20, wins aspinall’s latest seed to fall.

Nathan Aspinall and Charlie Manby, both aged 20, continued their incredible run and placed in the top 16. Nathan Aspinall and Charlie Manby were the latest to lose at the PDC World Championship.

In a final-set thriller against Dutchman Kevin Doets, Aspinall, who advanced to the semi-finals in 2019 and 2020, lost 4-3.

The 15th seed had first and third sets, but both were tied, only to regain control with a stunning 170 checkout to win the fifth set.

Doets then took control, reeling off six more legs to win Aspinall for the first time on Tuesday and tying him with world number two Luke Humphries for the last-16 spot.

Manby defeated Ricky Evans 4-2. He is playing in the tournament for the first time.

The Huddersfield bricklayer struggled with his doubles early on, falling short of completing four of his 30 attempts as he went 2-1-up.

However, his accuracy on the checkouts improved as well as Evans’ drop-off, as he secured a spot in round four and a minimum of £60, 000 in prize money.

In his most difficult test so far, he will face Netherlands’ Gian van Veen in the next round, where the 10th seed had a match average of 108.28 in his victory in the second round.

Evans admitted to receiving hate and fat jokes after the game and posted them on Facebook.

Justin Hood, a debutant from Somerset, defeated Ryan Meikle 4-1 to advance.

Before Meikle pulled a setback, he took the lead before Hood put up a setback, saying he would not have to work in 2026, and that he had also confirmed that he would win at least £60, 000 in prize money.

He already ranks as a provisional 63rd in the world, and he stated that he still hopes to one day open a Chinese restaurant.

After defeating Callan Rydz 4-2 in the final third-round tie, he will face 11th seed Josh Rock in the last 16.

At UN, Somalia slams Israel’s Somaliland recognition as ‘threat’ to peace

Somalia claims that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia, poses a “direct and grave threat to international peace and security.”

Somalia criticized the action as a violation of its sovereignty in a letter sent to the UN Security Council on Monday, calling it “morally indefensible.”

Israel became the first nation to formally recognize the self-declared Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign and independent state last week. Israel attributed the move to the United States-brokered Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and a number of Arab nations.

In a letter to the UNSC, Somalia states, “We further note with grave concern reports that this recognition may serve as a pretext for the forced relocation of Palestinians to Northwestern Somalia.”

Somalia also wrote in the letter, urging UNSC members to uphold their sovereignty, noting that “Israel’s actions set a dangerous precedent and risk destabilizing the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region as well as undermine collective efforts and pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.

The letter’s author, Somalia’s representative to the UNSC, echoed the sentiments of the letter.

According to Osman, “This region [Somaliland] is not legally able to reach any agreement or arrangement, nor to be recognized by any other state.”

He continued, “All Member States must reject and condemn this act of aggression without any reservations.” “This act of aggression aims to promote the fragmentation of Somalia.

Reject recognition

On Monday, the United Kingdom stated that it supports Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and that it does not recognize Somaliland’s sovereignty.

It urged Somaliland’s authorities to “address differences and work together to face common threats” and reaffirmed that armed groups had benefited from internal divisions in the nation.

China and other nations, including China, have also earlier rejected the recognition of Somaliland.

At a regular press conference, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said, “No country should encourage or support the internal separatist forces of other countries for its own selfish interests.”

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation, South Africa’s foreign ministry, urged the world community to “reject this external interference and support a united, stable Somalia” on Monday.

However, Tammy Bruce, the US’s deputy representative to the UN, claimed that “Israel has the same right to establish diplomatic relations as any other sovereign state.”

No emergency meeting has been convened, according to Bruce, who criticized what she called the UNSC’s “double standards,” because “some nations, including members of this Council, have unilaterally recognized a non-existent Palestinian state.”

There hasn’t been a change in US policy, according to Bruce, and there hasn’t been an announcement regarding the recognition of Somaliland.

Following a civil war led by military leader Siad Barre, Somaliland dissolved its relationship with Somalia in 1991. Northwestern Somalia is under the control of the self-declared republic, which has its own constitution, currency, and flag.

