Munich’s Allianz Arena To Host 2028 Champions League Final

Wembley and the newly renovated Camp Nou are both competing for the 2029 final, according to UEFA, while Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena is the only one of the two competing for the 2028 Champions League final.

Munich was the only city to advance to the 2028 final after hosting it in 2025 when Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan 5-0.

Munich also hosted the Olympic Stadium’s 1979, 1993, and 1997 finals, as well as the Allianz Arena’s 2012 and 2025 editions.

The Budapest Puskas Arena will host the final of the season in 2027, while Madrid’s Metropolitano will host the Metropolitano.

Sting performs on stage with TV legend at star-studded charity event

A TV legend joined him on stage as he belted out the Beach Boys classic “God Only Knows” at the glitter-studded event at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.

Pop superstar Sting was joined on stage by Jimmy Nail at a glittering party to help raise £10m for the arts on their native Tyneside. Sting, 74, and Jimmy, 71, belted out the Beach Boys classic ‘God Only Knows’ at the £1,000-a-head star-studded do at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead. Artist Jim Moir, aka Vic Reeves, his wife Nancy Sorrell, Alan Shearer, and Sting’s siblings Angela and Philip were on the guest list to hear a collection of his hits. Artists Damien Hirst, Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor donated their work for a charity auction. There was also a holiday up for grabs at Sting and his wife Trudie Styler’s home in Tuscany, Italy, which raised tens of thousands of pounds at auction.

Vic Reeves, 66, aka the artist Jim Moir, told the Mirror: “I am going to butter him up so I get an invite and see if we can go to his place in Italy. I’ve got some Lurpak in my back pocket.”

Before performing the songs, Sting explained the origins of the songs, including his hits “Englishman in New York” and “Every Breath She Takes,” which Sting eluded as inspiration for his romance with Trudie.

He persuaded him to perform as he introduced Jimmy Nail, who had also been ill with a bug, and made fun of the fact that he had “been around to see a mate who was on his deathbed.”

Sting’s voice is still incredible, according to a customer who spoke to the Mirror. It’s amazing to experience being so close and personal.

“The holiday at his place was listed at less than $90,000, which is what we paid for.” The event will have raised hundreds of thousands for a worthwhile cause.

Before the performance, Jim Moir revealed how he met Sting because the singer had a “hot toddy” to protect his voice before the performance. The Sage founder Graham Wylie and other local business figures, including singer Nadine Shah, sat down with the stars.

In the Carabao Cup final on Wednesday, Sting and Shearer, 55, watched Newcastle United defeat Spurs 2-0. It’s always good to see a win, according to the England legend. He was fantastic at a fundraiser for my charitable foundation. He is a wonderful man.

After the gig, Sting said: “When I was a kid my Dad used to bring me down to the quayside on a Sunday morning and I’d look at this building and wonder what it was. “If we lose cultural venues due to a lack of funding, the entire industry disappears, so I’m here to say we have to protect the Baltic. This area is a hotbed of talent and it needs to be encouraged.”

The Gala marked the beginning of our effort to establish a £10 million endowment fund for Baltic, said Sarah Munro, director of Baltic. Everyone in the room was reawakened poignantly of the value of creativity, culture, and the arts.

Only one Boxing Day game because of Uefa – Premier League

The Premier League claims that the “expansion of European club competitions” has resulted in the English top flight playing just one game on December 26.

Although it has been a long-standing tradition in English football for Boxing Day, Manchester United’s home game against Newcastle United (20:00 GMT) will be the only Premier League game this year.

The Premier League acknowledged the circumstances that have resulted in a smaller number of games on Boxing Day this year, which has an impact on a significant tradition in English football, in a statement released after confirming the fixture list for this year’s festive fixtures.

Due to the expansion of European club competitions, which led to a revision of our domestic calendar ahead of the previous season, including changes to the FA Cup, there are now several issues with Premier League fixture scheduling.

Despite having 380 matches since 1995, this ultimately left the Premier League as a 33-weekend competition, which is fewer than previous years.

Boxing Day is held on Friday this year, with seven games taking place on Saturday, December 27.

