Mbappe wins European Golden Shoe for first time

Kylian Mbappe won the European Golden Shoe for the first time since scoring twice for Real Madrid in their 2-0 defeat of Real Sociedad on Saturday.

In his first season in Spain, the French international scored 31 league goals, earning him the La Liga title.

In Real’s final game of the year, Mbappe won the title with a double, beating out Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Sporting’s Victor Gyokeres (39 goals).

Because a weighted-points ranking system determines the rankings, Gyokeres finished second overall in the league despite scoring eight more goals than Mbappe.

Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 goals scored by players in Europe’s top five leagues are worth two points.

One point is exchanged for goals in Uefa’s rankings’ sixth to twenty-second leagues, including the Portuguese Primeira Liga, for goals scored in those leagues.

In Liverpool’s final Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Mohamed Salah and Mbappe both needed a hat-trick to share the trophy. In a 1-1 draw, the Egypt international scored once.

Mbappe is just the third Real player to win the award, after Hugo Sanchez (1989-90) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2010-11, 2013-14 and 2014-15).

Because Sporting’s league campaign ended the previous weekend, Gyokeres, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, had no chance to catch Mbappe.

The Sweden international finished the season with 53 goals in 51 games overall after scoring in his side’s 3-1 defeat of Lisbon rivals Benfica on Sunday.

‘Hit me with both barrels’ – TT team boss on cancer treatment

Dwayne McCracken

Dwayne McCracken is making the most of his new lease of life as a road racing team owner at the 2025 Isle of Man TT, just two years after being given six months to live.

The Northern Ireland man received the news that he had Stage 3 inoperable pancreatic cancer in June 2023, but after extensive treatment defied the doctors’ diagnosis and is now running the Lionheart Moto Racing team.

Belgian rider Julian Trummer has already ridden for the team at the Cookstown 100 and North West 200, before focusing on tackling the ultimate challenge of the TT Mountain Course.

“I went through a tough time with chemo and radiotherapy but thankfully I have come out the other side,” McCracken told BBC Sport NI.

“I’m 18 or 20 months down the line and I feel really, really good.

“That’s part of the motivation for this. I want people to see that you can come through a bit of a tough time and come out the other side.”

The Bangor man said his family provided him with all the incentive he needed to recover.

“I was told my prognosis wasn’t very good but in terms of treatment I just said ‘hit me with both barrels, I don’t care, I’ll take the pain, because I have a young family, I can’t be going anywhere’.

“The chemo regime that I was on was very strong and made me really sick but you have to have a focus and you have to have the end goal.

‘It’s a powerful song, very inspirational’

Dwayne’s long-time passion for and involvement in motorcycle racing inspired him to set up his team and the name ‘Lionheart’ evolved from listening to a particular song on the radio on his visits to hospital for treatment.

“Lionheart is a song by Joel Corry and Tom Grennan and every time I went for chemotherapy the song kept coming on the radio.

“My wife said to me, ‘that’s you’ and when you listen to it it’s quite a powerful song, it’s very inspirational. It just has a special meaning to me.”

Conversations with Trummer last summer led to them exploring the options of putting together a race team and also supporting the NIPANC charity which supports those affected by pancreatic cancer.

“It gives me a focus and a purpose, it gives me something to do and it’s a self medication because motorbikes are my passion.

“I also had the overwhelming urge to give back to the charity, to the people that helped me and my family.

‘Lucky to have worked with some of the best guys’

Dwayne McCracken

McCracken has received significant support from sponsors and is hoping for some positive results at the TT with Trummer on board.

“Julian’s a talented lad, he’s a very nice lad, and we’ve put together a fantastic team of mechanics.

“I feel the top 10 for us is a realistic goal, we have really good bikes, Kawasaki have helped us, so we’re in a good spot.”

“I built the bikes myself from my house and it’s a Northern Ireland team with a Northern Ireland sponsor so it’s quite humbling the support I’ve had. I’ve had a lot of people coming on board wanting to help and support us, which is just fantastic.”

Dwayne will draw on the experience of many years working with some of the biggest names in the sport, including 23-time TT winner John McGuinness.

“I’ve been really lucky to work with some of the best guys that there are.

“John McGuinness’s record at the TT goes before him but I was with him at the start whenever he got his first Superbike win, his first Senior win, on one of my bikes, so for me that was a real special moment and a real special time in my life.”

19 Killed, Eight Injured In Kogi Auto-Crash — FRSC

A fatal auto crash along the Lokoja-Obajana road in Kogi State occurred on Sunday, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday, resulting in no fewer than 19 fatal fatalities and eight injuries.

Kumar Tsukwam, the Corps’s state sector commander, confirmed this on Monday to Lokoja, the state capital, on the news.

Some of the survivors suffered burns, cuts, dislocations, fractures, and burns to the head, according to Tsukwam.

Around 4 p.m. on Sunday, he claimed, the fatal accident took place in the Gadabiu community along the Lokoja-Obajana road in the state’s Lokoja Local Government Area.

Read more about the injuries sustained by drunk driver Rams entering streetlights in Lagos.

He revealed that five children were among the 19 who were killed by burning.

An articulated vehicle (truck) and a Toyota Hummer bus traveling from the south to Abuja, according to him, were involved in the fatal collision.

He claimed that the bus was involved in a head-on collision when it attempted to overtake an articulated vehicle while moving forward, only to face an articulated vehicle ahead.

It was unfortunate because it involved 27 people, only eight of whom were killed, and was caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking.

The eight survivors were taken to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana, for immediate medical attention thanks to our rescue operation team and the police.

The highways were not race roads, according to the commander, who urged drivers to stop overtaking and speeding.

Zayn’s latest selfie comes after he was forced to reschedule his Mexican tour in March due to illness at the last minute. The singer had been scheduled to perform, but it became known that both he and his crew had been poisoned.

