Dozens Arrested, Three Hurt By Car In Paris After PSG Win

French police arrested 47 people in the capital and three others were injured by a car after football club Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal to reach the Champions League final, authorities said Thursday.

Raucous celebrations erupted in Paris after PSG beat their English rivals 2-1 Wednesday night to advance to the May 31 final and a shot at the club’s first Champions League title.

Three people were injured when a Mercedes crashed into a group of pedestrians near the capital’s iconic Champs-Elysees avenue as PSG fans celebrated, police said, adding the “circumstances… remain unclear at this stage”.

One of those injured, a minor, was in critical condition in hospital, prosecutors said.

They said they had opened an investigation for assault, fleeing the scene and failure to assist a person in danger.

Police said the driver tried to flee in the car, but was unable to get through the dense crowd of supporters.

The driver and a passenger then ran away on foot, “abandoning their car to the fury of the crowd. It was burned and completely destroyed”, police said.

Rowdy groups clashed with officers, pelting them with objects, police said.

Four vehicles were reported damaged.

AFP journalists saw two burned-out vehicles near the Champs-Elysees.

Paris had deployed more than 2, 000 police and emergency workers for the match, which fell the day before a public holiday to mark the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

Thousands of fans without tickets massed outside the Parc des Princes stadium during the match.

Police intervened to restore the flow of traffic after rowdy celebrations erupted, but reported “no major incidents” outside the stadium.

In the nearby town of Fontainebleau, police said they had used tear gas to break up an unruly crowd of around 500 people.

Primark’s ‘sleek’ £10 sandals look ‘just like’ £119 Massimo Dutti version

Primark’s new shoes look very similar to a designer pair – but there’s a huge price difference

Primark has launched a new pair of shoes that look just like a more expensive designer pair. The budget-friendly retailer, known for its fashion and home items, might have just unveiled a hit with shoppers.

The high street favourite’s Paula Echevarría Strappy Toe Loop Sandals are similar to a style by designer brand Massimo Dutti, but Primark’s offering comes at a much lower price point. Shoppers can pick up the Primark version for £10, while the designer counterpart carries a price tag of £119 when shopped online.

Both pairs feature a minimalist aesthetic with sleek, crossover straps with a hair-on finish look, matching toe loops and a similar animal print pattern. They both also have flat, black soles and a buckle fastening.

However, there are some clear differences between the two. The Massimo Dutti shoes feature a more rounded toe than the Primark version, while the pattern is also somewhat lighter and the straps are slightly wider too.

The designer shoes are also made with cowhide leather, while Primark’s shoes are synthetic. The hair-on texture of the high street shoes is also faux.

Primark pitches the Paula Echevarría Strappy Toe Loop Sandals as a way to “step up your summer shoe edit.” They’re available in sizes three to eight.

Primark’s product description reads: “Warm weather days call for shoes that slay, and these toe loop sandals are just the ticket. Featuring a fashionable leopard print design, they also have a faux hair texture that’s both soft and stylish.

“The square toe is sleek and contemporary, while the gold-toned buckle adds a luxe finishing touch. These sandals also feature a flat sole and versatile colourway that will complement every fit. Wear them on sun-soaked days and get set to soak up the rays in style!”

The designer description states: “Cowhide leather with hair-on finish. Criss-cross straps on the front. Sheepskin lining. Adjustable buckle fastening . Leopard print. Includes AIRFIT insole: Flexible technical foam insole, designed to offer greater comfort.”

Retailing at £10, the Primark shoes are a steal compared to the Massimo Dutti animal print faux fur sandals, which cost £119. This means shoppers could pocket a saving of approximately £109 by choosing the budget-friendly version.

Beckham boys’ inside secrets – girlfriend swaps, famous parents and brutal fights

David and Victoria Beckham’s three sons – Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz – have an impressive group of friends, having been raised in the same elite circles as their superstar parents

The Beckham kids have a close-knit circle

David and Victoria Beckham have achieved much success in their lives, but their pride and joy has always come from their four children.

The iconic couple married in 1999, the same year they welcomed their first child, Brooklyn Beckham. They went on to grow their family with the births of sons Romeo and Cruz in 2002 and 2005, and daughter Harper in 2011. In 2022, their family expanded once more when Brooklyn married actress Nicola Peltz, officially adding a daughter-in-law to the Beckham clan.

With two superstar parents known throughout the world and having attended some of the world’s most exclusive private schools, it’s inevitable that they’d be rubbing shoulders in the elite circles of the rich and famous. But who are those closest to the Beckham boys?

Famous parents

Despite an estimated combined net worth of £455million, David and Victoria have always tried to raise their children with humility.

“I want my kids to be able to understand that they are very fortunate that they have that, but other kids around the world don’t and I will continue to fight for that,” David told HELLO! magazine.

“It’s a silly thing to say but our kids are the future. I’m very lucky to live in a city, in a country that the kids can have a great meal, they can drink fresh water, they can look after themselves and we’re very fortunate that we have that.”

The comments echo David’s previous statements about how he and wife Victoria are choosing to raise their children.

“We have always led by example, in terms of the way we treat our children, with the way we look after our children, the way we love our children,” David told the Telegraph in 2014.

“Their upbringing is a lot different to my upbringing so I think there is always a kind of fear factor… I mean, the first day that you have kids, you constantly worry.”

David says he and Victoria are very strict, ensuring their kids are well behaved at all times.

“But we are very strict parents. We want to bring them up as closely as possible to how we were brought, because you have to give them manners, you have to give them boundaries and our children definitely have that,” he said.

“It’s the most wonderful thing in the world but you are bringing children into a world where you really have to protect them. They are very privileged and they have a lovely life, and I want to protect that and to protect them from anything that goes on outside the family.”