Before matchweek 19 begins with six games being played on Tuesday, December 30th, Sunderland face Leeds, and Crystal Palace face Tottenham, on Sunday, December 28th, the final two games will take place on Sunday, December, with Sunderland facing Leeds and Crystal Palace facing Tottenham.

The Premier League continued, “The league can guarantee that there will be more Premier League games on Boxing Day because the date is a Saturday.”

Special arrangements have been made to allow more time to pass between games over the festive season, in line with our commitment to clubs as in previous years.

How have Uefa competitions grown?

Instead of the six midweeks that were once used for Uefa’s club competitions, where the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League now have one week of exposure, the calendar now spans 10 midweeks.

The Conference League’s final game is scheduled for the regular season for the EFL Cup quarter-finals, and it’s also held on consecutive weeks in December.

Crystal Palace are in the Conference League and have drawn drawn drawn away from Arsenal until the final eight of the EFL Cup.

Although a date for the tie has not yet been established, it might have to be held on December 23, the day after each Premier League team’s game.

On December 27, Palace will return to action the day after that.

Agyemang will be back ‘without a doubt’ after ACL injury

Images from Visionhaus

Despite rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), teen striker Michelle Agyemang has been backed to find the strength to reach her potential “without a doubt.”

The 19-year-old will miss the remainder of the season because of the injury, which occurred in the Lionesses’ 3-0 friendly against Australia on Tuesday.

Agyemang scored crucial goals in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals as Sarina Wiegman’s side successfullydefended their European title. He was a surprise selection for Sarina Wiegman’s Euro 2025 squad in the summer.

The Arsenal forward, who was on loan at Brighton this season, said: “Seeing her go down in that game, I think we all held our breath.

It’s a tough one, no words can describe. She said she feels well and is okay with me when I spoke to her today.

She has a very switched-on personality, and that’s what perhaps not everyone gets to see about her. “She is a very switched-on kid, so her mind is already set on it (recovery).

It has a chance to get better, they say. Even if she doesn’t physically stay active and learning. As a young player, we can continue to develop and develop her mind.

She still has a lot of potential, which we saw each week, and is developing as a result of playing and facing difficult opponents.

We’ll now look for another way to do that off the pitch. We’ll train her so that when she returns, she’ll feel as though she’s missed a beat.

Renee Slegers, manager of Arsenal, is aware of what Agyemang is going through because she has already suffered two ACL injuries herself while playing professionally.

She continued, “It’s a very sad time.” You know when these events occur because they will be away from the game for a very long time, so it’s terrible when they occur.

“Michelle has been doing really well, she did a really good job.” Although it’s never a good time, this never comes at a good time.

Canada’s Carney and China’s Xi Jinping take step towards mending ties

With a meeting in South Korea during the Asia-Pacific Economic Summit, the leaders of China and Canada have taken a step toward resolving their long-standing diplomatic ties.

Both sides on Friday met to discuss improving ties between China’s president Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and make a point of talking points.

According to a Canadian statement, “the leaders came to terms with the significance of their meeting.”

According to Xi, relations are beginning to improve thanks to the partnership of both sides.

According to an official report released by China’s state media, “We are willing to work together with Canada to take this meeting as an opportunity to promote the return of bilateral relations to a healthy, stable, and sustainable track as soon as possible.”

According to a statement from Canada, Carney, who was appointed prime minister in March, accepted an invitation from Xi to visit China.

Later, Carney later claimed to be “very pleased” with the outcome.

He said, “We now have a turning point in the relationship, a turning point that opens up opportunities for Canadian families, Canadian businesses, and Canadian workers, and opens up a door for solutions to the current issues.”

The meeting signals a shift in tone and a resumption of diplomatic contact, according to Vina Nadjibulla, vice president of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. There is no evidence to suggest that the Chinese Communist Party’s actions have changed since the prime minister’s designation of China as a threat to international security, so Canada should proceed with caution.

She advised Carney to continue speaking with Chinese leaders while keeping an eye on China’s threats to Canada’s security interests, including its efforts to become more involved in Arctic affairs.

