Royal bombshells during Donald Trump’s visit from off script protocol breach to Harry dig

As US President Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK continues, the Mirror takes a look at some of the royal bombshells that defined POTUS’s first day on British soil, including an off-script moment that raised a few eyebrows

Donald Trump’s security-flanked arrival at Windsor Castle marked the first day of his official state visit to the UK, and behind all the pomp and splendour, there were some shocking moments along the way.

From the moment the POTUS and First Lady Melania stepped onto the grounds of the sprawling royal estate, where they were warmly greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales, all eyes were on them as protests against the controversial visit erupted in Windsor and elsewhere.

For the presidential couple, however, such matters likely seemed far away as they spent the day lapping up the regal splendour, lunching with King Charles and Queen Camilla, before a magnificent state banquet was laid out at the historic St. George’s Hall, held in their honour.

Cheerful greetings were exchanged, with plenty of camera-ready smiles. But this all-important first day certainly didn’t go without a hitch, or without a few eyebrows being raised. Here, the Mirror takes a look at some of Trump’s biggest royal bombshells, as day two of his state visit rumbles on…

Kate’s subtle handbag trick

A subtle yet telling gesture by Kate caught the eye of a body language expert(Image: Ian Vogler / Daily Mirror)

The Prince and Princess of Wales were the first senior royals to greet the Trumps after they landed on the Windsor estate, and all eyes were on the future king and queen as they made friendly conversation with their American visitors. And one telling handbag trick caught the attention of body language expert Bruce Durham from Huddle Culture.

Speaking previously with the Mirror, Durham noted: “When they walk away from the helicopter, you see Kate notices the closeness between Donald and Melania, but then what occurs is that her brain notices this, and you’ll see there is a shift of her handbag in her hands.

“And what this is, is that she notices that and she feels uncomfortable enough and her brain says move closer to William, but because of that regimented royal protocol that’s been ingrained within her, all you get is a shift of the handbag, which indicates she wants to do it, but she regiments herself and recognises that spatial awareness.”

He added: “They do look jovial, but it is good when you get these different types of behavioural accpetances, where you’ve got the American president and his partner and Prince William on the other side and the different expectations of how people should behave.”

Palace wades in on royal protocol accusation

While Kate’s adherence to protocol may well be deeply ingrained, for President Trump, it’s a whole different language, and one supposed protocol breach didn’t escape the notice of eagle-eyed royal watchers.

Following a grand royal salute in the Windsor Castle quadrangle, Lt Col Storm Green, Captain of the Guard of Honour, invited President Trump to inspect the bespoke Guard of Honour, which was made up of Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards, No 7 Company Coldstream Guards, and F Company Scots Guards.

President Trump appeared interested in the military display while being escorted down the first two ranks of soldiers, with King Charles following a few steps behind, in accordance with tradition.

During POTUS’s last UK state visit, he faced a backlash after walking in front of the late Queen Elizabeth II while inspecting the troops, with royal sources at the time insisting he hadn’t done anything wrong.

History repeated itself yesterday when President Trump walked in front of Charles, which palace sources have clarified did not break tradition.

Trump left stunned by Kate

Princess Kate was the very image of regal sophistication as she greeted Trump and Melania yesterday, clad in a burgundy Emilia Wickstead dress and matching hat by Jane Taylor, accesorised with a feather brooch and, naturally, her signature bright smile.

The President appeared blown away by the famously stylish future queen, telling her, “You’re so beautiful” in their first conversation of the day.

Yesterday afternoon, Kensington Palace issued a statement revealing that William, Kate, and the Trumps had a “warm and friendly” meeting inside Windsor Castle. The palace has not released the details of what exactly the two couples discussed.

Melania’s belt row

Melania arrived at yesterday evening’s glittering banquet wearing a distinctive and cheerful dress, but fashion watchers looking on were a bit baffled by the colour palette, and couldn’t work out whether her ‘optical illusion’ belt was pink or purple.

Her yellow dress, too, prompted a bit of a debate, as it appeared bright and bold in some pics, and muted and understated in others. So what’s the truth?

It’s understood that flash photography or pre-publication Photoshop manipulation is likely behind the confusion, with New York-based personal stylist Liz Teich telling the Mail Online: “Photographers always play with saturation, curves and contrast in their photos, and I do believe that her dress was tweaked to look a bit bolder than it actually is, judging by the saturation of all of the other colors in the image.”

