Inter Miami relinquish option to speak to De Bruyne

Getty Images

Inter Miami have relinquished their option to hold talks with departing Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne – leaving Chicago Fire in pole position to sign him should he decide to move to Major League Soccer.

Miami had the 33-year-old on their ‘ discovery list’, meaning they were the only MLS team able to negotiate with him in the United States.

They had until mid-July to decide whether to hold talks but sources have told BBC Sport they will not pursue his signing meaning De Bruyne will not link up with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.

Chicago now have the first option to speak to De Bruyne, who announced in April he would be leaving City when his current deal expires at the end of the season.

The Belgian later said he was surprised not to be offered a new contract by the club.

Piers Morgan slams ‘snivelling little coward’ Kanye West in furious rant

Kanye West sat down with Piers Morgan for a chat on his Piers Morgan Uncensored channel, but things quickly went south and the rapper quickly exited the interview

Kanye West’s latest appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored was short lived as the controversial rapper sensationally stormed off the chat.

Piers’ upload was only 17 minutes long, but the presenter labelled him a “coward” as he walked out on the interview. In the latest chat, Piers described how “only a few minutes in, things turn sour…” before claiming it was a “farce”.

Ye almost immediately hit out at Piers after the presenter incorrectly commented on how may followers he has on Twitter/X.

The irritated rapper, who has four children by Kim Kardashian, told Piers: “Your information is correct…I’m a gift, bro.

“I mean, why do all you people in media act like you haven’t played my songs at your weddings or graduations or at funerals, and when your child was born, you know, you take somebody that’s living like a [John] Lennon, a Michael Jackson, and you just take all this time to, like that nuance right there, it’s idiotic.

“It just shows the hate that you put out for people that put love. There’s so much love in the art I put out.”

A confused Piers asked what he was talking about, before Ye told him: “We can circle back when you can count.”

After that, Ye left the chat abruptly just two minutes in. Piers tried to get answers from Ye’s pal Sneako, before he too exited. Piers told him: “Tell him from me he’s a snivelling, little coward, and he’s an antisemite and a Hitler worshipper. That’s what I would have asked him if he’d had the balls to sit there and take the questions.”

Proceedings began with the rapper legally known as Ye taking umbrage at Piers using the surname ‘West’ in his opening scene-setting intro, correcting the award-winning broadcaster – who clearly addressed him as ‘Ye’ in his first question.

Ye said: “I don’t use the term West, you know, the whole drop the slave name idea?”

The dropped interview comes after the former Good Morning Britain host took to Instagram to tease the Donda star’s appearance earlier in the day. He uploaded an image of an unhappy-looking Kanye to his social media platofrm and wrote: “UPDATE: I interviewed Kanye West again today.

“As I expected, given what I’ve said about him recently, it didn’t last long or go well. This was him right before he stomped off like a big baby before I could ask him why he’s become a vile, Hitler-loving, Nazi-slathering, anti-Semitic prick. Drops on @piersmorganuncensored later… “

It’s not the first run-in Piers and that artist legally known as Ye have had over the years. In 2022, Ye sat down for a chat with Piers on TalkTV. At the time, the duo were involved in a heated discussion in front of the cameras.

As both stars refused to hold back, they both tried to get their points across in an interview which lasted over two hours. However, things seems to prove too much in one instance, with the Donda hitmaker walking out of the filming midway through.

Piers claimed at the time that Ye’s walk-out had left his team facing “quite a struggle to come and get him back”. The singer did eventually return, with Piers admitting he was glad the musician did come back.

Piers had labelled Ye racist, ‘horribly homophobic’ and ‘pro-Hitler’ in the previous chat.

Raducanu set-up ‘working well’ but jigsaw not complete

Getty Images

Britain’s Emma Raducanu believes her current coaching arrangement is working well but knows she will soon need to “figure another solution out”.

The 22-year-old still has a desire to develop a longer-term partnership with Mark Petchey, even if the pair were unable to agree a more exclusive arrangement.

But Jane O’Donoghue, a friend and former Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) national women’s coach who is alongside Petchey at this week’s Italian Open, is only on a sabbatical from her current full-time job in finance.

“It’s been working pretty well,” Raducanu told BBC Sport in Rome.

“Mark is doing his commentary work and around that he is going to help me as much as he can and hopefully the times align that he can be there with me in the matches.

“That’s why Jane is here for when he’s not able to make it to the session.

The aim is to find someone who can act in a support role to Petchey, who has significant broadcast commitments throughout the year.

“I just need to work on who that person is,” Raducanu added.

However, former Great Britain number one Dan Evans cast doubt on the feasibility of Raducanu’s arrangement with Petchey.

“It can’t last if she starts losing matches and Petchey is in the commentary box. That’s not going to work,” Evans, 34, told 5 Live Tennis.

