Neil Young’s headliner at Glastonbury Festival failed to attract large crowds when it kicked off on Saturday night, we can reveal.

The iconic singer, best known for songs such as Rockin’ In The Free World, Like A Hurricane and Cinnamon Girl, headlined the festival’s Pyramid Stage on Saturday night with his band the Chrome Hearts. He opened his set with the song Sugar Mountain, saying “thank you folks” to the crowd as he finished singing.

The stage was initially smaller than anticipated due to the headlining set’s size. However, more people joined the crowd to watch Neil perform his hits, including Harvest Moon, as he started playing, and the size of the crowd increased.

The crowd appeared sparse just 10 minutes before Neil’s performance in an image shared by a festival-goer on X. Neil Young on in ten minutes, the photo’s caption read. That is a pretty small ol crowd. “.

Another person claimed that Charli XCX’s “Aurora audience” is likely more popular than Neil Young’s. The person who published the photo at the beginning said: “Yeah. Skepta just arrived there, and it was already “overrammed” there.

One person remarked, “It is a festival that is more geared toward young people.” According to some, “Pyramid stage field isn’t even 1/4 full by looks.” Shame on Neil Young, who sounds fairly good.

Some people posted comments on social media saying they didn’t like Neil as a headliner, and that they thought it was the worst Glasto Saturday night pyramid booking ever. He’s more of a Sunday evening slot, I suppose.

Another claimed that Neil Young should not headline Glastonbury on Saturday night. Zero production value, and the audience appears to be dozing off. This #Glastonbury set is not the one, according to another user who tweeted: “Neil Young may be a legend in his own right.” especially for a headline for Saturday.

However, some online users expressed more positive thoughts, such as “Wife’s favorite on now, Neil Young.” She is yelling along. Another user tweeted, “Neil Young demonstrating the process to every guitarist”! “No words can express how much I love this man,” a fan said.

There were “terrifying people questioning Neil Young’s leadership of Glasto.” one of the greatest rockers and song writers in the past 50 years. God bless Neil Young, another wrote.

Initially, the BBC said Neil’s set would not be shown on TV “at the artist’s request” but earlier today, the singer had a change of heart and it was eventually shown on TV. A spokesperson for the BBC said: “We are delighted to confirm that Neil Young’s headline set from Glastonbury on Saturday will be broadcast live to audiences across the UK on the BBC.”

During his performance, Neil appeared to make a reference at the BBC streaming his set as he said at some point: “Hello to people watching in their bedrooms.” Among the songs he performed this evening were Be The Rain, When You Dance I Can Really Love, Cinnamon Girl and Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black), with lyrics that reference Johnny Rotten, the stage name of Sex Pistols’ John Lydon. Neil announced last year he would play Glastonbury in 2025, only to retract his decision upon learning of the BBC’s involvement, but then later changed his mind.

Colin Paterson, a presenter for the BBC, responded to my earlier question on Friday: “I asked [event co-organisator] Emily Eavis what was going on. She said she doesn’t think Neil Young’s set will be broadcast by the BBC. There have been various backstage arguing and negotiations, but the BBC won’t be able to broadcast Neil Young’s headline performance on Saturday night as it stands right now. Instead, Charli will be shown.

Only five songs were broadcast during Neil’s 2009 performance at Glastonbury. When Mark Cooper, the then executive producer of the BBC’s Glastonbury coverage, said: “Neil Young’s career has been conducted on his own terms. They think the live performance will keep its mystery and that of its creator.

They have chosen to publish one song online over the weekend to give a taste of his set. They made the decision to decide that in the Free World. “You won’t likely find too many Neil Young performances on television or the internet for free.”

Protesters flood Venice’s streets during Amazon founder Bezos’s wedding

On the third day of a multimillion-dollar celebration, hundreds of protesters marched through Venice to say “no” to the wedding of Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos.

On the secluded island of San Giorgio, the fourth-richest man in the world, Bezos, and his bride, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, were married in a private ceremony on Friday.

Protesters threw banners at Venice’s central streets before the final party on Saturday night as part of a three-day wedding celebration that read “Kisses Yes, Bezos No” and “No Bezos, no War” and filled the streets with people before the ceremony, which took place on Saturday night.

The list of Lauren Sanchez’s 27 dresses read, “The planet is burning, but don’t worry, here’s the list,” according to another poster.

Residents of Venice have been protesting for the past few days over what they have described as anger because Venice is plagued by overtourism, high housing costs, and the ongoing threat of climate-induced flooding.

One of the demonstrators, Martina Vergnano, claimed that they were present to “continue ruining the plans of these wealthy people, who accumulate money by exploiting many other people, while the conditions of this city remain precarious.”

Bezos gave one million euros ($1.11 million) each to three environmental research organizations working to preserve Venice, according to the Venetian Environmental Research Association.

Residents of Venice, who also signed up for the protest on Saturday, have a “free Venice that is ultimately dedicated to its citizens.”

According to Cogo, “Those donations are just a misery and are only intended to purge Bezos’ conscience.”

Venetian politicians and business leaders welcomed the wedding despite the protests and praised it as a significant economic boost.

The protesters “in contravention with the history of Venice, which is one of relations, contacts, and business,” according to Mayor Luigi Brugnaro.

“Bezos embodies the Venetian mentality,” he says. The center-right mayor claimed that he was hoping Bezos would make a city-wide business trip. “He is more Venetian than the protesters.

GB & Ireland beat Europe to win Vagliano Trophy

The R&amp, and A

In their first victory over the Continent of Europe since 2005, Great Britain and Ireland defeated the continent.

The GB&amp, I women again held their nerve in the biennial match, winning 1211-112 at the Netherlands’ Royal Hague Golf &amp, Country Club, following last September’s Curtis Cup triumph over the United States.