Remarking upon the choice of yellow, the colour of optimism, Teich suggested: “Perhaps she was seeking something cheerful for this visit, especially as her husband’s mother is from Scotland, where the Royal Family regularly visits, as well as to stand up against the protesters of their visit.”

Charles reacts to Trump going off script

During the opulent state banquet at Windsor Castle, Trump turned political in an off-script remark made to Charles, something which is seen as going against protocol during such occasions, especially when in the presence of the monarch.

Standing between Charles and Kate, POTUS delivered his speech with his script in hand, and at one point seemingly appeared to rail against his presidential predecessor, Joe Biden. Turning to the King in a direct address, President Trump declared: “We are, as a country, as you know, doing unbelievably well.”

He continued: “We had a very…sick country one year ago, and today I believe we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world. In fact, nobody’s even questioning it…but we owe so much of that to you.”

After the speech wrapped up and the national anthem sounded out, guests took their seats to begin the feast. It was then that the King and the President were immediately in conversation.

Speaking with the Mirror, Lip reader Jeremy Freeman revealed that, while he couldn’t catch everything that was said, he did pick up on one powerful two-word comment from Charles that potentially showed his feelings about what was said. According to Jeremy, Charles simply said: “Thank you.”

Akward Harry snub

During his speech, President Trump also appeared to take a swipe at King Charles’ youngest son, Prince Harry, in what many have viewed as a snub.

Heaping praise on heir to the throne Prince William, President Trump told his fellow dinner guests: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales, really amazing, we’ve gotten to know you, and I think you’ll be an unbelievable success in the future.”

There was no mention here of Prince Harry, who stepped down from his duties as a senior working royal back in 2020. At another point in his speech, President Trump asserted that King Charles had helped wounded veterans “like nobody else”.

Given that former soldier Harry’s Invictus Games initiative was set up with the direct aim of helping injured servicemen, this felt like a very pointed dig indeed.

Trump ‘drops alpha status’ after Kate’s move

When addressing Kate, Trump appeared ‘subservient’(Image: PA)

The Princess of Wales reduced Donald Trump to a hardly ever-seen position after dazzling at the state banquet, according to an expert.

During the lavish event, Kate was hailed yet again as “so radiant and so healthy and so beautiful” by the US leader as he gave a speech to guests in St George’s Hall.

Kate wore a couture creation by British designer Phillipa Lepley, with a striking full-length, champagne gold hand-embroidered Chantilly lace evening coat featuring a regal-looking high collar over a silk crepe gown.

Photos captured the princess flashing a smile at the president as they sat next to each other for the glitzy night. And according to body language expert Bruce Durham from Huddle Culture, Kate almost reduced Trump into a subservient position.

He explained to the Mirror: “What we hardly ever see is Donald Trump in a subservient position. If you look at Kate, she looks regal, if you look at her positioning, she is very upright and very much the alpha.

“What we see with Donald Trump here is Trump adopting a tortoise position. Imagine when a tortoise is scared, they retract their neck, and this is very much the same for human beings.

“If you look at Trump, he is almost leaning in with the tortoise effect; there is a raise of the shoulders. We know for sure that it is a subservient position.

“This is coupled with the fact of how regal she looks, how straight she looks – and looking at Donald Trump like a childish, impish-type comment has been made.

“This is important because when is Donald Trump never the alpha? So there is something going on here in that either Kate has an effect on him, or there is a narrative in his head which results in him raising his shoulders, retracting his head, with Kate the alpha, Donald the beta.”

Kate beamed as she stood and raised her glass to toast the president after he addressed the 160 guests in St George’s Hall. Before the state dinner, Kate and William posed for a photo taken by one of their favoured photographers, Matt Porteous.

The pair were shown standing side by side in their banquet finery, with the portrait posted on Kensington Palace’s social media, with the words “Ready for The State Banquet” followed by American and UK flag motifs.

Kate’s delicate coat featured hand-embroidered roses with couched gold cording, accented with French knots and satin-stitched blooms, demonstrating her commitment to supporting British craftsmanship and creativity.

Her earrings belonged to the late Queen and the princess opted for her go-to tiara the Lover’s Knot Tiara and wore her hair down and styled in waves.

‘I toasted silver by singing Gold in karaoke bar’

Jake Wightman, a British Olympic 1500m silver medalist, “butchered songs” into the morning in a karaoke bar as he “butchered songs” into the early hours of the morning.

