There is no way Paul can beat my son – Chavez Sr

Getty Images

All-time boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr believes there is “no way” Jake Paul can beat his son when the pair meet in California on 28 June.

American Paul, 28, is a divisive figure in the sport who beat a 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a much-hyped contest in November.

Chavez Jr, 39, is a former world champion but has competed just once since 2021.

“Jake Paul is young and strong, but he’s never faced a fighter like my son,” 62-year-old Chavez Sr said at Wednesday’s news conference.

Paul, who found fame by posting prank videos on YouTube and as a child actor on the Disney Channel, has amassed a record of 11 wins, mostly against ex-UFC fighters. His only loss is to Briton Tommy Fury in 2023.

“Put both the Chavezs in there, I’ll whoop Sr and Jr in the same night,” he said.

He feels a win over Chavez Jr at the Honda Center in Anaheim would take him a step closer to an unlikely shot at a cruiserweight world title.

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Paul is missing many steps in boxing – Chavez Jr

Mexican Chavez Jr has won 53 of his 61 fights and held the WBC middleweight title between 2011 and 2012.

In 2017, he went the distance with pound-for-pound star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez but he lost a boxing bout to former UFC champion Anderson Silva in 2021.

“[Paul] has never fought anybody like me. Mike Tyson wasn’t even a fighter,” Chavez Jr said.

“He doesn’t know what he’s going to see or what to expect because he’s never seen it before. In boxing, you learn step by step, and he’s missing many.”

Chavez Jr has been accused of lacking dedication in the past. In July, he was booed by fans after he called out Paul following a laboured points win over ex-MMA fighter Uriah Hall.

But his father is drawing confidence from what he has seen in his son’s camp so far.

Real agree to pay Huijsen’s £50m release clause

Getty Images

Real Madrid are set to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen after agreeing to pay the defender’s £50m release clause.

The Spain international, 20, is close to agreeing personal terms with the La Liga club, turning down a number of offers to remain in England.

Madrid will activate the release clause in Huijsen’s Bournemouth contract, which he signed less than 12 months ago.

The fee will be paid in three instalments, with Huijsen’s two former clubs set to receive a slice of the fee – Juventus are due 10% and Malaga 5%.

BBC Sport has been told by multiple sources the deal is progressing with a full agreement expected soon.

Real wanted to complete the signing before next month’s inaugural Club World Cup in the US.

Huijsen has chosen Real and will return to Spain where he grew up, playing for Costa Unida CF academy in Marbella and Malaga’s youth team.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Real manager, has been instrumental in the decision to sign the defender and prioritised signing a young centre-back.

Huijsen joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for a fee of £12.6m.

The Netherlands-born defender has made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries this season, scoring three times.

James Argent’s girlfriend’s deleted post which sparked row before domestic violence arrest

Model Nicoline Artursson is said to have shared a message on social media alluding to James Argent’s friendship with ex Lydia Bright hours before he was arrested

James Argent’s girlfriend is said to have said a cryptic post on social media that reportedly resulted in an explosive row between the couple. The former TOWIE star, 37, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in Spain earlier this month.

He allegedly attacked his model girlfriend Nicoline Artursson while on holiday and was arrested on May 5. Argent was taken into custody and reportedly received a suspended jail sentence and must carry out a “resocialisation course in the field of gender violence.”

The reality TV personality was also given a restraining order banning him from contacting Ms Artursson. Onlookers who witnessed the incident had told the Mirror that they heard an “aggressive man yelling” while also “throwing objects” from the terrace of a nearby house.

Argent admitted to “mistreating” Nicoline in the Court of Violence Against Women in Fuengirola. A row is said to have erupted between the couple after Nicoline shared a message on Instagram on May 4, alluding to his friendship with ex Lydia Bright.

According to The Sun, Nicoline shared a post at 10:44pm that read: “Is it OK if your boyfriend or girlfriend is talking and hanging out with their ex and the exes family daily and liking their Instagram posts etc?

“No kids involved with the ex. And then it shows up on your explore page that your partner showed that interest with them but they blame you for seeing it and now the ex is supposedly their ‘best friend’.

“I know what my family and friends think and certainly what I think. If you’re in a serious relationship with your partner you’ve got to respect your partner and leave the past in the past.”

The publication reports the post was deleted shortly afterwards. “Arg is so close with Lydia and her family, they are like his family,” a source told them.

“Nicoline’s post, in Arg’s eyes, was clearly about Lydia and he turned violent. He knows his behaviour was inexcusable. That’s why he told the police exactly what happened.”

The Mirror understands Nicoline’s mother arrived at the scene to aid her daughter and police transported them both to a hospital.

Nicoline has since been spotted for the first time since news of Argent’s arrest. She kept her head down as she walked alongside her mum in Spain.

Argent and Artursson met by chance in Marbella last summer and went public in September. One onlooker admitted to being “frightened” by the shouts, telling us: “We were frightened by his shouts. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing.”

They claimed Artursson appeared to be “physically and emotionally devastated” by what happened. When approached by The Mirror, the Guardia Civil confirmed the arrest, saying: “We can confirm Mr Argent was arrested by ‘Policia Local’ of Mijas for an alleged crime of domestic violence on 5th May.”

Speaking out for the first time since his arrest yesterday, the wedding singer said: “I am devastated by what’s happened.” He went on to tell the Daily Mail that he hadn’t relapsed, explaining: “I am still three years and four months clean and sober.”

Argent rose to fame as an original cast member on The Only Way Is Essex, appearing on the ITV series from 2010 until 2018. TOWIE suspended Argent from filming in October 2014 when he failed a drug test. He later attended rehab before returning to the series.

