Leinster 13 (7)

In a festive United Rugby Championship match at Thomond Park, Leinster held on to defeat Munster 13-8.

In the sixth minute, Josh van der Flier added eight more points from Harry Byrne’s boot to secure the tightly contested victory. He scored the champions’ only try of the match.

Munster were back within five points after Dan Kelly’s try with 10 minutes remaining, but Leo Cullen’s men held on for the win.

Leinster have now won six games in a row in all competitions after losing three of their first four games in the 2025-26 campaign, including a 31-14 defeat by Munster in Croke Park in October.

Leinster’s dominance in the scrum was the main focus in the opening half, which only featured one try.

Munster couldn’t get past their opposing front row, who consistently used the set-piece to relieve pressure with the help of former Leinster player Michael Ala’alatoa, who appeared to struggle on their tight-head side.

Munster continued to enjoy a lot of territory but struggled with accuracy in the crunch despite those challenges.

A Mike Haley knock-on after a subpar Tom Farrell pass put an end to another attack, while Jack Crowley missed touch in what was generally a poor kicking display from those in red.

Leinster had a difficult time turning their own opportunities into opportunities, but Van der Flier’s early goal gave them a 7-0 lead into the break.

After one of those initial scrum penalties, Ronan Kelleher found Caelan Doris from the line-out and the visitors turned around.

When the back row peeled off the back and ran past Craig Casey’s tackle to score, there was no stopping Van der Flier.

Harry Byrne and Crowley traded penalties a quarter of an hour after the restart in what remained a disjointed and low-scoring game after the break.

Byrne scored three more points with the boot as the quarter came to a close, but it became apparent that the game was getting more and more disjointed as both teams turned their benches.

In the closing moments of the match, substitute centre Dan Kelly’s try in the 70th minute gave way to a stirring finish, but Munster were unable to break through the Leinster defense for the telling score.

Given the lack of attacking potential on display, it was a fitting conclusion to such a contest, despite the game’s lack of intensity or ferocity.

Scarlett Moffatt rules out having more children after ‘soul-destroying’ miscarriage

The Gogglebox star and her partner Scott Dobinson gave birth to their son Jude in June 2023.

Scarlett Moffatt has made an open letter about her decision to stop having children.

The Gogglebox star explained that her and partner Scott Dobinson were “really excited” when they learned that their second child, Jude, would be born in 2023, was due.

However, Scarlett sadly miscarried, which she sadly described as “soul-destructing.” Since then, the couple has made the decision to focus on enjoying their son rather than trying to get another child.

Scarlett also described her struggle to conceive Jude as “three and a bit years.”

She shared a statement with The Sun, saying, “I just don’t think I can handle the heartache any more. I was lying in bed with Scott one day.” We should stop, in my opinion. Let’s enjoy Jude because we have him.

You mourn both the loss of that and the life you imagined, she continued.

Scarlett’s admission comes after she was crowned winner of the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

Scarlett, 35, said: “This is amazing! This is amazing! I believe I should have given a speech a thought! The best gift that could have been given at Christmas, in my opinion. We’ve all just had the best time,” he continued.

Vito Coppola, the former Googlebox star, and the I’m A Celebrity jungle queen, also won. Scarlett said in a statement to the Mirror before the special was scheduled to air: “I couldn’t believe my luck when I was paired with Vito.

I wanted him a lot! Vito would be my favorite, I kept telling myself. I’m so appreciative of the show’s opportunity to play a small part in such a significant institution. The pair performed their Cha Cha to DJ Play A Christmas Song by Cher, earning a perfect 40 from the judges, with her intuition.

We just laugh so hard together, Scarlett continued, “It seems like we’ve known him for ten years.” The best part is that it is called “Strictly.” The actor, who has son Jude, 2, and fiance Scott Dobinson, also performs regularly. She began dancing as a child, and she later developed into a proficient ballroom and Latin dancer, even studying with Strictly judge Anton Du Beke.

Scarlett was crowned British Ballroom Champion at age 16 and continued competing in the finals until she was 21. This is not a new experience for her. She remarked, “Strictly reignited the fire inside of me, reminding me of my love of dancing. I’ll undoubtedly keep doing it even after I’ve fallen in love with it. I’m so happy about it.