The 31-year-old suffered a terrible defeat in Tokyo by Portugal’s Isaac Nader, who was on the verge of clinching his second World Championship.

Wightman’s decision to sack his father Geoff as his coach after missing the 2024 Olympics due to injury, including omitting gold by two hundredths of a second, is seen as vindication for the bold moves he made.

The Scotsman told BBC Sport, “We went to a karaoke bar to celebrate in true Japanese style.”

We finished quite late because we raced very late and then had anti-doping, so I don’t believe we did until late in the evening.

This was exactly like that on steroids when I’ve been to karaoke bars in the UK. Not just microphones, either. A full band set was present. There were piano, bass, guitar, and drums.

“We were butchering songs at the rate of 12.” More of a group sing-song than solos, it was. The first one, by Spandau Ballet, was a nice gesture despite the fact that I received silver.

Wightman, who won the 2022 world championship, was unable to compete in the 2023 World Championships and UK Championships, respectively, due to a hamstring injury to his back and calf issues that prevented him from competing at the same time last year.

Wightman’s final blow came from the disappointment in Paris, and it was the “last roll of the dice” that he rolled.

Within a week of the Olympics, he continued, “I literally believed that my body was telling me that I had given everything I could to do.”

So I moved my fiancee and myself from London to Manchester, which was a big deal because our friend group was located there for the duration of my life.

“And then in February, I made the decision to leave my father as my coach, which is a much bigger deal because he has been my coach since I was 15 years old.

They were choices I hoped I wouldn’t regret, and luckily they turned out to be true. Making those difficult choices was the outcome I hoped for.

He continues to play my father, even though he is no longer my coach.

Wightman claimed his fiancee had purchased a charm from a cat shrine to bring him good fortune, but they later realized it might not be true.

My fiancee revealed that he had a tiny, “good luck cat” thing that he had brought me back.

However, it turns out that if you don’t return the larger cat to the shrine, you’re in for bad luck.

It was then taken back on Wednesday morning! So it ended up working, which should hopefully result in some uninjured years for me. “Nader’s girlfriend must have given him two wonderful cats,” he said.

Wightman won the 1500m final with a calf problem, while Josh Kerr, who was defending champion, slipped past the finish line in last place.

Wightman lamented Kerr’s injury, saying that there would have been “two of us on that podium,” which would have been “a very likely outcome.”

And when asked if any injuries from the 20-minute bus ride between the athletes’ warm-up and the stadium could result from this, he replied, “They could. In the bus, you can stretch your legs out, but it’s not ideal.

Jude Law’s one condition for The Holiday sequel after TV series announcement

Due Law has admitted he was unaware of the project and has no intentions to reprise his role as Graham in the upcoming TV series based on The Holiday.

Jude Law would only consider returning to his role in The Holiday if director Nancy Meyers gets involved. Just like Meyers, the 52 year old star had no clue about a fresh Apple TV+ limited series based on the 2006 romantic comedy Christmas favourite, and confesses he has zero intentions of coming back as Graham.

He revealed to Craig Melvin on the Today Show that he had heard of it. I have no knowledge of it. Nothing, besides that I don’t believe I’m a part of it. I’m not sure.

Have you heard about this, Nancy wrote to me, “I believe she asked me.” Literally. “

Law is unsure whether or not his character will be a part of the series. When asked about potential reprising the role, he replied, “Nancy Meyers would have to be involved.” She performed the magic that brought everything together.

Rob Delaney and Krissie Ducker will produce the upcoming series. For the moment, the cache information is kept secret.

Meyers insisted she was kept in the dark about the series, posting on her Instagram Stories: “News to me. Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw.”

The beloved movie follows two broken-hearted women, Iris [Kate Winslet] and Amanda [Cameron Diaz] who live apart before finding love with Graham and Miles [Jack Black], respectively.

Meyers has previously refrained from making up any speculation about sequels, and she recently admitted she had no idea when the movie would become a cherished Christmas classic. On the Hollywood Gold podcast, the director admitted, “I never thought it would be a movie you watched over the holidays.” I didn’t consider it that way.

“I just wanted to tell these people’s stories,” I said. Because that can be lonely, I put it on Christmas. They all have damage, as I pointed out to myself last night as I watched.

Jude Law in Black Rabbit

A new Netflix crime thriller that just came out stars Jude right now. It takes place amid the underworld of New York.

In Black Rabbit, the British actor is a co-star. Jason Bateman, who is well-known for his roles in Ozark and Arrested Development, is another actor in the production.

