Jack Black reveals his ‘terror’ ahead of SNL hosting return after 20 years

Actor and musician Jack Black is set to host long-running stateside sketch show Saturday Night Live for the first time in 20 years, but admitted he is fearing the appearance

Jack Black is set to host Saturday Night Live

Jack Black has revealed his fear after being asked to host Saturday Night Live for the firs time in 20 years. The Minecraft actor returns to the iconic US sketch show for the April 5 edition, but has admitted it is taking its toll on him.

Jack, 55, takes on the hosting duties, while music will come from Elton John and Brandi Carlile. Despite the actor and musician being a veteran in front of the camera, he insists the opportunity is giving him “night terrors”.

Speaking at the London premiere of A Minecraft Movie on Sunday, Jack joked it felt “cray cray” to be joining the SNL team again.

He told Variety he is “having lots of nightmares and night terrors and also fond memories flooding back”. And when he was asked his thoughts on how the writer’s room on the show will go ahead of broadcast, he said: “You know what they’re thinking about right now?

” They are just all in a dead coma from last night’s show. Maybe some of them are thinking of some ideas, but I’m really thinking it’s one of those shows they put together in one week, that’s part of the excitement. “

It will mark the fourth time Jack will have hosted the long-running show. His last outing came in December 2005 when he used his stint to promote Peter Jackson’s King Kong movie.

Ahead of his latest release, Jack admitted there has been one movie he starred in which he regrets. He revealed he wasn’t “proud” of the production and would rather forget about it.

Confessing his inclusion on the 2001 film had him feeling like a” sell out”, Jack revealed he wishes he avoided it, despite it receiving plaudits at the time.

Shallow Hal saw the actor star alongside Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow. Jack played the role of Hal, a man who despite not having the perfect physique himself, was obsessive and picky about looks when trying to find a girlfriend. Hal is then hypnotised to only see inner beauty.

When he meets Gwyneth Paltrow’s character – which saw the actress don a fat suit for the role, Jack sees her as a slim, conventionally pretty woman. Her appearance is said to have mirrored her kind personality and loving nature. However, to the rest of the world, she’s seen as a plus-sized woman and treated poorly due to her size.

While the movie does have a positive message about looking at people’s inner beauty, many have criticised the film as being fatphobic, relying on humour based on Gwyneth’s character’s size. The character of Rose breaks chairs, empties swimming pools when she dives into them, and is seen eating massive amounts of food.

In 2006, Jack explained his reasons for taking on the part, but also expressed his regret in doing so. He worked with the Farrelly brothers for the film, who are known for creating comedy movies such as Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary.

Jack said:” I had an opportunity to work with some dudes I thought were really funny, but it didn’t turn out as I’d hoped. I wasn’t proud of it, and I got paid a lot of money, so, in retrospect, it feels like a sell-out. “His comments were echoed by Gwyneth, who previously called the movie a” disaster”.

In an interview with the Guardian, she revealed what it was like to wear the prosthetics for the role”. The first day I tried the fat suit on, I was in the Tribeca Grand, and I walked through the lobby, “she said.

” It was so sad. It was so disturbing. No one would make eye contact with me because I was obese. I felt humiliated. For some reason, the clothes they make for women that are overweight are horrible. I felt humiliated because people were really dismissive. “

Barca Restore Liga Lead In Girona Romp

Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace as Barcelona eased to a 4-1 victory over Girona to move three points clear at the top of La Liga on Sunday.

After second-placed Real Madrid pulled level on points with them on Saturday by beating Leganes, Hansi Flick’s side restored their advantage at the Olympic Stadium.

Lewandowski responded to Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe’s double with one of his own to stay three goals ahead in the race for Spain’s golden boot.

Barcelona, unbeaten this year in 20 matches, took the lead through a Ladislav Krejci own goal near the end of the first half.

Arnaut Danjuma pulled Girona level but Lewandowski netted twice and Ferran Torres finished off the rout.

Girona beat Barcelona twice last season but have struggled to hit those heights again and sit 13th.

“We played with patience, we had a plan and if we play with that plan we can always score a lot of goals and win the game”, veteran striker Lewandowski told DAZN.