He declared, “I’m devastated to announce that I won’t be able to perform tonight in Mexico City.” My body has been making me feel really sick since this morning, despite all attempts to get past.

I’m sorry to let you down, I. It hurts greatly to miss this moment with you because of the love and energy fans always have for me. I appreciate your understanding, and I want to express my sincere love to each of you.

He added “Mexico” in a different post to his stories. Despite the fact that my crew and I both suffered severe food poisoning, I still love you. No joke, it’s still struggling. I apologize to all of my fans.

“These shows made me feel at home, alive, and happy, andamp; all because of you,” he said. Your enthusiasm for these shows, your fan projects, etc. gave me a feeling I can’t even describe but was full of love. The music producer continued, “Big love.”

Meanwhile, Zayn opened up about his daughter Khai, who he shares with Gigi Hadid’s ex-girlfriend last year. He said, “My daughter has restored that color in my life,” as he stated on the Zach Sang Show.

She simply cheers me up. Before she was born, I had no idea how much love I had in me. She has a full day of laughter. She gets so much excitement from it that she wants to do the most absurd things. She simply offers a whole new perspective on life that, in my opinion, has gotten a little gloomy.

She is a force of nature, Zayn continued. She has matured me. She has forced my sensibility to mature for her, to be this good, trustworthy role model who holds their word and keeps their work, and who also demonstrates that my word is bond.

Police Arrest Women For Stabbing Co-Wife To Death In Katsina

Following a violent domestic dispute in Daura town, Katsina North, the Katsina State Police Command has detained housewife Rabi’a Labaran, 25, who is accused of killing her co-wife Zainab Lawal, 30.

When a domestic dispute between the co-wives was suspected of going to a fatal confrontation, the tragic incident occurred on May 24, 2025, behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari Area of Daura town.

Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, stated in a statement on Sunday that the heated argument between the two women eventually led to a fatal altercation.

After the incident, Sadiq claimed that Nasir Yusuf, the husband, had reported to the Sabon Gari Division that he had returned from the market and discovered his first wife, Zainab Lawal ‘F’, who was 30 years old, lying in a pool of blood, claiming that she had been repeatedly stabbed with a knife.

He continued, adding that the DPO immediately dispatched a team of operatives to the scene and transported the victim to the Federal Medical Center in Daura for treatment. However, the doctor on duty declared her dead.

In connection with the offence, her co-wife, Labaran, 23, of the same address, was detained during the investigation. She acknowledged the offence’s commission, claiming that a disagreement with the deceased led to a tragic incident and a scuffle.

Bello Shehu, the state’s police commissioner, urged the public to abstain from using domestic violence and refrain from taking the law into their own hands as the investigation is advancing.

Tonic Football Club To Champion Nigeria’s Untapped Football Talent

In a bold move that will give emerging football stars a platform to shine, Cardtonic, a top fintech company in Africa, has established a football club in Nigeria.

Tonic Football Club, a community-based club founded in April 2025, was established to find and develop young football talent in the nation.

The initial birth of Cardtonic, a gift card marketplace, has since grown into a platform where Nigerians and Ghanais can purchase goods, purchase virtual dollars, pay bills, and make many other things.

The company has established itself as a major player in the African fintech sector thanks to its cutting-edge products and prompt service delivery.

In an effort to support the development of sports in Nigeria, Cardtonic has now entered the financial world and launched Tonic FC.

Nigeria’s abundance of talent is no gain for anything. Numerous exceptionally talented Nigerians are present everywhere, from entertainment to sports, technology, and the creative industry. The country’s African Best Player of the Year, Grammy Awards, and numerous other honors are among them.

But here’s the catch: many of these talents lack the support and platform to truly shine. Therefore, many rising stars never reach their full potential. Who knows how many of our nation’s lost to Victor Osimhens, Olamides, Pete Edochies, and P-Squares?

All hands must be on deck, including NGOs and businesses, to solve this issue.

With the launch of Tonic Football Club, Cardtonic is already setting the standard. Then perhaps Ademola Lookman’s successor won’t go unnoticed.

Tonic FC: A community-based football team

The vision behind Tonic FC is what sets it apart from the typical football teams you know.

From the streets of Lagos to the city of Kano, Tonic Football Club was established as a business venture. It was intended to foster hope for untapped football talent.

Many Nigerian football fans have since lost interest in grassroots football. The majority of people now follow local dreams, while others fade to Chelsea, Arsenal, or other foreign clubs.

Tonic FC was established to change that. It’s a grassroots talent discovery project that aims to rekindle our own game-playing passion. Young players now have a reason to dream once more, along with their supporters.

This football team’s objectives transcend stats, awards, and matchday hype. Impact is the key to Tonic FC. Its goal is to give young, rising footballers a real platform to showcase their abilities, changing their lives at the grassroots level.

Purpose over performance is not just a phrase around here; it’s culture.

Nigeria’s third-tier of professional football, Nationwide League One (NLO), is where Tonic Football Club is currently competing. The club is expected to transform the local football scene as a community-driven initiative with a strong foundation in grassroots involvement.

Tonic FC is on track to become Nigeria’s most active, purpose-driven football team, a place where creativity, culture, and football collide to make real impact both on and off the field.

Final Thoughts

Beyond football, Cardtonic’s partnership with Tonic FC is a bold move in bolstering the aspirations of young people in Nigeria. No matter what their background, they can also become the next Ademola Lookman, so it’s up to them.

Nigerians’ use of virtual dollar cards, gift cards, electronics, virtual currency, and bill payments all changed thanks to Cardtonic in just a few years.

With this bold move to the football industry, it will only take a few years for Tonic FC to become one of the nation’s most promising clubs.
