Graham Potter, the ex-West Ham manager, is reportedly considering appointing Sweden’s next head coach.

The 50-year-old earlier this week expressed his country’s interest in the position, and BBC Sport is aware that Potter’s acceptance of the position is in imminent flux.

Following a subpar start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, Sweden are currently bottom of Group B with just one point from four games, with Sweden firing Jon Dahl Tomasson on Tuesday.

The Englishman helped them reach the top division of Swedish football after leading them from the fourth tier to the top division and won the Swedish Cup in 2017.

Before joining Chelsea in 2022, Potter held the positions of manager at Stamford Bridge for seven months before being fired from that position.

After losing to Kosovo 1-0 in the World Cup qualifier on Monday, former Denmark striker and Blackburn Rovers manager Tomasson was fired from his Sweden post.

The Swedes lost to Switzerland and Kosovo in their opening three group games despite a stellar forward line that included Liverpool’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Fourth-tier Salford sign ex-Premier League striker Borini

Fabio Borini, a former Sunderland and former Liverpool striker, has signed for League Two Salford City until January.

The 34-year-old has been training with Salford for the past month after leaving Sampdoria in his native Italy last summer.

Borini told the club website, “I came in to train to keep myself hydrated during this transition between contracts and Salford. The gaffer (Karl Robinson) and Alex Bruce were kind enough to allow me to use the facilities and train here.”

He continued, “I’ve never played League Two football, so I need to learn the fundamentals of this league from my team-mates.” I’m also open to sharing my experiences with other teams so they can use me as an open book for their use, study, or assistance.

I’m accepting it because I needed the real football, something that warms my heart to football, not because of anything else, and I chose to embrace it.

Borini made his Premier League debut for Chelsea in 2009, and he also assisted Swansea in earning a loan deal to the English Premier League in 2011. He also has played for AC Milan and Roma, two other Italian clubs.