I was led by GB&amp’s non-playing captain Maria Dunne, who had led them into the singles with Europe coming away with two early victories.

However, the GB&amp, I team fought back, winning all three of Patience Rhodes, Nellie Ong, and Isla McDonald-O’Brien with one more win than Ireland’s Aine Donegan and Sophia Fullbrook, an additional England player, to claim their first victory in 20 years.

“It’s been a day of unbelievable magnitude,” said Dunne.

I told the team early this morning that today was really good for me. In the foursomes, they did their job, and the momentum just flew our way. I said to them last night, “keep fighting, keep fighting for every single point or half point,” and that’s exactly what they did.

The team that won the Curtis Cup again, including Hannah Darling, Donegan, Beth Coulter, Lottie Woad, and Rhodes, all played their parts.

Ireland's Aine Donegan The R&amp, and A

After a tense finish, Fullbrook held her nerves and won the game against Emma Kaisa Dalgaard Bunch.

With a win of 111-612, Europe did have a good showing for the day.

It feels amazing that we lost by three points at Royal Dornoch in 2023, which is an accomplishment that we haven’t done since 2005,” said Dunne.

Before Aine scored that eagle on the 18th, Patience had an incredible finish to win her singles match. Being a captain is a great honor for me. I’m thrilled that I currently hold both the Curtis Cup and the Vagliano Trophy for GB&amp.

The team’s recent success in winning the Curtis Cup last year, in my opinion, helped this week. In our team meetings, I kept that belief and momentum in mind.

“My three rookies have always done the job for me, and they are incredible. The three Curtis Cup participants saw the conviction and built on it, too.

Naoise O Caireallain, who plays under the name Moglai Bap, said they would “start a riot outside the courts” before adding that they would only love and support Palestine in the wake of his bandmate’s upcoming court appearance. In the run-up to the festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset, several politicians demanded that Kneecap be dropped from the lineup, and Somerset’s Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer remarked that their performance was inappropriate.

Caireallain said during the performance, “F*keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of your country, not mine, said he didn’t want us to play.” In response to calls for the organisers to remove them from the lineup, he added, “they stood strong” and “a big thank you to the Eavis family.”

Around 45 minutes before the West Holts Stage performance, when groups of fans gathered to form a sea of Irish and Palestinian flags, the area was made accessible.

The BBC confirmed earlier on Saturday that the set would not be being live-streamed, but that it is likely to be available on-demand later. At a concert in November of last year, O hAnnaidh was accused of allegedly shouting “up Hamas, up Hezbollah” while allegedly displaying a flag in support of the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

The rapper and bandmates O Caireallain and O Dochartaigh arrived at Westminster Magistrates’ Court wearing Free Mo Chara T-shirts on June 18 and received cheers from hundreds of supporters. He was let go until the following court hearing on August 20.

At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the festival, Haim was revealed as the surprise act on the Park Stage. The band resurrected a raucous rendition of The Wire’s hit single as they bounced on the stage in black and silver. The band’s surprise act featured a red LED sign akin to the one on their earlier this year’s new album, I Quit. The Haim show was about to begin, according to the sign.

Additionally, Haim delved into some of their most popular songs, including Relationships, Summer Girl, and Want You Back, two of their most recent singles. Pulp were revealed to be Patchwork while performing on the Pyramid Stage, with the Sheffield-formed Britpop group humming a tribute to their breakthrough 1995 stand-in headline set.

Kneecap’s opening Glastonbury montage divides fans as band boast over crowd size

After the BBC refused to air their live performance on Saturday, Irish band Kneecap gave a sneak peek of their contentious Glastonbury set.

Irish rap trio Kneecap took to social media to share their opening Glastonbury montage with their followers. The band’s performance at the Worthy Farm event caused controversy with many having called for them to have been removed from the artist list.

While the calls failed, the BBC refused to air the group’s set live on Saturday as they took to the West Holts stage. And the group were keen to give fans a glimpse of what they missed.

Due to the large turnout, they added that they were sharing because some in the audience couldn’t see either. Before Kneecap’s performance, organizers had to inform organizers that the stage had been closed in response to the volume of the audience.

Without prior authorization, content cannot be displayed.

Taking to Twitter/X, the band said: “We made a wee intro video for Glasto – crowd was so big a good few heads couldn’t see it so here yis go x,” and also added a popcorn emoji. The clip showed a number of high profile people who were against their appearance.

It included Sharon Osbourne, who was booed by the crowd at the set. Keir Starmer and other political members also featured in the upload.

On social media, users were divided over the video. Some people adored the stance, but others criticized the band. One user wrote, “Boasting about having the counter terrorism squad investigating you isn’t the flex you think it is.”

However, another was full of praise, saying: “What an intro,” alongside a fire emoji. Another said: “Class lads,” with an okay hand emoji. And another urged the band to share an unedited version of their set after they joked on stage that BBC would have their hands full in the editing studios.

As the musicians performed to a raucous audience, “f*** Keir Starmer” screamed loudly in different tempos.

Mo Chara also defiantly declared his independence to the thousands of fans present. Following his court appearance last week, he received it.

The 27-year-old was alleged to have been “well within his rights” to express his views on Israel and Palestine during the court hearing, but the alleged incident is “wholly different.”

Prosecutor Michael Bisgrove stated at the hearing that “support for one is not the same as support for the other.” The issue with this case, and why it has been brought to court, is primarily centered on Mr. hAnnaidh’s apparent support of a prohibited terrorist organization.

Until his next hearing in the same court on August 20th, hAnnaidh was released on unconditional bail. The band’s controversial Glastonbury set was permitted as a result of his release.

However, the band made a point of reiterating that “the story isn’t Kneecap.” They stated that the main topic of conversation should not be about themselves, but that Palestine should be the subject of attention.