McClenaghan ‘all in’ after ‘year of physical pain’

Inpho

Rhys McClenaghan had all of his dreams in 2024, but 2025 served as a reminder of how injuries can threaten to derail athletes at their best.

McClenaghan won pommel horse gold for Ireland last year, which was his ultimate Olympic victory.

It marked the culmination of a lifelong effort and a brilliant addition to a resume that already had three European titles and two world titles. He was unaware of the challenging road ahead as he left Paris while carrying the most coveted piece of athletics around his neck.

The County Down gymnast decided it was time to treat a shoulder injury that had been bothering him for a while after missing this year’s European Championships.

McClenaghan hasn’t competed since the Olympics. Even by his estimation, this has been his longest out of the box, but things are already improving.

The 26-year-old has started his official competition preparations for his return to action at the World Cup in Baku in March after being awarded the MBE for his services to gymnastics in the New Year Honours, which he describes as a “huge honor.”

Reflecting on 2025, McClenaghan said, “It wasn’t the year I’d planned.”

In some ways, I wanted to step back from the sport. I moved in with my girlfriend and was focusing on a few things in life, so I tried something different. I jumped at the chance to dance with the stars.

Initially, that was the plan, but sadly, the injury served as the year’s central theme.

“It made me realize how fragile my dream is,” I said.

Rhys McClenaghanInpho

A break from the pommel has undoubtedly led to deeper reflection.

This has made me realize how fragile this dream is that I continue to live out, and he continued, “Sometimes those injuries come at a good time, making you realize how seriously you need to take the training, recovery, and rehab,” he said.

“It’s truly a full-time gig, and if you’re not all in, injuries will happen and mistakes will be made,” said one participant, “I can say that I’m all in with gymnastics, and that really excites me.”

He continued, “I’ve spent time reflecting on my victory in Paris, but I’m now ready to take another step forward and achieve success in the future.”

That’s what really intrigues me, I think. I’m not going to deny the fact that I accomplished my lifelong dream, but I think there is more to do in the sport.

McClenaghan is now getting in shape and back in good health for the exciting year 2026. He also intends to compete in four World Cups, as well as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the World Championships in Rotterdam in October.

Because of the weight, he said, “It’s a great opportunity.”

It’s not to qualify for anything, but what I’m trying to do is win it in every way possible.

It’s always an easy response for me, but it’s also a good time to re-establish my position as the best in the world, get used to competing once more, dust off some slack, and show that I’m still upholding my position.

This year’s surgery should hopefully open the door for a two-year uninterrupted run-up to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 for McClenaghan.

When I decided to have the surgery, “It was a thought that persisted in my mind.

“We now have the opportunity. We’d rather avoid 2025 than avoid a condition that will linger in my memory until 2028. Sometimes you have to think “big picture.”

He continued, “I’m going to take it competition by competition, really work hard, and evaluate how I’ve been competing and performing.”

Max Whitlock, a three-time gold medalist from Great Britain who left the sport after the Paris Games, will be one of the athletes vying for McClenaghan’s second Olympic crown.

I don’t blame him because I missed some time practicing because of my injury, McClenaghan said.

I don’t blame him for leaving and saying, “You know what, this is actually a pretty awesome job, I don’t want to stop this,” he said. He had a good time, and I’m hoping to see him in the upcoming pommel final.

McClenaghan is determined to win another gold, regardless of the opposition.

“The ultimate goal is to peak at the right moment, on the day when it matters,” in contrast to the Paris Olympics, where my routine was the most challenging.

Adam Peaty branded ‘hypocritical’ by ex as he makes major move after wedding

Adam Peaty, the son of Olympic newlyweds Holly Ramsay and Adam Peaty, reportedly chose to change their last names, but his ex-partner has reportedly called him “hypocritical.”

Adam Peaty’s ex has reportedly hit out at his decision to change his name following his marriage to Holly Ramsay. The lavish wedding has come in for heavy scrutiny ever since the decision to snub his own mum was made public.

And as Adam and Holly get ready for their honeymoon, a former Olympian’s ex-partner has voiced her opinion. The pair will go on a two-year relationship with the new double-barrelled surname Peaty-Ramsay, where they will take one another’s names.

