The 25-story Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) building has been completely destroyed, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mandated the immediate evacuation of residents and businesses.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who stated that the government would put Sanwo-Olu’s order into practice, was quoted as saying in a statement.
The governor’s decree is being followed by the Lagos State government, which requires residents and businesses to leave the area right away near the burned Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) building, according to the statement released on Tuesday.
“The government engaged experts to examine the location of the fire, and their findings clearly indicate a significant risk to people and property within a 100-meter radius of the building.”
As a precautionary measure, several nearby structures have been damaged and require evacuation.

He also raised concerns about some shop owners’ behavior, noting that some people have been breaking the restricted area around the fire site.
Some business owners are breaking through the standing barrier at the scene. The commissioner called for this to end because it was “very dangerous.”
In order to protect lives, he also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and urged affected residents and business owners to fully abide by the evacuation order.

Following deadly protests by Alawite minority members the day before, the violence came. At least three people were killed in a bombing that occurred in the central city of Homs as Syrian security forces attempted to disperse the crowds.
One of the dead was a member of Syria’s security forces.
The government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa, which has been trying to stabilise the nation and rekindle international ties after 14 years of civil war, faces yet another setback.

The Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that Syrian government troops would be stationed in Latakia and Tartous, according to a statement from the ministry.

Latakia, which is a coastal region in Syria, has a mix of communities, including those with Sunni and Alawite populations.
Since the al-Assad government’s fall in December 2024, alawite communities have become increasingly targeted.
One of the most deadly instances of violence since the end of the civil war, hundreds of Alawite were killed in coastal areas in March. Some minority groups claim their future is uncertain despite repeated assurances from Damascus that all of Syria’s communities will be protected.

But during her short life, Tatiana worked as an environmental journalist and author and was employed by The New York Times.
She wed George Moran in 2017, and they were parents until 2022 when they had their daughter Josephine. Tatiana had been battling acute myeloid leukemia for years before doctors’ routine blood tests revealed this through her second child.
Only four in ten thousand people are diagnosed with the cancer each year, which affects both the bone marrow and the blood. Tatiana revealed in an essay in the New Yorker titled Battle With My Blood that she had received all standard treatments prior to her passing.
Her family wrote on the JFK Library Foundation’s Instagram account that “our beautiful Tatiana passed away today. She will be ingrained in our hearts forever.

“George, Edwin and Josephine Moran, Ed, Caroline, Jack, Rose and Rory. ” At the time of sharing her diagnosis, Tatiana said: “I did not — could not — believe that they were talking about me. ” She added that she required chemotherapy and a bone-marrow transplant.

She added: “I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t sick. I didn’t feel sick. Tanzania reached the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time, 45 years after their maiden appearance, by coming from behind to draw 1-1 with fellow qualifiers Tunisia in Rabat.
