Kano Gov Sacks Two Aides Over Drug Baron Bail, Palliative Scandal

The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has laid off two senior aides over their roles in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron and the diversion of palliative grains.

The action, announced in a statement by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim on Saturday, followed damning findings from investigative committees that probed the separate cases.

Sharada Indicted Over Drug Baron Bail

Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, was shown the door after a Special Investigative Committee found him to be the “mastermind” behind securing bail for Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu, a suspected dangerous drug baron.

“The committee confirmed Sharada’s culpability through his own testimony, which established his direct involvement in the bail process,” the SSG revealed.

Roba Dismissed Over Palliative Diversion

In a separate case, Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant in the Cabinet Office, was dismissed for allegedly rebagging palliative grains in 2024 at a Sharada warehouse.

“Roba has been arraigned in court and faces charges of theft and criminal conspiracy for diverting public assets,” Ibrahim said, adding that both men must return government property by Monday, August 11, 2025, and desist from parading themselves as public officials.

One Aide Cleared

However, the Governor exonerated Hon. Musa Ado Tsamiya, Special Adviser on Drainages, after an investigative committee cleared him of all allegations.

Governor Yusuf warned all appointees that the administration’s fight against corruption was not negotiable.

“Our commitment to discipline, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption is unwavering. Public officials must uphold the highest standards of integrity both in their official duties and private lives,” he said.

The statement also warned members of the public against dealing with the sacked aides on any matter concerning the state government.

Wembley launch investigation into Oasis scam as ‘200 ticketless fans snuck into gig’

Oasis stars Noel and Liam Gallagher performed at Wembley Stadium in London for five dates in August and it’s been claimed hundreds of ticketless fans snuck in

Wembley Stadium have announced they are launching an investigation into claims fans snuck into the recent Oasis concerts without a ticket.

It has been claimed around 200 ticketless fans were able to sneak into the venue via a disabled entrance as Liam and Noel Gallagher took to the stage at Wembley. A large group were reportedly able to use copies of the same ticket before gaining entry and being handed VIP wristbands to watch the group in their reunion tour.

It has been alleged two unnamed women were behind the reported scam and approached fans via Facebook groups for buying and selling tickets to Oasis shows. It comes after Paul Weller reveals the unusual reason he refuses to watch Oasis concerts.

It was claimed punters who were contacted via social media were told to pay a £10 deposit before being invited into a WhatsApp group, where fans were given a meeting point.

A fan has claimed: “Two women came and met us. They drew a shape on our hands and then a ticket was put into the WhatsApp group which we were to use. One of the women told me they were in a hurry because they had ‘ten groups of 20 people’ to get into the stadium.

“They told us all to go to entrance M and head to the disabled entrance,” they told The Sun.

It’s been claimed their stamped hands were shown to a person on the door and they “scanned the copied tickets” before the fans were handed a golden circle wristband each and given “zero security searches” and “walked straight in” to the gig.

Meanwhile, fans were supposed to transfer money into one of the women’s Monzo accounts but many didn’t do so, reports claim.

A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium has said: “Entering Wembley stadium without a ticket is a serious offence and we are investigating these allegations. If they are substantiated, we will refer our evidence to the police.”

It comes after Oasis fan Lee Claydon tragically fell to his death after slipping on spilled beer at the sell-out gig in Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.

Lee Claydon, 45, is believed to have fallen from the arena’s upper tier just as the sell-out gig wrapped on Saturday night. The dad, from Bournemouth, was described as a “lifelong” fan of the Gallagher brothers and was at the gig alongside his brother Aaron, and his niece and nephew. Lee tragically died at the scene despite the best efforts of medics who desperately tried to save his life.

After the news emerged, Oasis said they were “shocked and saddened” to hear of the death during their sell-out Wembley show this weekend. The band said in a statement: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”

A spokesperson for Wembley Stadium said: “Wembley Stadium operates to a very high health and safety standard, fully meeting legal requirements for the safety of spectators and staff, and is certified to and compliant with the ISO 45001 standard.

“We are regularly inspected by certifying authorities both on an event day and throughout the year, and we regularly review and test our plans to ensure adherence to the conditions set within the stadium’s general safety certificate.

“We work very closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders – including event owners, local authorities, the Sports Ground Safety Authority and the police – to deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service for everyone attending or working in the venue.”

India says six Pakistani aircraft shot down during May conflict

India shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and one other military aircraft during fighting in May, India’s air force chief says, the first such statement from the country since the deadly conflict with its neighbour.

Air force chief Amar Preet Singh made the announcement on Saturday, weeks after India’s military acknowledged that an unspecified number of its own jets were also shot down by Pakistan during their heaviest fighting in decades. It involved fighter planes and cruise missiles and killed dozens of people.

The conflict was triggered after armed men killed 26 tourists in India-administered Kashmir’s Pahalgam town on April 22.

Speaking at a military lecture in the southern city of Bengaluru on Saturday, Singh said India’s S-400 air defence systems took down most of the Pakistani aircraft.

“We have at least five fighters confirmed killed and one large aircraft,” he said, adding that the large aircraft, which could have been a surveillance plane, was shot down at a distance of 300km (186 miles).