However, according to reports, Eiri, the mother of Adam’s five-year-old son, thinks the decision is “bit rich.” Both parties have already approved the Instagram change.

One of Eiri’s friends told The Sun that Adam’s decision to change his name didn’t grant her the same right as their son, which made Eiri feel a little rich. Adam seems to be being a little hypocritical.

Despite the criticism, the pal claimed Eiri was proud to see her son by his side on his big day. Holly was also applauded for her role in the circumstance, by her boss.

They continued, “Holly has had such a positive impact on Adam.” They both have feelings for George. Eiri is aware of George’s gift to her, but she also has a stepdaughter like Holly. She can’t fault Adam for being a father, despite the fact that she claims he has two opinions about changing his name.

Caroline, Adam’s mother, may have been upset by the decision to change their surname, who had missed her son’s big day due to a significant fallout. According to a source, Adam always planned to change his surname, despite the possibility that might be the case. The source told the publication that “His parents may be upset, but it’s not intentional.”

His mother has made no secret of the hurt she is feeling over being ostracised. She has shared her sorrow with the press, telling the Daily Mail on the eve of the wedding: “I don’t think they understand how much they have hurt me; it’s as if they have cut my heart out.

My family is broken; this is my first Christmas without them. Yes, I do have a third grandchild. Yes, I have my other kids, but my family has been divided due to the events surrounding the wedding.

Adam reportedly received a text message from his aunt criticizing him and his bride for their actions as they prepared for their big day at Bath Abbey. She claimed that her message read, “I hope you never experience the pain your mother has endured, and she still loves you.”

“Shame on you both,” it purportedly said. Remember that you caused your mother such pain that her soul screams on this, your happiest day, and each anniversary of your happiest day.

In front of a packed guest list, Adam and Holly tied the knot despite the drama. Sara Davies, a star of Beckhams and Dragons’ Den and Adam, also competed on Strictly with Adam.

The newlyweds are now prepared to become married couples. They were seen jetting off to see where they will see in the new year while on their honeymoon.

Chappell Roan furiously backtracks on Brigitte Bardot tribute after ‘insane’ views

American singer Chappell Roan may have written a hit song in honor of the late French icon, but after learning about some of her own opinions, she has since changed her tune.

After learning that Brigitte and Chappell Roan had different viewpoints on life, Chappell Roan has since rekindled her relationship with them. Bardot, who was regarded by many as the pinnacle of pin-up culture, was saddened by news this week that she passed away on December 28 at the age of 91.

The French model and film star rose to fame after appearing in the 1957 film And God Created Woman. She also had success as a musician. Chappell, a singer of modern day (real name Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, 27), was initially depressed by the death of trailblazer Bardot.

The American singer claimed in a social media tribute that the French singer had had an influence on her own music and that she was a “red wine supernova” fan. Please rest in peace, Madame Bardot. Chappell soon found herself in the spotlight from other social media users who criticized Bardot’s views and controversial behavior, including being detained for promoting racial hatred and denouncing homosexuals as “fairground freaks” in her 2003 book, A Scream in the Silence.

Reassessing her outlook, Chappell shared a further statement via Instagram Stories, declaring: “Holy s**t I did not know all that insane s**t Ms. Bardot stood for obvs I do not condone this. Very disappointing to learn.”

After gaining a lot of media attention as a music and film star, Bardot decided to leave the industry and work for animal rights, a position she held until her passing. The actor reportedly underwent surgery and a brief illness before passing away.

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announced this week in a statement that the organization’s founder and president, world-renowned actress and singer, Madame Brigitte Bardot, who made the decision to give her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation.

The statement added: “The Brigitte Bardot Foundation wishes to pay tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave up everything for a world more respectful of animals. Her legacy remains, living through the actions and battles that the foundation pursues with the same passion and the same loyalty to her ideals.”

The actress, who was later taken to a hospital in Toulon, was said to be at home in Saint-Tropez when she passed away. The actress and her husband Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, 65, and French actor and artist Jacques Charrier from 1959 to 1962, were the couple’s sons when they shared a son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, 65, and were married four times during her life.

