Australia’s Albanese calls national election for May 3

In a contest set to be dominated by cost-of-living concerns, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called for a national election on May 3. He wants to run for re-elected Labor Party leaders for a third three-year term.

Albanese said on Friday that the election would have to be a decision between the Liberal Party-led coalition’s proposed spending cuts and his government’s plan to “keep building.”

At a press conference, Albanese stated to reporters, “What I want is a campaign with policy substance and optimism for our country.”

“Australia has my optimism.” One of the key points of this campaign is that.

According to polls, Labor and the Liberal-National Coalition, led by former police detective Peter Dutton, are at odds with one another, making it the first government to serve just one term since 1931.

Labor has lost ground in the polls as a result of its convincing defeat of the centre-right Coalition in the 2022 election as a result of unrest over rising costs of living, including a persistent shortage of affordable housing.

Australia’s housing market has almost doubled between 2002 and 2024, making it one of the least affordable in the world.

More than three-quarters of Australians said they were unhappy with the quality of affordable housing in their area, a 31-point increase over the same period last year, according to a Gallup poll conducted.

Only Turkiye surveyed of the 13 nations, which had a higher proportion of residents who were unhappy with the housing situation.

By the end of the decade, Albanese pledged to oversee the construction of 1.2 million new homes.

However, the government’s construction initiative has started slowly, with the Urban Development Institute of Australia estimating that 400 000 homes will be left out of the target.

Dutton has suggested investing $5 billion ($3.15 billion) to help build 500, 000 new homes, as well as a number of measures to reduce demand, including a two-year ban on foreign investors and temporary residents purchasing real estate.

Dutton claimed on Friday that Australia was “going backwards,” accusing Albanese of being fixated on a referendum that would have established a body to consult parliament on issues relating to indigenous issues rather than fundamental concerns.

He said, “I don’t think we can just afford to continue on this course, and that means we can’t afford three more years of Labor.”

“Labor’s economic policies and shoddy spending have caused Australians to pay more to live.”

Healthcare, immigration, energy, and climate change are among the issues that are expected to be at the forefront of the campaign.

Dutton has suggested shifting the country’s energy mix to nuclear power by building two small modular reactors and seven nuclear power plants, despite Albanese’s pledge to make significant investments in green manufacturing and solar and wind power.

Although the majority of votes will go to Labor or the Coalition, polls indicate that the main parties’ support is at an all-time low, which raises the possibility of a hung parliament.

To form a minority government, Labor and the Coalition would need to negotiate with the left-leaning Australian Greens or independents if they were to win a majority in the 150-seat House of Representatives.

Adolescence star leaves Jeremy Clarkson stunned after curious exchange on Twitter

A question was raised about a scene from the Netflix drama Adolescence that was shot in one continuous shot in Jeremy Clarkson’s tweet, now known as X.

Jeremy Clarkson questioned how a scene in Adolescence was filmed(Image: Getty Images)

Jeremy Clarkson was impressed when an Adolescence actor confirmed a scene – which the TV presenter branded “impossible” – was filmed in just one take.

The broadcaster was perplexed at how a scene at the end of episode two was filmed, considering it has been widely reported each episode of the drama was made in just one continuous shot. Mr Clarkson, 64, referred to the conclusion of the second episode, which saw a chase scene, which at one point was filmed through a window.

He said on X, which was known as Twitter: “Adolescence. The camera at the end of [episode] 2. How on earth did they do that? It’s impossible.” Someone who claimed to appear on the show as an actor replied: “Hey Jeremy. Actor that worked on the show. It was indeed attached VERY carefully to a powerful drone. They only got the take in the bag on the final day.”

It left the former Top Gear host impressed. He replied: “Well congrats to you all. Masterful television.” More than 1,000 people liked Mr Clarkson’s reply, posted on the social media site earlier this month when Adolescence took Netflix by storm.

A TikTok about the operation of the scene was created by Bella Roberts, who also worked on the show. I’m going to let you into a secret, Bella said. The glass is fake, not real. I’m sorry to contradict the facts. However, the window wasn’t there when they were filming that scene, which is how they did it.

Someone is waiting on the other side of the camera’s door to grab it while the camera passes through the empty panel. In the event that the actor falls, there is also a crash mat on the other side of the window. Which was also painted out… The window was simply VFXed back in. “

Moments later, eagle-eyed viewers described how they spotted a camera operator. The behind-the-scenes details of how they managed to do so successfully have delighted viewers. A camera operator can now be seen in an aerial shot at the conclusion of the second episode.