“I think Emma will be looking for a new coach again pretty soon if she starts to lose some matches on the grass into the US swing. I’m not sure how that can last as it is.”

Petchey will be able to devote more time to Raducanu during the grass-court season, and the work they have been doing on the practice court is not purely targeted at clay courts.

Raducanu lost to Marta Kostyuk in the Madrid Open second round in April and says she does not “necessarily feel very comfortable” on the surface.

“I feel slightly better than I did in Madrid,” she said.

“I want to use this period of the clay season to try and work on certain things in my game that I think are going to help me bridge the gap to the next level.

“I want to take more balls on, I want to be more aggressive in certain points – I want to structure the points more on my terms.

“I know I may make more errors doing that, but I’m willing to go through that.”

Contaminated products an ongoing worry

Raducanu also addressed how “nervous” she feels about the risk of ingesting contaminated medicine, or even being deliberately targeted when eating in a restaurant.

Jannik Sinner returned to the ATP Tour this week after a three-month doping ban, having been inadvertently contaminated by a steroid cream his physiotherapist had applied to his own hands before treating the world number one.

Women’s world number two Iga Swiatek also served a one-month ban after testing positive after taking contaminated melatonin tablets.

“I don’t want to take anything even if the doctors are saying you should take this – just out of risk of contamination,” Raducanu added.

“Even if it’s not prohibited on the anti-doping list, you don’t know if it’s contaminated by another product.

“It can show a green tick, but if it’s contaminated you will still get screwed over.

“We could go to a restaurant [and someone could put something in our drink]. It’s really hard, especially if you are noticeable and the waiter recognises you.

Arsenal Determined ‘To Make Statement’ Against PSG In Champions League Semi-Final

Arsenal’s Declan Rice insisted Tuesday the Gunners are confident they can “deliver something special” by overturning a 1-0 first-leg deficit when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital in the return match of their Champions League semi-final tie.

“We’re here to win the game. We’re here to make a statement. We want to get to the final. So we need to be ready to go and do that,” Rice told reporters at the Parc des Princes on the eve of Wednesday’s showdown.

“We need to have big balls and we need to go out there on the biggest stage and show that we’re ready to play at this level.

“It’s going to be the biggest night in this club’s history if we can get to the final. So we’re fully ready to go.”

PSG hold the advantage coming into Wednesday’s match after Ousmane Dembele’s early goal gave them a narrow victory at the Emirates Stadium a week ago.

However, both Rice and Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said they believed they could get the better of a side who have eliminated Premier League opposition in each of the last two rounds, knocking out Liverpool in the last 16 and Aston Villa in the quarter-finals.

“I think you need to have full belief,” Rice said.

“We certainly have that as a group. I think if we are the best versions of ourselves tomorrow night -– and we know we can be that –- there is no stopping us getting into that final.”

The England star said Arsenal could lean on the experience of facing reigning European champions Real Madrid in Spain in the last round, when Arteta’s team won 2-1 to progress 5-1 on aggregate.

“When we went to the Bernabeu the other week there were a lot of questions about whether we could rise to that occasion,” said Rice, who scored two wonderful free-kicks in the first leg of that tie.

“We obviously had a 3-0 lead but there was still so much talk about them coming back and playing at the Bernabeu and we had not experienced that before.

“But I think as a group we handled that amazingly well. We have proved that we can handle big situations and tomorrow night is another massive step for this team.”

Arsenal have to win on the night if they are to make it to Munich later this month for the Champions League final for the second time in the club’s history.

That means someone will need to step up and make themselves a hero, just as Rice did against Madrid in the last round.

“In that game against Real Madrid, obviously I was able to produce two free-kicks which were incredible, but tomorrow night is set up for someone else to maybe get that magic moment.

“Hopefully we can deliver something special.”

Arteta, who used to play for PSG, said his side did not deserve to lose in the first leg and called on them to rise to the occasion once again by securing the Gunners’ first appearance in the final of Europe’s elite club competition since 2006.

“We are a win away from being in the Champions League final, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, against a great opponent. It doesn’t get much better than that,” he said.

“We are here to make history.”

Arteta said Dutch defender Jurrien Timber’s fitness would be assessed on Tuesday evening before a decision would be taken on whether he could feature.

However, Riccardo Calafiori travelled with the squad to Paris and is fit — the Italian has not played since the last 16, second leg against PSV Eindhoven on March 12.

Earlier, PSG coach Luis Enrique declared first-leg match-winner Dembele fit to play despite coming off with a hamstring issue in London last week.

Team principal Oakes leaves Alpine after 10 months

Oliver Oakes, the head of the Alpine team, left the position less than a year after being hired.

Oakes resigned, according to a statement from Alpine on Tuesday, and the team “accepted his resignation with immediate effect.”