Shaky relationships

In late 2018, relations deteriorated as a result of Canadian authorities” request to extradite a senior executive from Chinese tech company Huawei. Then, in response, China detained two Canadian nationals and charged them with espionage.

Even after the two Canadians, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, who are both the daughters of Huawei’s founder, Meng Wanzhou, and the Chinese executive, Meng Wanzhou, whose ties didn’t significantly improve until 2021, were officially established.

More recently, Canada’s decision to levy a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum and a 100 percent tariff on electric vehicles (EVs) from China in 2024 has shook relations. China retaliated by imposing its own high import taxes on canola, seafood, and pork, and has offered to do so if Canada lowers the EV tariff.

Canada and the US made the final move.

Both leaders discussed solutions for a particular product, such as EVs, canola, and seafood, and instructed their officials to act quickly to resolve trade problems and irritants, according to the Canadian statement.

Xi advocated for growing “pragmatic” cooperation in fields like energy, trade, and economy. US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on both China and Canada.

Carney’s attempt at rapprochement comes as Trump says he plans to increase tariffs on imports of Canadian goods by an additional 10% and as Carney seeks to diversify Canada’s trade away from the US. The US-Canada free trade agreement is being reviewed.

Prior to a business event on Friday, Carney claimed the rules-based liberalized trade and investment system had been overturned, adding that Canada intended to double its non-US exports over the next ten years.

However, Nadjibulla claimed that China shouldn’t be viewed as the solution to Canada’s problems with the US.

Dutch centrist Jetten claims victory in vote where far right lost ground

After beating off far-right candidate Geert Wilders, Dutch centrist leader Rob Jetten claimed victory in a cliffhanger election that will be decided by immigration and housing. He claimed that his victory demonstrated that populism can be defeated.

The D66 party’s leader, 38, is set to become the youngest and first openly gay prime minister of the fifth-largest economy in the European Union. The party received the most votes in this week’s general election.

As evidenced by news agency ANP, he said on Friday, “I think we’ve shown to the rest of Europe and the world that it’s possible to defeat populist movements” and that his campaigning strategy was on track to win.

With a positive campaign and a rise in advertising spending, the pro-EU, liberal D66 tripled its seat count, while Wilders and his PVV Freedom Party lost a significant portion of the support he had received from the previous election in 2023.

D66, which currently holds 26 seats but may gain one more once every vote is counted, is expected to lead the effort to create a coalition&nbsp government, a process that typically takes months.

The party will need to find at least three coalition partners in the 150-seat lower chamber of parliament, with the center-right CDA (18 seats), the liberal VVD (22), and the left-wing Green/Labour (20) seen as candidates.

However, Green/Labour and the VVD’s collaboration is questioned. Before the election, VVD leader Dilan Yesilgoz argued that a center-right coalition “would not work” and that a coalition with Green/Labour “would not work.”

After retiring as EU Vice President, the Green/Labour group will choose a new leader on Monday.

Jetten urged the left-to-right mainstream parties to unite on Friday. He said, “We want to find a majority who will eagerly work on issues like the housing market, migration, climate, and economy.”

“Serious challenges”

Given that his party has a razor-thin lead of only thousands of votes over Wilders and his PVV Freedom Party, Jetten faced “serious challenges” as informal coalition discussions started, according to Step Vaessen, who reports from Amsterdam.

Jetten, an ardent competitor who once led Sifan Hassan’s team as a pacemaker, had previously stated that the Dutch wanted us to get to work because they were “demanding us to get to work.”

Wilders claimed Jetten was jumping the gun, pointing out that the results would only be released once the Electoral Council and not ANP, which gather the results from every Dutch municipality, had made a decision.

He wrote on X, “How haughty not to wait,” saying.

Wilders had stated that he would demand that his party have its first chance at forming a coalition if it was confirmed that it would receive the most votes, even though all major parties had already decided against doing so.

Other far-right organizations, including the nationalist party FvD, which wants to leave the EU’s Schengen system of open borders, performed well despite his demise in support.

On Monday, when mail ballots from Dutch residents who reside abroad are tallied, the results will be announced.
