Laura Woods appeared to be drowsy during her time leading England’s friendly against Ghana on Tuesday in Southampton.

After Woods’ arrest, ITV cut an advert break following her arrest by pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante.

Katie Shanahan, a coworker, confirmed that Woods had been “taken ill” when the coverage returned.

“I’m stepping in at late notice because we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she’s just taken ill,” said Shanahan.

Woods regularly appears on ITV and TNT Sports on both men’s and women’s football.

She has also appeared on Talksport on radio.

Costco sues Trump administration for US tariff refund

Before the US Supreme Court weighs in on the legality of tariffs, Costco has filed a lawsuit against the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit also calls for the imposition of import duties to be blocked.

Due to the December 15 deadline for refunding taxes that have already been paid, Costco claimed that the tariffs must be resolved right away. The lawsuit claims that US Customs and Border Protection refused to grant the company’s request for an extension of the deadline.

Costco did not specify how much money it thinks should be reimbursed.

According to the lawsuit, “Importers who have paid IEEPA duties, including Plaintiff, are not guaranteed a refund for those unlawfully collected tariffs in the absence of their own judgment and judicial relief.”

Costco is also asking for a pause in future collections, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in the US Court of International Trade.

According to the lawsuit, “Plaintiff seeks relief from the impending liquidations to ensure that its right to a full refund is not threatened.”

The wholesale warehouse giant joins other large corporations in bringing legal action against the administration, including Revlon and Ray-Ban, which produce eyeglasses. Crowell &amp, Moring, a law firm, represents Costco. The organization declined to comment on Al Jazeera’s request.

According to Gregory Shaffer, professor of international law at Georgetown University School of Law, “They are filing within the statutory deadline in order to receive the]refunds] for the tariffs that were [allegedly]collected illegally.”

According to Shaffer, businesses have 180 days to file a lawsuit over the liquidation or the owed funds.

The final, official calculation and assessment of the duties, taxes, and fees owed on imported goods are the “liquidation of tariffs.”

The lawsuit has been withdrawn by the White House.

This lawsuit highlights the enormous economic repercussions of President Trump’s lawful tariffs, according to the lawsuit. In a written statement to Al Jazeera, White House spokesman Kush Desai stated that the White House anticipates the Supreme Court’s swift and appropriate resolution of this dispute.

The looming Supreme Court decision

The Supreme Court is considering whether the IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) grants the White House the authority to impose tariffs.

In the event of a national emergency, the law gives the US president the authority to impose restrictions on imports. Trump’s tariffs have largely raised questions about whether they adhere to those requirements. As justices heard arguments&nbsp nearly a month ago in early November, a decision is looming with an uncertain date.

According to Shaffer, there is a good chance that the court will rule in favor of the Trump administration.

According to Shaffer, “I got the impression that Justice Gorsuch would vote against, given his concerns,” referring to Supreme Court associate justice Neil Gorsuch, who was appointed by Trump during his first term as president.

The questioning raises the possibility that the choice will be made against the Trump administration.

Gorsuch objected to the administration’s interpretation of the IEEPA in oral arguments at the November hearing.

According to Gorsuch, “Congress can’t, in reality, give this power back once it’s been given to the president.”

It’s a one-way ratchet toward the executive branch’s gradual but permanent expansion of power away from the electorates of the people.

McMillan wins 400m gold for GB as Wiffen takes bronze

Daniel Wiffen of Ireland placed third in the men’s 400-meter freestyle competition held in Poland by Jack McMillan of Great Britain.

Lukas Martens, a German swimmer, won the gold medal ahead of McMillan, who was also an Olympic and world champion in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.

In his first game since having an appendix removed in August, Wiffen won the bronze medal for Ireland.

The Olympic and 800-meter freestyle champion had to settle for third place in the final to finish in third place overall.

“I’m really happy, man, really.” It’s amazing to be back on the podium after going that long away from the water, having surgery, coming back, being at my best again, and all the other stuff moving toward California,” Wiffen said after the race.

Because we were so close, but it was a great race, I was devastated that I passed away.

After leaving Loughborough University’s program, Wiffen announced earlier this year that he intends to spend a lot of his time training in California.

McMillan won the race on Tuesday by just 0.18 seconds, while Wiffen was just 0.69 seconds ahead of his former teammate.

McMillan, a native of Northern Ireland, previously represented Ireland in 2022 when he switched to swim.

He won a repeat at the World Championships in Singapore in July after lifting Team GB to gold at the men’s 4x200m freestyle at the Olympics in Paris.

Duncan Scott of Great Britain placed seventh in the tight final on Tuesday.

Wiffen will compete in the 800-meter heat on Friday and will return to the pool on Wednesday for the 1500-meter heats.

McMillan will aim to increase his 400-meter winning streak on Friday when he competes in the 200-meter heats on Wednesday and the 100-meter heats on Friday.

Alleged $4.5bn Fraud: Emefiele’s Co-Defendant Omoile Not Forced To Make Statements – EFCC

The former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Omoile, voluntarily made his statements during the $4.5 billion fraud trial of the duo, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Omoile is charged with unlawful acceptance of gifts, while Emefiele is on trial for a 19-count charge that resembles gratification and corrupt demands. Both defendants entered not guilty pleas.

Alvan Gurumnaan, an EFCC operative, who took the witness box, claimed no officer of the Commission coerced the defendant into making any statements in a trial-within-trial to determine the voluntariness of Omoile’s statements.

Under duress, the second defendant did not make any statements. He told the court that our officers don’t use intimidation or force statements.

The defendant is now responsible for providing proof when an allegation of duress is made, he added.

On October 9, 2025, the prosecutor’s office, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), requested that Omoile’s extrajudicial statements be presented in evidence at the court’s final sitting.

Adeyinka Kotoye, the defense attorney, objected, arguing that the statements were not made on a voluntary basis. A trial-within-trial was later ordered by Justice Rahman Oshodi.

In Block A of the Lagos Directorate, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Gurumnaan, a former member of the Special Operations Unit of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Command, narrated how Omoile delivered the statements.

He referred to the space as a sizable, open conference room that the Special Operations Team frequently uses.

The defendant was accompanied by the Acting Managing Director of NIBSS and his attorney, Mr. E. N. Offiong, on February 26, 2024, and the witness claimed he found Omoile’s objection surprising.

“The statements were made in full confidence. He said, “There is no way we could have done that without being threatened.”

Exhibits 1 to 4 include four statements, three of which were dated February 26, 2024, and one that was dated February 27, 2024.

Gurumnaan made sure Omoile was present when he made them.

He claimed that Mr. Azeez Ajigbotosho, a different team member, gave the defendant a proper warning before making his statements.

The second defendant also signed the statements. He even said, “I am making this statement in Offiong’s presence,” he continued.

The witness insisted that Offiong was present both days and that the EFCC visitors’ register was presented as supporting evidence even though one of the statements did not specifically mention the lawyer’s presence.

No video recording of the statement taking was made, and the lawyer’s signature was not included in the statement, despite it being a part of the EFCC’s standard practice, according to Gurumnaan, who was cross-examined by the defense counsel, Olalekan Ojo and Kotoye.

He explained that some operational circumstances occasionally prevent video recording.