The team informed the team that Flavio Briatore would continue to serve as Oakes’ executive adviser and would now also perform the duties he had previously performed.

Oakes’ departure was not explained in any way. Oakes declined to comment when contacted, and the team stated no further comment would be made.

Oakes’ decision to leave was confirmed by a source, according to a source. Other team members claimed that it surprised them.

Oakes, who left his Hitech team in Alpine to work in the junior division, was widely perceived as having little leadership at the team, with Briatore, the former Renault team manager, acting as the real controlling force.

Luca de Meo, the head of Renault Group, orchestrated Briatore’s contentious return to F1 as team leader 15 years after he was found guilty of fixing the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Oakes’ departure comes just one day after it became known that Alpine were set to replace Australian Jack Doohan with Argentine ex-Whitney driver Franco Colapinto after only six races this year.

After Alpine, who are owned by Renault, removed their former team principal Bruno Famin and placed him elsewhere in the business, Oakes was appointed in July of last year.

And it continues a turbulent few years at the team, with senior management facing a stalemate amid Renault’s factory team’s run of disappointing outcomes.

Renault also made the decision to stop its F1 engine program, which had been in operation since 1977 with only a few brief rests, last year. Next season, Alpine will use Mercedes engines.

After replacing Otmar Szafnauer in July 2023, Famin assumed the position of team manager for less than a year. Only 17 months were spent on the American.

Laurent Rossi, the chief executive officer of Alpine, was also fired shortly before Szafnauer’s departure. He had only been employed by the business for two and a half years.

With a quarter of the current season over, Alpine finished sixth in the constructors’ championship last year.

Dame Joanna Lumley says she doesn’t have ‘much time left’ as she makes sad admission

The actress and presenter has been a fixture on television for more than ten years and will appear in Wednesday’s second season of the Netflix smash hit.

Dame Joanna Lumley is reflecting on her life now that she has turned 79.

Dame Joanna Lumley shared a poignant reflection as she turned 79, confessing that she feels her time may be running short. The beloved actress, whose career spans over 50 years, including roles as a Bond girl in the ’60s, a ’70s spy in The New Avengers, and the unforgettable Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous, is also set to appear in the eagerly awaited second season of Netflix’s hit show Wednesday.

Celebrating her 79th birthday on May 1, the esteemed star opened up about facing her own mortality during a chat with Vernon Kay on BBC Radio 2. “As you nearly the top of the hill, you suddenly think, ‘Gosh, there’s not all that much time left,'” she expressed.

As she considered getting older, Dame Lumley mentioned that she was “time coming soon.”

“I don’t want to have squandered a second of being on this beautiful planet, but my time must be coming quite soon.” I used to panic when I was younger, but as I grew older, I’ve started to live. You determine what matters as you get older. When I was older, I was always anticipating positive things to happen.

Lumley continued to share her wisdom on ageing : “When I was 18, I longed to be 30. When I was 30, I longed to be 50. We mustn’t be led into thinking getting old is bad. Growing old is good.”

In her conversation with Vernon, Dame Joanna also touched upon her personal health battles, particularly living with prosopagnosia, a condition that impairs the ability to recognize familiar faces, even those of close friends and family. She humorously remarked that her solution is to ‘kiss everybody’ since she can’t always discern who they are.

She confessed to a peculiar condition last week, saying: “I’ve got this weird thing with faces, I’ve got face blindness. It’s called Prosopagnosia.”

Dame Lumley is best known for her role in “Totally Fabulous.”

She rephrased her coping strategy as, “I have to know who people are, I have to know beforehand.” I always ask, “please tell me who will be there,” so that I can match the item’s name to that. Meeting people is not about meeting many people; it’s a completely different experience. It has followed me, and I have no idea what it is. I’d give it a shot. When I first glanced at someone, I would close my eyes and consider whether I could see their face in my head. And I was unable.

Joanna has previously admitted to smoking and smoking anywhere from one to forty cigarettes per day. She humorously claimed that smoking had made her physically fit, saying, “I am unbelievably fit,” and that smoking had prevented me from ever getting sick. These extraordinary procedures are what I have.

Before going to acting school as a teenager, Joanna was turned down by the drama department and subsequently became a model in London during the Swinging Sixties. Before appearing in the 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, she later took on more minor acting roles.

However, she only made her big-money debut in The New Avengers when she captured the role of Purdey.

And Joanna won’t be doing any acting until she can. She recently stated to viewers that “she’ll be there” as long as she can speak at the SANDS International Film Festival.

The only roles I could play in movies would be as a continuity or makeup girl, she said when I told my school I wanted to pursue acting. Women like me would have been sidelined at the age of 38, but now there are significant roles for people in their 70s and significant roles for those in their 50s.
