Jennifer Aniston’s 29p superfood lunchtime ‘secret’ to keeping youthful glow

There’s one ingredient that goes into the star’s salads that boosts the health benefits

Jennifer Aniston, famed for her role as Rachel Green on the sitcom Friends, does a lot to maintain her healthy lifestyle, with the right diet being crucial. The 56-year-old star is said to opt for salad often when she is on the go or between filming.

While most of us picture a heaping bowl of lettuce when we think of salads, the Hollywood star has a secret ingredient up her sleeve. It’s this something extra that she tosses into her salads that might be unlocking a lot of benefits.

Quinoa, a staple of the Mediterranean diet, is an excellent source of plant-based protein. It’s praised by scientists as a complete protein because it boasts all nine essential amino acids.

These edible seeds are gluten-free, fibre-rich and brimming with protein, vitamins, and minerals. This grain offers a wealth of health benefits, especially for those following a vegetarian or vegan diet, according to BBC Good Food.

One reason quinoa should be on the shopping list of anyone aiming to lose or maintain weight is its high protein content. The protein helps curb the production of hormones that stimulate hunger, making it easier to resist the temptation of snacking, reports the Daily Record.

The quinoa salad that went viral is a vegetarian dish that includes:

  • Cooked quinoa
  • Chickpeas
  • Pistachios
  • Feta cheese
  • Fresh mint and parsley
  • A simple lemon vinaigrette

Research suggests that quinoa’s fibre content (around 2.8g per 100g when cooked) helps with weight management, digestion, and gut health. It’s also packed with vitamins A and B2, which are beneficial for the skin, eyes, and nervous system, potentially reducing fine lines and promoting a youthful glow.

Quinoa, rich in riboflavin, can help boost skin elasticity and is beneficial for those struggling with acne. Its low glycemic index means it doesn’t cause drastic blood sugar spikes, making it a safe choice for diabetics.

This superfood is a powerhouse of iron, helping in the battle against iron-deficiency anaemia. It’s also rich in antioxidants that support heart health and protect various organs.

Quinoa also contains a reasonable amount of omega-3 fatty acids, beneficial for heart health. And, it offers a range of nutrients, including folate, manganese, thiamine, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium.

Though it may be a bit pricier than other grains, you can easily find it in the supermarket, among other grains and rice options. Asda offers a 300g pack of quinoa for £2.97, which works out to about 29p per 30g uncooked serving.

Huge Brit model and TV star set to sign big-money deal for I’m A Celeb

The 25th series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is set to hit out screens next month with plenty of famous faces taking part

A model and radio host is reportedly set for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! years after insisting she would never sign up for the show.

Former glamour model Kelly Brook has reportedly been wooed with a big-money ITV deal to take part in the 25th series of the iconic show. Yet, in 2018 Kelly insisted she would never take part in the series. At the time she said: “I can just think of a million things I’d rather do. I’d rather go and work in my local pub.

“I don’t think I could, I really don’t, because I hate confined spaces. I don’t want to eat eyeballs or sheep testicles and all the things they have to eat on there. Even if I had a huge tax bill and I had to pay it really urgently, I still wouldn’t do it.” She added: “It’s kind of like the beginning of the end in my opinion!”

But it seems her attitude may have changed as a source told The Sun on Sunday: “Show bosses have been after Kelly as a campmate for years and think she could possibly be their sexiest contestant ever. She’s glamorous, witty and a familiar face to ITV audiences, having appeared as a panellist for Loose Women and other shows. She’s guaranteed to make perfect TV viewing.”

The insider added of the Heart FM DJ: “Many viewers will be excited to see her strip off for the famous jungle waterfall show too.”

Kelly Brook started her modelling career at the tender age of 16 and quickly became a favourite in lads’ mags such as GQ, Loaded and FHM. She shot to fame aged 18, enjoying a hugely successful modelling career, and was crowned Sexiest Woman in the World in 2005.

She quickly became a lads’ mag pin up in her 20s and her fame took her all the way to Hollywood. Now 46, Kelly presents a show on Heart Radio and has re-established herself as a broadcaster.

These days Kelly is best known for being on Drivetime radio on Heart FM with Jason King and as a pannelist on Loose Women. Last year she and Judo champion husband Jeremy did take part in BBC series Race Across the World and she says it gave her the chance to show the world herself behind the celebrity persona.

Other recognisable faces are rumoured to be taking on the jungle such as Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley and Shona McGarty who quit her role on EastEnders this year.

LBC broadcaster Nick Ferrari is also among the rumoured names. However, ITV are yet to confirm a full list of while celebrities will be on the latest series.

A spokesman for ITV said: “We do not comment on speculation about I’m A Celebrity contestants.”

Seychelles’s Patrick Herminie wins presidential run-off election

Seychelles’s opposition leader, Patrick Herminie, has won the country’s presidential race, defeating incumbent leader Wavel Ramkalawan in a run-off vote, according to the electoral commission.

Herminie won 52.7 percent of the vote, while Ramkalawan took 47.3 percent, official results announced early on Sunday showed.

In his victory speech, Herminie pledged to lower the cost of living, revive public services and unite the island nation.

“The people have spoken,” the 62-year-old said at the headquarters of the electoral commission.

“I am deeply humbled for the trust that the people have placed in me. I will be the president of all Seychellois, and I will end divisions by ceasing preferences, and giving everyone the opportunity to thrive,” he said.

Herminie’s victory gives his United Seychelles party full control of the government after it also reclaimed a majority in parliament during the first round of the general election last month.

The win is also a complete turnaround for Herminie, who in 2023 was arrested on charges of witchcraft that were later dropped. He previously served as speaker of the country’s parliament from 2007 to 2016.

Ramkalawan, who attended the electoral commission’s announcement of the results, congratulated Herminie, who becomes Seychelles’s sixth president.

“I leave with a legacy that makes many presidents blush… I hope President Herminie continues to maintain such a level,” he said.

Images published by the Seychelles Nation newspaper showed the two leaders shaking hands after the announcement.

Outside the electoral commission headquarters, thousands of Herminie’s supporters erupted in cheers and waved the country’s flag and party banners as they greeted him following his proclamation as the winner, according to videos on social media.

The race between the two main contenders was decided in a run-off after there was no outright winner in the presidential vote two weeks ago. Early voting began on Thursday, but most people in the island nation voted on Saturday.

Herminie and Ramkalawan ran spirited campaigns trying to address key issues for voters, including environmental damage and a crisis of drug addiction in a country long seen as a tourist haven.

Ramkalawan campaigned for re-election on his management of Seychelles’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and expansion of social protections.

But voters opted for Herminie, who accused Ramkalawan of presiding over a proliferation of corruption, and promised to cancel a hotel project permitted by his government that environmentalists say threatens a UNESCO-listed coral atoll.

Herminie has also pledged to lower the retirement age from 65 to 63 and implement recommendations from a truth and reconciliation commission that examined human rights abuses related to a 1977 coup and its aftermath.

A physician by training, he previously headed the government’s anti-drug agency, and has promised to tackle the country’s sky-high heroin addiction, blamed in part on the fact that the islands sit on a drug route between Africa and Asia.

The country’s Agency for Prevention of Drug Abuse and Rehabilitation says that 5,000 to 6,000 people use heroin out of a population of about 120,000. Other estimates put the figure as high as 10,000.

Seychelles, a nation of 115 islands, is Africa’s wealthiest country per capita.