Scarlett also mentioned her joy before the episode about being able to travel on Strictly. She uploaded a video montage to Instagram that included excerpts from her Strictly with Coppola training videos and footage from her early dancing lessons.

Scarlett said, “I know I’ll probably never be able to dance on the main Strictly series because I was a young girl, so it means a lot to me to be a part of the Christmas special.” One of those wishes you make quietly but never really expect to fulfill is dancing on the Strictly Christmas Special on Christmas Day, which evokes a true bucket-list moment.

Six celebrities joined the dancefloor at the event, including comedians Babatunde Aléshé and Nancy Xu, singer Brian McFadden and Michelle Tsiakkas, Gladiators’ Jodie Ounsley (Fury) and Neil Jones, All Saints’ Melanie Blatt and Kai Widdrington, and EastEnders’ Nicholas Bailey and Luba Mushtuk.

Iran president says US, Israel, Europe waging ‘full-fledged war’ on country

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian claims that his nation is being “fully fought” by the United States, Israel, and Europe.

We are, in my opinion, engaged in a full-fledged conflict with America, Israel, and Europe. In an interview on Saturday, Pezeshkian stated to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s official website that “they do not want our country to stand on its feet.”

Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday comes ahead of the president’s remarks. Six months after Israel and the US launched strikes against Iran and France, Germany, and the United Kingdom reinstituted UN sanctions against Iran for its nuclear program, they follow.

Our beloved military forces are performing their duties with strength, and they are now stronger in terms of equipment and personnel than when Israel and the US attacked, according to Pezeshkian.

So they will naturally face a more determined response if they want to attack.

The president claimed that “this war” is unique compared to earlier ones.

“This war is worse than Iraq’s war against us,” he said. This war is much more complex and challenging than that conflict, according to Pezeshkian, who cited the conflict between the neighbors in 1980 and 1988, when thousands of people were killed.

Iran has repeatedly refuted claims that the US and its allies have been trying to acquire nuclear weapons.

In June, Israel and Iran engaged in a 12-day conflict that was sparked by an unprecedented Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear and military installations as well as civilian locations.

More than 1, 000 people were killed in the strikes, according to Iranian authorities.

Three Iranian nuclear sites were later bombed by the US and Israel.

Tehran’s nuclear program negotiations, which began in April, came to an end as a result of Washington’s involvement.

US President Donald Trump has reinvigorated his first-term “maximum pressure” policy against Iran since returning to the White House in January.

That also included additional sanctions designed to devalue the nation’s oil revenues from sales on the global market and cause it to suffer economically.

Villa have been here before – but are they really in title race?

Fans of Aston Villa think so. The Villa players appear to believe in it. Unai Emery will never confirm his belief.

However, one thing is undisputed: Aston Villa must now be viewed as a contender for the title in the Premier League.

Emery questioned whether Villa could face the most wacky of bats, saying, “Not really. We are strong in our battle. We are currently third in the league, trailing only Manchester City and Arsenal. Wow”.

Wow, indeed.

Emery demonstrated that he is also an expert at managing expectations and strategy.

Six minutes from time, Villa won 2-1 thanks to substitute Ollie Watkins’ header, before the deafening songs of belief rang around Stamford Bridge.

However, the evidence is compelling:

Emery may sway title talk, but his Villa and Midas touch, which match winner Watkins described his manager as a “tactical genius,” puts them at the center of the conversation.

On Tuesday, December 30th (20:15 GMT), Villa will face league leaders Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, but Emery has a habit of making life difficult for his former club.

He leaves Villa just three points off the top of the table and just one point behind Manchester City, making it three points clear of the competition after missing out on this term’s competition on the final day of the previous campaign.

After losing any of their first five league games, Villa would have accepted with gratitude that they are now 10 points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea. This is another significant development.

Emery resurrected his pedigree by galvanising a stuttering Villa display just before the hour when Joao Pedro’s messy 37th-minute goal, the striker volleying home Reece James’ corner, was the only goalkeeper.

Emery sent Watkins, Amadou Onana, and Jadon Sancho for Donyell Malen, John McGinn, and Emiliano Buendia with Villa going nowhere and the game still in the balance.

Watkins scored the winner with a header after four minutes, and the impact was stunning.

What data are gathered from this quiz?