Gunter Sachs, a Swiss industrial heir and collector, married her third husband in 1966 and until 1969, respectively. The actress later wed political advisor Bernard d’Ormale, whom she married in 1992.

Bardot was invited to join the Bond family to play in the role in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and she was regarded as the greatest Bond girl that never was. She rejected the role after being cast opposite Sean Connery in the 1968 Western film Shalako, according to reports, after which she reportedly rejected the Scottish actor’s advances.

Following the news that Bardot passed away this week, a number of Hollywood celebrities paid her tribute. Sofia Vergara, a Colombian-American actress, shared a black and white version of the late star with just one red rose emoji on Instagram.

While Christie Brinkley, a model, posted a video of the model, calling her a timeless model of strength and beauty, and quoting her as “I am just a woman who has done whatever she feels like doing”

Kyiv rejects Russia’s claim of Ukrainian attack on Putin residence

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, refutes Russia’s claim that Vladimir Putin targeted his country’s residence.

Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, claimed on Monday that 91 long-range strike drones were used in an attack on Putin’s residence in Novgorod, northwest of Russia.

No one was hurt, Lavrov claimed, adding that the aerial attack was downed by air defense systems.

The strike occurred on Sunday, according to Yury Ushakov, a Kremlin aide who spoke with the Kremlin about Russia’s nuclear negotiations in Florida.

Zelenskyy quickly refuted Moscow’s assertion and claimed that Russia was trying to thwart the peace talks.

Andrii Sybiha, the foreign affairs minister of Ukraine, said the accusations were meant to derail the negotiations.

In a post on X, Sybiha claimed that the claim was intended to “create a pretext and false justification for Russia’s continued attacks against Ukraine, as well as undermine and impede the peace process.”

Russia reiterated its intention to reevaluate its negotiating strategy in light of the alleged attack, with Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs, warning that Moscow’s response “would not be diplomatic.”

Later on Monday, Trump claimed that Putin had called him and that Ukraine had attempted to attack the Russian president’s residence.

Trump claimed Putin made the claim during a call with reporters.

“I dislike it,” I said. When Trump was questioned about how the claim might impact his efforts to put an end to the Ukrainian conflict, Trump responded, “It’s not good.” President Putin told me about it today. I felt a lot of anger for it.

When Trump was asked whether the allegations supported any particulars, he responded, “We’ll find out.”

Peace negotiations are stifled.

The developments come as Ukraine’s fourth-year full-scale invasion by Russia approaches.

A 20-point peace plan, according to Zelenskyy, is “90 percent agreed” and security guarantees between the US and Ukraine are “100 percent agreed.”

However, significant issues remain regarding the future of Russian-occupied territory in the east of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated that the Ukrainian people should decide the matter, suggesting that various aspects of any deal could be decided by referendum.

Following the talks in Florida on Sunday, both Trump and Zelenskyy have hoped a peace agreement might come to an end.

Zelenskyy outlined his phone calls with the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the Latvian president Edgars Rinkevics, and the Finnish president Alexander Stubb, updating them on the status of their communications.

As Trump pressures him to reach an agreement to end the war, he has sought to balance his dealings with his allies in Europe and the US.

On the front line, fighting continues.

Meanwhile, fighting persisted on numerous fronts in Ukraine, with the Russian army claiming that its forces had taken the village of Dibrova in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

According to regional governor Ivan Fedorov, at least one civilian was killed and another injured in the southeast of the Zaporizhia region when the Russians attacked the city of Orikhiv. He claimed a 46-year-old man was killed and a 49-year-old woman was hurt when Russian-guided aerial bombs struck the front-line city.

Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that three people had been injured by Russian shelling in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine over the past 24 hours. He claimed that a 73-year-old woman was hurt in the Hroza village, a 54-year-old woman in Zolochiv, and a 73-year-old man from Novoplatonivka.

Russia asserted that its forces were strengthening or expanding positions in various regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson, and Sumy.

Since the start of the day, 89 combat engagements have been recorded along the front lines, according to the general staff of Ukraine. According to an operational update released by Ukrinform on Monday, Russian forces were focused on the Pokrovsk sector, with fighting still taking place in six different sectors.
