The Federal Government has adopted the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State as a Federal University.
President Tinubu approved the adoption on Friday and thanked the Ogun State Government for inviting the Federal Government to take over the school, one of the state’s best educational assets.
This was contained in a statement released by the Presidency on Sunday.

“It is an opportunity for the Federal Government to honour Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who began the revolutionary free education programme in Western Nigeria and Dr Tai Solarin, who spent most of his life educating our children and impacting patriotic and leadership lessons in them at Mayflower School in Ikenne”, Tinubu was quoted to have said.
“It is also in honour of the Awujale of Ijebuland, who played a critical role in preventing the university’s closure in 2012, just seven years after its establishment”, he added.
President Tinubu emphasised that TASUED’s transition into a Federal University of Education is a strategic step in the Federal Government’s commitment to bolster teacher education and enhance the quality of instruction across all educational levels.
With a well-developed infrastructure and academic programme, the transition requires minimal federal investment.
Established by the Ogun State Government in 2005, TASUED holds the distinguished position as Nigeria’s first specialised university of education.
It was named after Dr Tai Solarin, a revered activist and the founder of Mayflower School in Ikenne. As a federal institution, TASUED will be the first federally owned tertiary school in Ogun East senatorial district.
Awolowo and Solarin were celebrated figures from the Eastern Senatorial District of Ogun State, encompassing Ijebu and Remo.

“Everyone would understand why Danny and his wife have been quiet”, the source claims. “They are likely working through various discussions from the first video that was released alone. With this second video, Danny needs to now speak out”.
They add: “Maura is getting a lot of the backlash, and Danny seems to be getting away with his actions as a husband who was supposed to have been in love with his wife for over a decade. Danny’s career should be halted at this point and he should be big enough to now speak out to everyone and explain what has happened and take some accountability”.
“This is unfair on his wife, who seems to have put the family and their marriage first. Who knows if another video will emerge, but being honest is now the only way that this has a chance of resolving itself”.
The Mirror has reached out to Danny and Georgia’s reps for comment.
Maura, meanwhile, posted on Instagram on Sunday 8 March – her first post since the scandal erupted – that she was leaving London Heathrow for LA. Sharing a photo from inside the plane, she revealed she is travelling from London Heathrow to Los Angeles as she wrote on the image: “Exciting shoot” followed by a plane emoji.
The whole sorry saga began with a video of a boozy kiss between the I’m A Celebrity co-stars at the Universal Music BRITS afterparty, which swiftly went viral.At the time it was claimed the pair “seemed to be having a great time” at the afterparty. The source later added: “They looked like they had a brief drunken kiss”.

The pair were later snapped smiling as they left the bash alongside their fellow former jungle campmate Oti Mabuse, as Danny then reportedly ‘ moved away ‘ to speak to others, while Maura walked towards a chauffeur-driven car, while ‘ shouting Danny’s name’.
It later emerged that married Danny, 38 and single Maura, 34 – who recently split from Strictly star Pete Wicks – had continued to party with jungle king Danny at exclusive London hotel Nobu until 6am, drinking wine together.
On Saturday, the Mirror revealed that Danny’s behaviour has been a “slap in the face for Georgia”, whose own career has taken a backseat to Danny’s. When he was in the jungle, she broke down in tears saying her emotions had “come to a head” as she juggled a house move, solo parenting and work. The late Hollyoaks and Love Island star tragically passed away this year on January 15 at the age of 46, having faced a tumultuous life in the spotlight, including a struggle with drug addiction. The reality TV personality, who also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, is said to have died after he had ‘ slipped and fell ‘ in his luxury apartment near Bristol.
Two months on, Linda, 66, has opened up to Bella magazine about the incredibly challenging year she’s had. The Loose Women panellist revealed how she’s been struggling in the wake of his death and the heartbreaking dementia diagnosis of her Birds of a Feather co-star, Pauline Quirke.
The TV star shared how she had fond memories of her time with Paul, which included when they had appeared on Celebrity Coach Trip. “I travelled around Portugal with him for 10 days, ‘ she said. ‘ I loved him – he was such a good boy, he really was”, she said.

Months before his death, Danan discussed how he ended up working in a phone shop after the offers dried up.
On a podcast in November, he said: “It’s very tough. I mean, maybe years ago, I shouldn’t have left Hollyoaks, but I made that decision because, after four years, I didn’t want to be typecast and back then, everyone didn’t want to be the next Ken Barlow. You wanted to go off and play different roles, especially when you’re a real actor”.
Paul explained how starring in reality shows led to the demise of his career. He said: “It was a detriment to my acting career because it didn’t help. Maybe if I had stayed in the background and didn’t make a big splash, I would probably have been alright. But you know me, if I’m on a show, I’m going to give it my all and be TV gold! Belgium goalkeeper Koen Casteels announced Sunday that he was “no longer available” for international duty, ahead of the likely return from exile of Real Madrid shotstopper Thibaut Courtois.
The 32-year-old was the first-choice goalkeeper for Belgium at Euro 2024, after Courtois had walked out on the Belgian national team following a disagreement with then coach Domenico Tedesco.
Since the arrival of Rudi Garcia as coach in January, Courtois has stated his desire to return form the international wilderness.
With Garcia saying at the time of his appointment: “Even if there is quality in goal with Matz Sels and Koen Casteels, we are counting on Thibaut, who I consider to be the best goalkeeper in the world”.

But Casteels said on a Playsports podcast on Sunday that “(he is) no longer available for the national team”.

Now at Saudi club Al Qadsiah, Casteels earned 20 caps for Belgium since making his debut in 2020.