The 36-year-old said he had the legs to keep playing for seasons to come.

“I know a lot of people are talking abut my age but… I want to play more years at the top level”, said the Poland international.

“I feel very good physically, I think looking at the stats there’s no difference now to a few years ago”.

Flick rotated some of his usual suspects with the Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid in mind.

Barca were below their free-flowing best in the first half despite dominating, occasionally threatening through the dynamic running of teenage star Lamine Yamal and frantic energy of Fermin Lopez.

Paulo Gazzaniga saved well from Lopez on the counter-attack after Viktor Tsygankov blazed over Girona’s first decent opportunity.

Gazzaniga saved well from Lewandowski and then Yamal, who also fired over.

Barcelona wanted a penalty when Fermin was brought down by Yaser Asprilla on the edge of the box and a free-kick was given.

A VAR review showed the contact was inside the area but the referee decided Lopez fouled Asprilla as they came together, much to Barcelona’s chagrin.

– Breakthrough –
Gazzaniga produced a sensational save with his fingertips to push out a Ronald Araujo header but Barca found a way through before half-time.

Yamal’s dangerous free-kick aimed at Eric Garcia was deflected into his own net by Krejci at the near post.

Girona had produced very little of note in the first half but were back level eight minutes into the second through Danjuma.

Daley Blind played the Dutch striker through and he beat Wojciech Szczesny with a clinical low finish.

However Barcelona were swiftly back in front as La Liga’s top goalscorer Lewandowski notched his 24th of the campaign.

Lopez nodded the ball across the six-yard box and Lewandowski contorted his body to reach it and flick it between Gazzaniga’s legs.

The forward secured Barcelona’s victory with his 25th, slotting home after substitute Frenkie de Jong pushed forward into space and fed him.

There was time for Torres to add a fourth after Gerard Martin found him and the brilliant Yamal to bend a strike against the crossbar.

This was remarkably the 20th time this season Flick’s side have scored four goals or more from 45 games, with a potential treble in their sights.

“In the first half we had the game under control but lacked the final ball, but in the second half we played more attacking, made more chances and scored some goals, that’s the most important thing”, added Lewandowski.

I’m Very Angry With Putin Over Ukraine — Trump

US President Donald Trump said Sunday he was “very angry, pissed off” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, NBC reported, marking a sharp change of tone as Washington seeks to end the war in Ukraine.

NBC’s Kristen Welker said Trump had called her to express his fury over Putin questioning Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s future as a leader — something that Trump himself has done.

Welker, on her NBC show “Meet The Press” on Sunday, quoted directly from an early-morning telephone conversation with the president.

“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault… I am going to put secondary tariffs on all oil coming out of Russia”, Trump said.

Trump told Welker that he “was very angry, pissed off” over Putin’s recent comments about Zelensky’s credibility and talking about new leadership in Ukraine.

The US president has been pushing for a speedy end to the more than three-year war since taking office, but his administration has failed to reach a breakthrough despite negotiations with both sides.

Putin rejected a joint US-Ukrainian plan for a 30-day ceasefire, and on Friday suggested Zelensky be removed from office as part of the peace process.

Trump told NBC that Putin knows he is angry, but said that he has “a very good relationship with him” and “the anger dissipates quickly… if he does the right thing”.

– Russia bolstered –

Warming ties between Washington and Moscow since Trump’s return to office and his threats to stop supporting Kyiv have bolstered Russia on the battlefield as it pursues its floundering invasion.

Ukraine has accused Russia of dragging out talks with no intention of halting its offensive, with fresh attacks on the northeastern border city of Kharkiv.

Six strikes hit overnight Saturday into Sunday, wounding personnel undergoing treatment at a military hospital and killing at least two people in a residential building, according to Ukrainian officials.

Russian forces also captured a village just seven kilometers (four miles) from the border of Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region in their latest advance, Moscow said Sunday.

The Kremlin’s troops have not crossed the boundary of the region since their offensive began in 2022, but they have been grinding towards it for months in the hope of a breakthrough.

– No ceasefire –

Putin, in power for 25 years and repeatedly elected in votes with no competition, has often questioned Zelensky’s “legitimacy” as president, after the Ukrainian leader’s initial five-year mandate ended in May 2024.