Watkins spearheaded Villa’s Renaissance, coming off the bench with a fierce intent to captivate the visiting fans in their corner of Stamford Bridge.

Emery praised Watkins as “mature and a very important player,” setting the stage for the perfect example by letting go of any disappointment he might have experienced when he was substituted to punish Chelsea when he started playing.

The 29-year-old former Brentford striker has scored just three Premier League goals so far this season.

Former England captain Wayne Rooney, who works as a pundit on Match of the Day, said, “It’s been a difficult season for him.” However, he appeared to be very sharp right away and had a top-notch energy and movement.

Although “players don’t like coming off the bench,” he has a fantastic response.

Villa could yet defy his own belief that they will not win the title, according to Alan Shearer, who mentioned the Emery factor.

You have to say that Aston Villa are legitimate title contenders as we approach the halfway point, according to Shearer, a Match of the Day pundit.

Do you believe they’ll prevail? No, but that’s just because their squad’s depth is lacking. However, Unai Emery allows for anything.

His three subs at Stamford Bridge demonstrate his mastery of game management. Although they didn’t play in the first half, Ollie Watkins, Jadon Sancho, and Amadou Onana’s introduction provided a new perspective.

“His team simply isn’t aware of how bad they are.”

“Where would they be today if their start had not been so terrible? It’s quite amazing to imagine where they were five games into this club-record run. Emery will enjoy them now that they are 10 points clear of fifth. What they are accomplishing is fantastic for the Premier League.

What a game is going to be when they travel to the Emirates next.

Villa’s performances are begging for him, even though Emery is not even interested in whispering it.

Wayne Lineker ‘fully recovered’ after spending Christmas Day in hospital with pneumonia

After being taken to the hospital for treatment for his second bout of severe pneumonia, Wayne Lineker has been sharing news with fans about his health.

After another severe bout of pneumonia, Wayne Lineker spent Christmas Day in the hospital. He is now back. The entrepreneur described it as “the toughest six weeks of my life,” keeping his patients informed from his hospital bed.

Taking to Instagram, Wayne – who initially thought he’d go home on Boxing Day after completing his course of antibiotics – said he’d endured “7 weeks of misery” but was now “fully recovered”.

One month after his initial illness, the star was taken to the hospital last week. As they embraced the holiday spirit, Wayne was captured surrounded by nurses in an Instagram post.

In the photo, Wayne was dressed in a red and white striped pair of pyjamas and wore a fluffy Santa hat on his head. He wrote: “Merry Christmas everyone love from me and all the girls at the Bursted ward Basildon Hospital. Christmas tunes are on!! Been video calling my family too.”

In a different post, he stated, “I have won pneumonia!!” I’ll return home on Boxing Day after what will undoubtedly be my toughest six weeks. Unfortunately, I will be in the hospital on Christmas Day with two days left until my IV antibiotics are finished. but very content.

“Thank you to Basildon Hospital’s amazing doctors and nurses. Wayne also confirmed that his condition had nearly led to his death and that an operation on his lung had been required to lessen the agonizing pain he was experiencing.

When Wayne’s condition turned out to be worse, he was forced to be taken back to the hospital while his son Sean was watching him. At the time, he posted the following update on social media: “PNEUMONIA UPDATE.

“Unfortunately, I was only home for four days before I had a serious second attack after being released from the hospital last week with antibiotics and additional medication.” My son @seanlineker1 took me back to the hospital while I was being cared for at home, and I appreciate that he was there.

Wayne also described how his immune system was hampered as he “stopped drinking alcohol” and entered rehab earlier this year.

He had previously stated that “the doctors are now looking into why the antibiotics haven’t been fully effective and that I still have pneumonia.” Numerous scans and blood tests have revealed positive outcomes for me, with more to come.

The good news is that it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with my heart and is more likely to do with my immune system, which hasn’t changed since I stopped drinking alcohol. Despite making such a drastic lifestyle change, I had numerous infections while in rehab, but now that I’m almost six months sober, this still seems to be a significant factor. I’ll receive a potent course of antibiotics and steroids via drip if this is confirmed.

“I’m now beginning to think that I’ll spend Christmas in the hospital, but I’ve come to terms with it, and I’ll stay there until I’m completely recovered.” Thank you all so much for your love, which truly signifies “being positive” and “pneumonia”