The Mirror has contacted Argent’s representatives for comment.

Hull City boss Selles set to depart

Getty Images

Hull City boss Ruben Selles is set to depart after six months in charge, BBC Radio Humberside reports.

The Spaniard left League One Reading to replace Tim Walter on a two-and-a-half-year deal in December.

After an inconsistent season they eventually avoided relegation to League One on the final day of the campaign having secured a draw against Portsmouth.

Selles had guided Reading to sixth in League One despite their off-field concerns when he left for East Yorkshire on 6 December.

Predecessor Walter had been relieved of his duties the previous week after a run of nine matches without a win.

Selles claimed his first win as Tigers boss with a 2-1 home win over Swansea on 21 December to end a winless run of 13 matches.

Although they claimed notable results away from home under Selles, including wins at promotion-chasing Sheffield United and Sunderland, they found home wins incredibly hard to come by and ended the season with the worst home record in the division.

Defeats at the MKM Stadium by fellow strugglers Luton and Derby meant they went into the final game of the season in the Championship relegation zone.

Other fixtures meant a win would guarantee their survival and, although they were pegged back at Fratton Park after Matt Crooks had given them the lead, a point proved to be enough to keep them up on goal difference.

After the match Selles told BBC Radio Humberside: “Everyone in the club managed difficult moments and it has been a tough season for everyone and we deserved to stay in the division.

“We had a team that was rock bottom and to achieve the target this season with all the injuries and everything else is just massive.

When will Marks & Spencer be back online? Here’s the newest update

As the online outage nears the month-long mark, is M&S ready to take orders via its website yet?

We look at the latest updates from M&S(Image: Getty)

If you’ve been trying to place an online order with Marks & Spencer recently and found yourself out of luck, you’re definitely not alone. M&S has been battling with the fallout from a major cyberattack that hit over the Easter weekend, forcing them to pull the plug on their UK online orders since April 25.

It’s been newly revealed that the hack, carried out by a group known as DragonForce (also sometimes called Scattered Spider), exposed customer data like names, addresses and order histories, though thankfully, card details and passwords stayed safe. Still, it’s been a bit of a digital disaster, with even in-store services like contactless payments and click-and-collect being affected.

Jayne Wall, operations director for M&S, wrote earlier this week: “To proactively manage the incident, we immediately took steps to protect our systems and engaged leading cyber security experts. We also reported the incident to relevant government authorities and law enforcement, who we continue to work closely with. Unfortunately, the nature of the incident means that some personal customer data has been taken, but there is no evidence that it has been shared.”

It’s said that the retailer’s been losing around £4 million a day in online sales, and while their physical stores are still open, there’s no confirmed date yet for when the website will be back in action. M&S is working closely with cybersecurity experts and has already asked customers to reset their passwords as a precaution. It’s clear they’re taking the situation seriously, but for now, all we can do is wait patiently.

Missing your M&S fashion buys? Not to worry, there are plenty of buys from other online retailers promising equal quality and pricing. Here are some of our favourites of the week…

P Diddy trial jurors gasp and raise eyebrows as shock images from ‘freak offs’ shown in court

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is on trial facing a number of charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution

The jurors in the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs trial were shown images from the ‘freak off’ sex parties the rapper and producer organised. The trial is underway with the disgraced rapper facing a number of charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution.

The 55-year-old was arrested in September and strongly denies all allegations made against him. He has been in prison since his arrest, with a number of bail requests rejected. On Wednesday, the courtroom for the sex trafficking trial of Diddy at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Courthouse fell silent as the jury members were shown five still images of the ‘freak offs’ on their screens.

Their screens were blocked from public view. An escort is shown in two of the images, including one of Diddy’s ex-girlfriend and singer, Cassie Ventura, which is a still from longer video footage. She’s also pictured with other men at the ‘freak offs’.

Ventura said of one image, which showed her with three male escorts: “There is baby oil on me and I am standing there during a freak off with a candle and lubricant on the table.”

While being shown the images, one male jury member’s eyebrows shot up while a female juror swallowed hard and appeared to move her head from side to side. One female juror let out an audible gasp and placed her hand on her chest as an image was shown.

Another man took notes on a notepad while a woman nodded affirmatively. Only the singer, Diddy and his lawyers, the jurors and the prosecution were allowed to see the images.

During the third day, Ventura recalled a moment they got into an argument while staying on a boat belonging to one of his friends.

Diddy accused Ventura of stealing drugs from him. “[He] kicked me off the boat with no shoes early one morning,” she told the court, adding: “I walked over to his staff’s hotel and I stayed in somebody’s room.” While attending an event at Cannes Film Festival, Ventura says Diddy gave her “evil glares.”

She added: “He would grab my leg and like squeeze my thighs tight as he could, and I was wearing a beaded dress, so it was really painful.” On the flight home, Ventura swapped seats so she wouldn’t be sitting near Diddy. However, he moved seats to sit beside her.

During the flight, she claims he showed her footage of a freak off, despite her initially believing he’d deleted them. Diddy allegedly told Ventura that “he was going to embarrass me and release them,” she told the court. Upon landing in New York, they headed to dinner, and he allegedly wanted another freak off.

She testified: “Whatever was going to make him not be angry at me and threatening me, I was willing to do. I just didn’t want to feel scared anymore. And it was the one thing he made me feel like I was good at.”

She also told the court how she and Diddy would take IV fluids, have massages and take opiates to recover from the freak offs.

“Opiates made me feel numb, which is why I relied on them so heavily,” she told the court before explaining Diddy would often provide them. She said she had regular gastrointestinal problems from the drugs and often suffered from urinary tract infections.