Family friends

The Beckham boys are friendly with the children of foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay. The Beckhams and Ramsays have all grown up together and are of similar ages, and have remained close pals over the years.

His daughter, Tilly Ramsay, 23, is close pals with Cruz, who appeared on her cookery show. Additionally, the carefree kids were spotted cavorting in the snow together around Christmas time in 2018.

However, Gordon made his daughters promise they wouldn’t date the Beckham boys.

“Over the past 10 years we’ve naturally got on,” he said of the bond between their families.

“I see how hard David and Victoria work.

The Beckham and Ramsay children have grown up together

“But the connection is our ambition to get all eight children through school, college, university, and then dust ourselves down, when the kids are in their 20s, as having been decent parents. That’s hard. We feed off each other.

“Three girls and a boy, and three boys and a girl – you’d be amazed at the synergy. We’ve promised that no one dates anybody, and so far…”

Laughing and jumping up to touch a wooden table nearby, he added: “If Holly said: ‘Yeah, Brooklyn and I…’ it would be: ‘No, Holly.’”

As reported by E! News, Cruz also has famous godparents: “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria and musician Marc Anthony, both of whom were present at his and Harper Beckham’s joint baptism in 2019.

Girlfriend swap

Kim has been welcomed into the Beckham family(Image: INSTAGRAM)

Romeo went public with his relationship with girlfriend Kim Turnbull in November of last year, following several weeks of flirty interactions on Instagram. Since then, Kim has been warmly embraced by the Beckham family.

The 25-year-old model and aspiring DJ appears to have seamlessly integrated into the family, regularly appearing in group photos shared online, most recently at David’s birthday celebrations.

However, despite the warm welcome from Romeo’s parents, Kim has seemingly never interacted with his brother Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz, 30 – hinting at possible tension between Kim and the couple.

Online activity has fuelled speculation of a rift. Around the time Romeo and Kim began dating, Brooklyn and Nicola reportedly stopped engaging with Romeo on social media.

Their absence was particularly noticeable during David’s milestone birthday festivities. Despite being invited to all three celebrations and being in London at the time, Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola chose not to attend, even missing a private dinner held at the family’s Cotswolds home.

Their decision to skip the events may be tied to reports of a falling out between Brooklyn and Romeo, allegedly stemming from Kim. According to TMZ, Brooklyn is said to have had a “romantic connection” with Kim during their teenage years and feels uneasy about her dating his younger brother.

Brooklyn’s youngest brother, Cruz, 20, has denied these claims, though Kim and Brooklyn were photographed together several times in 2016.

It’s also been suggested that Nicola may feel uncomfortable attending events where one of Brooklyn’s former flames is present.

Following their past history, Brooklyn is reportedly questioning Kim’s intentions with Romeo, which may have contributed to growing tension between the brothers. According to the same report, Brooklyn and Nicola have decided to avoid public family gatherings where Kim is present, particularly after relations began to sour in December.

‘Inseparable’

Kim, is the well-heeled granddaughter of renowned post-war sculptor and painter William Turnbull, while her father Alex Turnbull and uncle Johnny were part of the post-punk band 23 Skidoo, formed in 1979.

Rocco Ritchie
Rocco and Brooklyn were once “inseparable”

She previously dated Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s son Rocco, and through that connection was part of a tightknit friendship group in 2016 which included Brooklyn.

At the time, Rocco and Brooklyn were reportedly “inseparable,” with Rocco evening follow in his best friend Brooklyn’s footsteps and move to New York to study photography.

A friend told the Sunday People: “Brooklyn is like the surrogate older brother he looks up to.

“Rocco wants to study art and film. He also wants to do photography and he and Brooklyn will be doing projects together.”

‘I was hacked’ – Pereira denies retirement tweet

Getty Images

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira says his social media was hacked after a tweet hinted at retirement.

Pereira, 37, last fought in March when he lost his UFC belt to Magomed Ankalaev, and is currently in talks to fight the Russian again.

In a post on Wednesday Pereira said he was “disheartened” with the UFC and was having “thoughts of not fighting any more”.

Pereira is the UFC’s biggest current star and after a few hours of speculation, the Brazilian posted a video from his Instagram account saying it was not a statement made by him.

“I didn’t even know about it. I was hacked.

” It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything – you guys see. But I was hacked and I’ll resolve it.

Vote on women’s right to wear shorts to be held

Inpho

The Camogie Association has reacted to the controversy over players being forced to wear skorts as opposed to shorts by calling a Special Congress for 22 May to vote on the issue.

The Kilkenny and Dublin teams were forced to change into skorts before last weekend’s Leinster Championship semi-final after taking to the field wearing shorts.

Both sides were told by the referee that the game would be abandoned if the players did not change.

A vote will take place at the Special Congress which if passed, will give players the option of wearing skorts or shorts from 24 May.

“The Special Congress is being called to consider motion(s) to provide all players with the choice to wear skorts or shorts while playing camogie,” said a Camogie Association statement.

Previous attempts to change the skort rule did not pass at the Camogie Association’s Annual Congress in 2024.

Camogie is governed by the Camogie Association of Ireland, which is closely linked to the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and alongside the Ladies Gaelic Football Association is scheduled to formally integrate into the wider GAA in 2027.

Camogie Association president Brian Molloy said on Thursday: “Our goal is to deliver, as quickly as possible, a best-in-class playing uniform designed for female players and allowing for individual choice.”

Following the stance taking by the Kilkenny and Dublin teams in last Saturday’s game at Blanchardstown, Cork and Waterford players have said that they will wear shorts in Saturday’s Munster Senior Final.

A number of Dublin club teams have worn shorts in fixtures this week after the county’s camogie board told referees to allow games to proceed even if players didn’t wear skorts.
