Newcastle want to be ‘top club in world’ by 2030

The year is 2030.

Newcastle United are “perennial contenders” competing for the biggest prize money in the game and “in the debate about being the best club in the world.”

David Hopkinson, who recently took over as Newcastle’s new chief executive, has a bold five-year vision.

The Canadian remarked in a nutshell, “That kind of progress doesn’t take as long as you might think.”

“First of all, we need to be completely congruent about what we want to do.”

We must have the guts to reject those who doubt us and even those who make fun of us. since there will be some.

Given that Newcastle are currently in 12th place in the Premier League, Hopkinson’s scepticism is not in question, but Hopkinson’s perspective is that he is “constructing an organization whose sole purpose is to win” is in question.

Prior to joining Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Hopkinson oversaw the commercial operations of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors.

The Raptors lost in the woods in 2014, according to Hopkinson, before coming out with the NBA championship for the first time just five years later.

Although there may not be the same level of play-offs as there are in basketball, Hopkinson believes Newcastle are at the center of the “most transformational opportunity” in sport.

Even though this is obviously a very different ball game, the 54-year-old has never shied away from a bold time-frame.

bridging a significant revenue gap

Even if Hopkinson describes head coach Eddie Howe as a “special “manager,” it is obvious that a dramatic change won’t occur overnight.

Since he first came in contact with the club’s owners in September, Hopkinson has completed an in-depth review and submitted a transformation plan with carefully-guarded milestones for each of the upcoming seasons. He is the first to acknowledge that there is “a lot of work to do.”

Newcastle’s revenues are projected to increase to more than $ 400 million, which is a significant increase over the £140 million mark posted in 2021.

However, they still have a huge gap to close, like Manchester City, which made £715 million in revenue a few seasons ago.

In accordance with the financial regulations in 2023-2024, this allowed Manchester City to spend nearly $ 200 million on wages, and historically, the teams with the highest salary packages have historically had the tendency to earn the most points in the league.

Therefore, Hopkinson’s main concern will be finding a way to boost revenue, as he previously held the positions of president of Madison Square Garden Sports and, perhaps most pertinently, as Real Madrid’s head of global partnerships.

As the club’s chief transformation officer, who worked alongside Hopkinson at Real Madrid, Michael Sutherland claimed that the executive “created a lot more structure and a more professional approach to the sponsorship process.”

You could say “It’s Real Madrid,” he said. Who wouldn’t want to sponsor the club, which is the simplest role in the world? “he said”. However, it causes a different issue.

If Real Madrid don’t have a good season and don’t win a championship, you’re basically selling the idea of belonging to the best club in the world, which has a significant impact on your value proposition to sponsors.

Manchester City “were able to get there earlier”

Newcastle has potential for growth.

Although there are gaps in important senior positions in Newcastle despite the fact that the number of employees has increased to more than 550 staff members in recent years.

The club is far behind its rivals in terms of both its digital and data components, both of which require significant improvement.

Hopkinson has also cited “less obvious opportunities” with international partners, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and businesses connected to Newcastle’s majority owners.

Top flight executives once expressed a real concern that Newcastle might negotiate incredibly lucrative sponsorship deals with Saudi Arabian businesses through the PIF.

Five days after the takeover in 2021, a senior figure from another country even requested that a vote be held to implement a short-term ban on related-party transactions be made in order to contact the Premier League on behalf of his club and ten others.

The majority of top-flight clubs later approved the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules to ensure that deals were fair market value.

As a result, this was always going to be a more gradual build, according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire.

Manchester City were able to enter the stadium earlier than associated party transactions, when there were no stringent requirements and hoops to be covered before a sponsorship contract could be signed, he claimed.

“We have to keep raising the bar.”

Of course, there are other ways to increase long-term revenue.

Last but not least, match day income.

However, regardless of whether the ground is renovated or a new one constructed, there is still uncertainty about the future of St James’ Park, and Hopkinson acknowledged that the club will remain there in its present form for “many years.”

He said, “We’re modeling a number of different scenarios.” However, it still requires years of planning, funding, construction, etc. if we had to decide tomorrow, which we weren’t going to do. Whatever we decide, that’s the case.

Evidently, there must be some significant decisions to be made regarding the overall infrastructure.

Work is being done, according to Nottingham Forest’s sporting director Ross Wilson, who followed Hopkinson through the door.

However, the club is aware of the restrictions on the Benton site and is also looking to make a significant investment to construct a brand-new, state-of-the-art training facility elsewhere.

It perfectly sums up the unfathomable task Newcastle will face across the board to eventually defeat the elite.

With only one game left, Samuel Lino, the club’s record signing, scored the only goal of the game against Ceara to keep Flamengo’s now unassailable five-point lead over Palmeiras in Serie A.

The newly crowned champions won the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday in Lima, Peru, with a 1-0 victory.

The Brazilian side completed the Serie A-Copa Libertadores double in 2019 only to join them as the fifth Brazilian side in history.

The players will realize what they have accomplished, according to Flamengo coach Filipe Luis. They “are eternal”!

Botafogo led the double in 1962 and 1963 under the leadership of Pele, and Botafogo led it last year.

In addition, Neymar scored a hat-trick for Santos in their 3-0 victory over Juventude, helping the Sao Paulo-based club avoid falling to the bottom.

With one match left, Santos could still take second place against Cruzeiro, who is just two points clear of the bottom four relegation spots.

Flamengo can still earn a treble by winning the Intercontinental Cup, but the season is not over.

The Carioca club will face Mexican team Cruz Azul on Wednesday of the following week before the winner of that match will travel to Cairo, Africa’s Pyramids, to qualify for the December 17 final against Paris Saint-Germain in Doha.