The protagonist of the story follows the hottest restaurant in New York, which allows his troubled brother to leave the family business. He opens the door to both old wounds and new dangers that threaten to destroy everything they’ve built during this period.

The Black Rabbit production was shot on location in New York, according to Netflix Junkies. Instead of using footage that was exclusively produced on a sound stage, it claims it gives the show a much more grounded feel.

Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the streets around Coney Island are among the places of interest. At one point, Bateman was pictured in full costume, which prompted many questions because he appeared nearly unrecognizable in previous roles.

South Korean prosecutors seek arrest of ‘Moonies’ leader in bribery probe

In response to allegations of bribery against a former first lady, South Korean prosecutor’s request for an arrest warrant for Han Hak-ja, the Unification Church’s leader.

The request was made on Thursday, one day after Kim Keon-hee and Kweon Seong-dong were questioned about her alleged involvement in the bribing.

The accusations come as a result of a search for Kim’s and her husband, former president Yoon Suk-yeol, who was ordered to resign from power last year after enforcing martial law.

According to prosecutor Park Sang-jin, “We have requested an arrest warrant for Han today.” “She is facing charges of embezzlement, conspiracy to defraud, and incitement to destroy evidence,” she says.

We sought the warrant because we thought the risk of Han tampering with the evidence was very high.

The Unification Church criticized Han’s detention, insisting that she doesn’t pose a flight risk or threaten to destroy evidence, and that she has cooperated despite her health issues.

During his 91st birthday party in 2011, the Reverend Moon Sun-myung, the church’s founder, and his family savor a toast (File: Reuters).

The Unification Church, which was established in 1954 by Han’s late husband, has long drawn controversy and criticism.

Fans are referred to disparagingly as “Moonies” because they still have a cult-like culture. The church organizes mass weddings in accordance with Moon’s role as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

The church’s activities range from food distribution to media and tourism. Han assumed leadership after Moon passed away in 2012.

In order to win Kim over, Han is suspected of ordering the delivery of expensive presents, including a handbag and a diamond necklace, in 2022 in order to win her husband, who was elected president that year.

Kim was detained and charged with bribery and stock market manipulation last month. The allegations are refuted by her attorneys. Her husband, who is also in custody, is facing a trial for his brief declaration of martial law in December.

Before being overturned by opposition lawmakers, Yoon’s declaration of martial law temporarily suspended civilian rule.

In April, Yoon was impeached and fired from office as a result of the attempt.

Han is also accused of paying Kim Jong-un 100,000,000 won ($72, 000) in bribes.

Kweon was subject to an arrest warrant in Seoul on Tuesday because there was a chance that he might tamper with evidence.

Han, who was detained for almost ten hours on Wednesday, disputed her claims that she was responsible for the alleged bribes and blamed a former church official who has since been detained.

The Vertuo Pop is another affordable option at Nespresso, which comes in a variety of colors, including candy pink and aqua mint.

with a remarkable 4 With a 5 star rating and over 2,800 reviews, it’s obvious that the Versuni coffee maker packs a punch. One user praised the Versuni machine, saying, “I switched out a Nespresso Vertuo for this machine and honestly, I think this is miles better.

It heats up quickly, is compact on the counter, and consistently delivers good coffee. I use both the Ristretto, Espresso, and Lungo sizes, and the original L’OR ones are still the best tasting of all the capsule brands I’ve tried.

Instead of the slightly “flat” results I used to get from the Vertuo, they give a rich crema and a proper flavor. If you order a few drinks in a row from the water tank, you can fill it up, but that’s a small price difference compared to the quality.

One user who has used various coffee machines and said, “This beats them all, but it’s quick and simple.” Quick, easy, and there is no grinding when using a button, which is so quick and easy. “

Some people expressed disappointment with the handle and capsule holder, while others expressed their dissatisfaction with the machine. The handle function when inserting the coffee pod has been a major issue for me and has been with this machine for more than 12 months. Sometimes the handle lever on my machine gets stuck, and the handle is flimsy.

When you pull the lever down, the pod might become jammed, but you must then allow the pod to pass through. Others felt it to be a little too “noisy.”

Despite that, some L’OR fans have called it a “total game changer,” with one user citing: “The Versuni PHILIPS L’OR Barista Sublime Capsule Coffee Machine has completely elevated my coffee routine! The coffee it brews is the real magic, though, and it is sleek and compact and fits perfectly on my kitchen counter.