“This is actually the largest ever recorded surface-to-air kill that we can talk about. Our air defence systems have done a wonderful job,” he was quoted as saying by several Indian media outlets.

Air Chief Marshal Staff Singh did not mention the type of fighter jets that were downed but said air strikes also hit an additional surveillance plane and “a few F-16” fighters that were parked in hangars at two airbases in southeastern Pakistan.

Half of the F-16 hangar at the Shahbaz Jacobabad airbase in Sindh province was destroyed, he said.

Islamabad, whose air force primarily operates Chinese-made jets and US F-16s, has previously denied that India downed any Pakistani aircraft during the May 7-10 fighting between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

There was no immediate reaction to Singh’s statements from Pakistan.

During their conflict, Pakistan said it downed six Indian military jets, including at least three Rafale fighters – a claim one Indian military official described as “absolutely incorrect”.

Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir in full but administer only parts of the Muslim-majority Himalayan territory, which has been a continuing source of tension between them.

Armed groups in the India-administered portion of Kashmir have been fighting New Delhi’s rule since 1989.

India accuses Pakistan of backing some armed groups, but Islamabad says it provides only diplomatic support to the Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination.

Since India and Pakistan declared a ceasefire in May, intermittent fighting has continued in the area between Indian troops and fighters.

On Saturday, Indian officials said two Indian soldiers and a suspected fighter were reported killed late on Friday in the India-administered Kashmir district of Kulgam.

Wedding guests watch ‘screaming match’ after bride slams guest’s dress

One bride’s special day took a turn for the worse when she ended up in an argument over a guest’s dress

No bride wants to feel upstaged on her wedding day. Yet, that’s exactly how one newlywed felt after seeing her cousin’s wedding day outfit. According to the wedding guest, the bride confronted her and they ended up in a ‘screaming match’.

Despite this, people are siding with the cousin after seeing the dress she wore to the occasion, which she revealed when she shared what happened in a Reddit post. Taking to social media, the cousin claimed: “I wore a sky blue cocktail dress to the wedding because it was a beach wedding so I thought it would be nice to wear that, but my cousin got mad.

“She accused me of trying to one up her in her own wedding and trying to steal the attention. My aunt told her to calm down and said that it’s just a dress and it’s not like I’m wearing a white dress to the wedding. I’m not even wearing a necklace, earrings and heels either since my cousin would think I’m trying to one up her.”

Unfortunately, the family could not resolve the conflict. “It became a screaming match and my aunty, uncle and my cousin’s partner had to pull her away because she wouldn’t stop yelling at me. I went home to avoid drama.”

She added: “My parents and siblings asked why I wasn’t there and I told them what happened. They were mostly on my side but they didn’t want to get involved and I can’t blame them.”

However, she did want to know if anyone else thought she was in the wrong for wearing a ‘sky blue dress’ and took to Imgur to share a photo of the midi dress, which had an A-line silhouette and thin shoulder straps. Reacting to the post, commenters struggled to see the issue, as many thought the dress looked nothing like a wedding gown.

Someone replied: “I can’t imagine what other dress would be more perfect or appropriate to wear. Like it’s a very decent semi-modest dress with the longer length, cute, blue like the ocean.”

Another response said: “That dress is literally a basic beach wedding guest dress. If that was enough to set her off, she was looking for a reason to be mad. You didn’t wear white, didn’t overdress, didn’t show up in heels and diamonds.

A different commenter agreed: “If that’s the dress, I can’t see a single thing wrong with it. It’s so obviously not white and it probably was not even part of the bridal party’s colors.

“I see no harm. It was perfectly appropriate for a beach wedding,” while a reader added: “The bride was worried that a pale blue dress would photograph as white. It happens.

Thai soldiers injured by landmine near Cambodia amid fragile truce

Three Thai soldiers have been injured by a landmine while patrolling the border with Cambodia, according to the army, days after the two neighbours agreed to a detailed ceasefire following a violent five-day conflict last month.

One soldier lost a foot and two others were injured after one of them stepped on a landmine as they patrolled an area between Thailand’s Sisaket and Cambodia’s Preah Vihear provinces on Saturday morning, the Royal Thai Armed Forces said.

One soldier suffered a severe leg injury, another was wounded in the back and arm, and the third had extreme pressure damage to the ear, it said.

There was no immediate comment from Cambodia’s defence ministry.

It is the third incident in a few weeks in which Thai soldiers have been injured by mines while patrolling along the border.

Two previous similar incidents led to the downgrading of diplomatic relations and triggered five days of fighting.

The Southeast Asian neighbours were engaged in deadly border clashes from July 24-28, in the worst fighting between the two in more than a decade.

The exchanges of artillery fire, infantry battles and jet fighter sorties killed at least 43 people.

The clashes halted with a ceasefire on July 28 after United States President Donald Trump warned both sides that he would not conclude trade deals with them if fighting continued.

A meeting of defence officials in Kuala Lumpur ended on Thursday with a deal to extend the ceasefire, and the two sides also agreed to allow observers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to inspect disputed border areas to ensure hostilities do not resume.