Under Ukrainian law, elections are suspended during times of major military conflict, and Zelensky’s domestic opponents have all said no ballots should be held until after the conflict.

Trump has himself had rocky relations with Zelensky, calling him a “dictator” and clashing with him live on camera at the White House last month.

Zelensky, in his evening address on Saturday, sought to rally his country’s allies against Putin.

“For too long now, America’s proposal for an unconditional ceasefire has been on the table without an adequate response from Russia”, Zelensky said.

“There could already be a ceasefire if there was real pressure on Russia”, he added, thanking those countries “who understand this” and have stepped up sanctions pressure on the Kremlin.

Both Moscow and Kyiv agreed to the concept of a Black Sea truce following talks with US officials earlier this week, but Russia said the deal would not enter into force until Ukraine’s allies lifted certain sanctions.

Explaining the secondary tariffs threat, Trump told NBC it would make it such that “if you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the United States”.

“There will be a 25 percent tariff on all oil, a 25 to 50 point tariff on all oil”, he said, without giving further details.

Atalanta’s Serie A Title Hopes Hit With Fiorentina Defeat

Atalanta’s hopes of winning their first Serie A title took another big hit on Sunday with a 1-0 defeat at Fiorentina, ahead of fixtures for Scudetto rivals Inter Milan and Napoli.

Moise Kean continued his excellent season up front for Fiorentina with the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time in Florence, pushing the hosts to within a point of the division’s European places.

Italy striker Kean, who scored twice for his country against Germany a week ago, confidently netted his 16th league goal of the season after robbing Atalanta defender Isak Hien on the halfway line.

Defeat means Atalanta stay six points behind league leaders and reigning champions Inter, who are expected to beat mid-table Udinese later on Sunday.

Napoli are three points ahead of Atalanta in second and could pull further away in the day’s late match, where Antonio Conte’s side host AC Milan.

Regardless, last year’s Europa League winners Atalanta, who looked like title candidates following an 11-match winning streak between October and December, have fallen away since the turn of the year.

Kylie Minogue reaches incredible career milestone after years of feeling ‘invisible’

Australian icon Kylie Minogue is finally gaining long-awaited recognition in the U. S. after years of feeling “anonymous” in the American market

Kylie Minogue is finally making waves in the American market

After years of feeling like an unknown entity in the United States, Kylie Minogue is finally making waves in the American market – a dream long in the making for the global pop sensation. Despite being a household name across Europe and Australia, the 56-year-old singer admitted she once felt “anonymous” in the U.S.

However, with her recent appearance in Netflix’s highly anticipated comedy The Residence, it seems that is about to change. Minogue, the best-selling female artist from Australia and the third biggest-selling female act in the UK, has captivated audiences for four decades.

But her presence in the U. S. has only gained real traction following the viral success of her 2023 hit Padam Padam. While she had previously expressed contentment with her limited recognition in America, her record label signaled a shift in focus in 2023, revealing that she was now keen on making her mark stateside.

With Padam Padam gaining momentum and her follow-up album Tension securing her a Grammy win and a second No. 1 spot on the U. S. Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, Minogue’s career in America has taken a dramatic turn. Her Las Vegas residency, another milestone in her expanding U. S. presence, further cemented her growing fan base before she was cast in the star-studded Netflix series.

Returning to her acting roots, Minogue – who first found fame on the Australian soap Neighbours – embraces a bold new role in The Residence, where she plays an exaggerated and foul-mouthed version of herself in a murder mystery set in the White House. Fans have been raving about her cameo, with many taking to social media to declare her the highlight of the show. Enthusiastic reactions flooded X (formerly Twitter), with comments such as: “I’ll watch this just for Kylie”, another echoed: “The only reason to tune in is Kylie Minogue.”

Someone else shared: “We need to get Kylie Minogue an Emmy for The Residence”. While another added: “Seeing Kylie Minogue in The Residence was an unexpected but brilliant surprise. Shonda Rhimes really got the budget”.

Her growing appeal in the U. S. is a testament to the power of social media. Jamie Nelson, Senior Vice President of U. K. Recordings at BMG, told Variety in 2023 that while they had always believed Padam Padam would perform well, its viral success exceeded all expectations.