After highlighting that reporters sat down with creators to spill the beans on it all, a TikTok user, @itsjusttjoy, took to her page to explain. In episode two, she states, “You can see a camera operator.

So they had a team of photographers coming up behind Matthew the cinematographer who clipped the drone as Ashley Walters left the car. Then they flew that drone over the town, and Matthew the cinematographer hopped into a van and drove to the Stephen Graham-eradying final scene.

Amy Hart has slammed trolls who wanted her sacked from a Love Island presenting job.

Fans of her ex-boyfriend Curtis Pritchard were furious Amy had landed a role on the official Love Island: All Stars podcast. However, she has ignored the backlash and proved to be a popular figure behind the mic.

Everyone was preoccupied from the beginning about how awkward it would be for me to talk about Curtis, according to Amy, who even confronted him after he left the villa. I was asked, “What would happen if we meet face-to-face,” and I had to speak with him. However, sadly for everyone, we all manage to survive fairly well.

He stated in his pre-villa interviews that “I’m really looking forward to seeing Amy when she interviews me for the podcast.” Because I know him so well, I can push him hard, and I can wind up with him, he was my easiest interview.

Panama approves embattled ex-President Martinelli’s passage to Nicaragua

Former president Ricardo Martinelli, who is currently facing money laundering charges, has been granted safe passage to Nicaragua thanks to Panama’s government.

In response to concerns about the former president’s health, foreign affairs minister Javier Martinez-Acha Vasquez announced on Thursday that Martinelli would be permitted to leave.

Martinelli has been avoiding arrest by residing in Panama City’s embassy, where he had previously been granted asylum by Nicaragua.

The health concerns Martinelli faces were not addressed by Panama’s foreign minister.

The Foreign Relations Ministry has approved Mr. Martinelli Berrocal’s asylum request because justice’s timeline does not always coincide with health’s, according to Martinez-Acha Vasquez.

“This asylum has been granted for pure humanitarian reasons, and the safe conduct has been recognized.”

Ricardo Martinelli, the former president of Panama, waves to supporters at a political rally in Panama City in February 2024.

After serving a 2023 sentence for money laundering, Martinelli, 73, has exhausted all of his legal options. In addition, the case also resulted in a $ 19 million fine.

Martinelli’s political career came to an end as a result of the conviction. He was denied a presidential election in Panama last year after the Electoral Tribunal’s ruling that year.

Anyone who has served five years or more in prison is prohibited from holding elected office under Panama’s constitution. However, Martinelli was viewed as the race’s frontrunner prior to the decision.

Martinelli has always maintained his innocence. However, prosecutors successfully argued that he used his influence to, between 2009 and 2014, grant government contracts to businesses that later funneled money to a group known as “New Business.”

According to the prosecution, that company was a front. And they claimed that Martinelli benefited from it by buying a national newspaper publisher.

One of Martinelli’s most recent controversy came after he left office, and it was the “New Business” scandal.

He and his two sons, Luis Enrique Martinelli Linares and Ricardo Martinelli Linares, have also been accused of being involved in the international corruption investigation that implicated leaders from several Latin American nations.

Martinelli, a former supermarket entrepreneur and well-known right-winger, has used social media to communicate with his supporters since February 2024.

Till Thursday, Panama has turned down his request to leave. However, Martinelli expressed concern that the country’s police might intercept him before the foreign minister’s announcement that he will now be allowed to leave.

He wrote on Thursday on the social media platform X that “they must be plotting against me by having Alpha Units of the National Police outside the Nicaraguan Embassy.”

‘Bring on Barca’ – Chelsea’s ‘quadruple mentality’ is back

Next: Barcelona? “Bring it on”.

Chelsea captain Millie Bright responded to their request to reach the Women’s Champions League for the third time in a row with the Spanish giants.

Chelsea blew away Manchester City in a ruthless display at Stamford Bridge to erase a first-leg deficit. Belief is prevalent in the squad, and it was abundant.

After coming out of the tie with a 2-0 lead, Sonia Bompastor’s side had to work, but they still managed to win.

“We never had any doubts. We were completely confident in ourselves. There were more goals than three, according to Bright.

We are incredibly motivated to return, they say. A true Chelsea performance, to be sure.