“It’s reaching an unprecedented level – not just for her, but for any artist with such a long history”, he said, attributing much of the momentum to TikTok and online platforms. Minogue herself has embraced the resurgence, taking to social media to express gratitude for the overwhelming support. “This has been an incredible week, and to top it off, it’s my birthday today. I can’t thank you all enough. My heart is bursting with joy”, she wrote.

Capitalizing on this newfound success, Minogue followed in the footsteps of music legends like Cher, Celine Dion, and Adele by launching a Las Vegas residency. Kicking off in November 2023, her More Than Just a Residency series of performances wrapped up on May 4 after an impressive 20-show run.

Addressing the crowd at her final performance, she hinted at a possible return, saying, “This is the end… for now. I love you so much – I can’t wait to see you again”.

Behind the scenes, her impact on Las Vegas was undeniable. According to an insider speaking to The Sun, the head of her residency venue, Michael Gruber, was so impressed that he offered her an unprecedented “residency for life”, allowing her to return on her own terms.

“Venues typically demand fixed contracts or exclusivity agreements, but with Kylie, Michael knows he’s onto something special”, the source revealed.

Despite her long journey toward American recognition, Minogue now sees her recent success as a testament to her endurance. Calling her Vegas residency “a big win for longevity,” she has embraced this new chapter with open arms. However, fans were left disappointed when she announced a world tour without any U.S. dates, underscoring the demand for more of her presence stateside.

Reflecting on her previous struggles in America, Minogue once told The Express in 2009, “It doesn’t frustrate me]not breaking the U. S. market]. What’s frustrating is people assuming it’s something missing from my career or my life”. She also acknowledged in 2022, “I had resigned myself to the fact that America wouldn’t be like the rest of the world for me. I’m anonymous there – which, I must confess, I kind of like”.

But with her recent milestones, it’s clear that Kylie Minogue’s anonymity in America is fading fast. And for a pop icon who has spent 40 years redefining her career, this latest chapter may be one of her most exciting yet.

Ireland recorded a first away win in the Women’s Six Nations since 2021 with a 54-12 victory over Italy in Parma.

Scott Bemand’s side scored four tries in each half with Anna McGann providing a hat-trick at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi.

Returning to the site of their failure to qualify for the last World Cup, the visitors crossed for two scores in the opening seven minutes to take control of the game and beat Italy for the first time since 2022.

Ireland made a slow start in their otherwise encouraging defeat by France in round one but flew out of the traps in Parma to set the foundations of their victory.

Erin King had already secured an early breakdown turnover when Italy lock Valeria Fedrighi was sent to the sin-bin after only 52 seconds.

The high tackle on Edel McMahon was further punished when Ireland scored twice during the 10 minutes against 14 players.

Having felt they failed to make the most of a player advantage against France last week, Ireland showed patience when their maul stalled and Aoife Dalton was on hand to scoop up a loose ball and finish powerfully for the opener.

Before Fegrighi’s return, an Eve Higgins break created the space for McGann to go over for her first.

Scrum-half Sofia Stefan, who was a bright spark for the hosts throughout her hour on the pitch, responded when she caught Ireland cold from a scrum and scampered over from the base.

But another break from Higgins created Ireland’s third score of the half, this time for Amee-Leigh Costigan, and they would secure the try bonus point before the break when McGann crossed again after more patient play in attack.

Linda Djougang scored Ireland's fifth try in Parma before being yellow carded.Inpho

Aoife Wafer had a score ruled out for obstruction at the line-out five minutes into the second half, but Ireland would get their fifth try when prop Linda Djougang crashed over in the 55th minute.

The loose-head was sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle on Emma Stevanin three minutes later with the punishment remaining a yellow card after a TMO bunker review.

Still while down to 14, replacement second row Dorothy Wall finished off another patient Irish move for the side’s sixth try.

Centre Beatrice Rigoni scored for Italy when she cleverly pounced on a loose ball and wriggled over the line, but the hosts were well beaten for the second consecutive week after a heavy loss to England in round one.

Ireland scored twice more in the final three minutes through Brittany Hogan and the third of McGann’s hat-trick in the last play of the game.