Barcelona has stopped Chelsea’s quest for European glory in previous years, but this year they have an additional incentive.

Chelsea are already in the Women’s League Cup, eight points clear of the top of the league, and they are also in the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup, which means they will need to win a quadruple.

Former Chelsea midfielder Karen Carney commented on TNT Sports, “The quadruple mentality is back on.”

You can’t stop them because they are a train, and they are not stopping. They will be “we want that quadruple and we are not going to stop.”

Bompastor claims she won’t allow herself to consider a four-trophy haul, but Chelsea has a lot of ambitions and their performance against City on Thursday lends itself to a challenge.

Bright told BBC Sport, “We had every reason to believe that we could turn things around.”

We knew we were only going to be ruthless because we were completely confident. A true Chelsea performance, to be sure. The supporters were incredible.

Everyone showing up and providing, according to the statement. “It’s all about the mentality, the belief, and everyone.”

With a strong first-half performance from Sandy Baltimore, Nathalie Bjorn, and Mayra Ramirez, Chelsea was far superior in every way.

They exerted a lot of pressure on City and came away with a decisive lead overall, but Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Ramirez missed more opportunities with Bjorn and Erin Cuthbert hitting the woodwork.

“This is the Chelsea that we know, and this is the Chelsea that does the work.” Eni Aluko, a former Blues striker, said, “It was about energy, hunger, and desire.”

The Champions League is the one that has failed them, according to the quadruple.

The players have worked hard for years to win the Champions League, even if they don’t do the quadruple.

Everything is possible in football, according to the saying.

Chelsea will have to defeat a Barca side in three of the previous four seasons in order for them to finally capture the Champions League.

On their way to bringing the trophy home, the Catalans defeated Chelsea 4-0 in the final of 2021 before winning the trophy with a 4-0 victory in the semi-finals of 2023 and 2024.

Bompastor’s painful experiences as Lyon manager and Barcelona will serve as additional motivation the following month.

Is this Chelsea’s year, though, after adding Naomi Girma and Keira Walsh to their squads?

Although, as you all know, Barcelona have a lot of experience and talent in the squad, Bompastor said, “We’ll do everything we can to make that happen.”

“Everything is possible in football.” We want to enjoy these two games first, because it wasn’t easy, but I’ll give it all the confidence we need.

Chelsea’s victory over City marked the conclusion of a thrilling four-game series that the two teams played in two weeks.

Following the bombshell about his drunken kiss with I’m A Celeb co-star Maura Higgins after the BRIT Awards earlier this month, Georgia Horsley has opened up about her “stressful” family life.

After her husband Danny Jones kissed Maura Higgins, Georgia Horsley revealed her “stressful” family life.

Danny Jones’ wife, Georgia Horsley, has shared an update on her “hectic” family life following her husband’s recent kiss with Maura Higgins. Earlier this month, Danny was filmed sharing a kiss with TV star Maura at a BRIT Awards after-party. This reportedly caused strain in his marriage to model and presenter Georgia, with whom he has a seven-year-old son, Cooper. Following the incident, Georgia briefly moved out to clear her head but has since returned to their West London home.

Without any indication of Danny, Georgia, who reportedly resides with close friend Rose Mahon, shared a video on social media with him today. The pair looked up in high spirits as they put on their PJs and sat on the floor in the video, which depicts a Kellogg’s advertisement. Georgia and Georgia also discussed home renovation plans.

The school run is always busy, not to mention Georgia’s house renovations, which Georgia added to the post. The only way to do brekkie right now is with easy brekkies that can be consumed “picnic style” on the bedroom floor.

Being out of the house and with her friend Rose Mahon was what she needed to clear her head. Her relationship with Danny was pushed to breaking point, and they are still trying to work out what they want.”

Georgia is anticipated to return to her Mum’s The Word as Danny, 38, prepares for a busy summer touring with McFly and Busted! A live performance at The Big Feastival in August is scheduled for soon.

Insiders claimed that the entire ordeal has been “embarrassing” for the mother-of-one, who tied the knot with Danny in 2014. “Danny and Georgia may still be married but they’re not together and she is working out what she wants to do,” an insider added.

She told Danny she needed to leave because she had been so badly hurt and embarrassed by everything. Since Wednesday, she has been residing with her friend Rose.

They added: “She is furious – not just with her husband’s actions, but with all the chaos this has brought to their lives, particularly for their young son Cooper.