Ruth Langsford’s U-turn on Loose Women as she admits decision left son ‘fuming’

Ruth Langsford, the Loose Women actress, has previously admitted to being confronted by her son after recalling an embarrassing situation in a previous relationship.

Ruth Langsford has revealed that she now thinks carefully before mentioning her son Jack on Loose Women, after one moment left him “fuming”. The 65-year-old presenter is a regular panellist on the ITV lunchtime show, where the stars often chat about their personal lives, from family dynamics to relationship ups and downs.

Ruth explained why a personal family incident once sparked tension with her 23-year-old son despite the show’s desire for openness.

She told Woman & Home Magazine: “It’s dangerous because sometimes we forget we’re on TV. You have to be careful talking about your children and I was always very mindful of Jack.

He was upset when I showed him a photo when he was 14 because I hadn’t asked him. Learning from this.

Ruth has previously discussed embarrassing her son. She opened up earlier this year about the realization that she no longer a cool mother.

She said, “When they are young, they adore you, they love you, and they want to be around you forever,” in a podcast interview.

“Jack and I are very close,” Jack said. I used to sing and sing like the wrong lyrics and pronounce the group’s name incorrectly because I thought my mother was really fun.

I thought Jack found me amusing, was he right? And then he thought I was funny because we were in the supermarket.

However, she recalled that when her antics were no longer funny to him, she was like, “Twizzle Sticks, Jack!” and then suddenly, it happened.

He literally resembled [squirming] “Mum!” and then it suddenly occurs, and you get the message, “Oh, he doesn’t find me amusing anymore,” and no, no, no!

Ruth’s only child, Eamonn Holmes, and Jack are her ex-husband’s children.

The presenter claimed in her most recent interview that she is still going to therapy to help her through the adjustment but is now content on her own after discussing their split.

Since the breakup, Ruth has spent more time with her friends, including her “TV son,” Rylan Clark, and putting pen to paper on her upcoming book, which will examine both the “good, happy, bad, and] sad” times of her life.

As Loose Women makes significant changes, her personal project comes to mind. The show will start airing for 30 weeks of the year as part of ITV’s scheduling change, starting in January 2026.

No future panelists are anticipated to lose their seats on the show despite the change.

Strictly star says ‘it’s a miracle I’m alive’ after dropping out of show

A former Strictly star has admitted they feel lucky to be alive after undergoing major surgery before pulling out of the BBC dance competition

A Strictly star has confessed they are lucky to be alive after needing emergency surgery during their stint on the show.

Peep Show actor Robert Webb had to drop out of the popular BBC dance contest with Dianne Buswell just days ahead of the fourth live show in 2021.

At the time the dance duo shared a statement to announce their exit. They explained they had to step back due to health issues following Robert’s major heart surgery. The op came just a year before his appearance on the contest. It came after doctors found the star had a congenital heart defect.

And now he’s revealed how he feels blessed to still be alive after his health woes. “I very nearly died,” he said at the Rose D’Or Awards recently. “And yet I made a full recovery and so that is an amazing gift, to have got that close but to come out of it with a normal life expectancy and normal everything else.”

He went on: “It was amazing and every now and again when things bum me out slightly I can look out of the window and remember that it is a beautiful miracle to be alive. It’s a really good thing.”

Robert added he feels as though, looking back, he took on the Strictly opportunity too soon. Describing it as “challenging”, he said he was a “bit optimistic” to be trying such a feat after just a year and a half in recovery.

“It was a positive experience but my body just wasn’t ready for it at all,” he admitted. “Strictly was my bungy jump. I was like, okay I’ve got this whole new body, let’s take it out for a spin and see what it can do.”

And despite enjoying the experience, he is keen to draw a line under the moment. He admits he won’t be returning to give it another go despite having made a full recovery.

He previously told The Times his thought process about accepting the opportunity in the first place. He explained: “Well, these opportunities don’t come along very often. They don’t happen to everyone.

“And I’d just nearly died, so I thought, this is no time to be sitting on the edges, why don’t you contribute and participate? It all sounded like a good idea at the time. But it all added up to a big mistake. On paper I was in quite good shape, but then that schedule just hit me like a sack of dancing potatoes.

“That schedule is a law unto itself and I just wasn’t anywhere close to being able to do that. I don’t even know if I could now. I don’t think it’d be a very good idea. Also, I just couldn’t remember the moves.”

The star previously opened up candidly about his struggles with alcohol. He admitted he felt like he was “slow killing” himself due to excessive drinking which led to addiction.

He also confessed that his surgery changed his outlook on life helped improve his marriage. He said in 2023: “We had been in couple’s therapy previously because of my daytime drinking.

“So the surgery changed a lot. It was really the best thing that could have happened to me.

Hearn keen on Windsor Park return for Crocker

Images courtesy of Getty

Eddie Hearn, the IBF welterweight champion’s promoter, has confirmed that his first title defense will likely take place at Windsor Park during a “big outdoor event.”

With a split-decision victory over Limerick’s Paddy Donovan, Crocker won the title at Northern Ireland’s home ground in September.

Following their first fight in March and September’s defeat, Donovan will travel to Brisbane to face Australia’s Liam Paro in a final eliminator for the mandatory position on January 16 when he faces them in a final eliminator.

Hearn confirmed that another big night in Belfast is planned, and last week BBC Sport NI reported that Crocker’s return would likely take place at Windsor Park on April 11 as the likely date and location.

Hearn told Ring Magazine, “We are working with the government there for another significant outdoor event.”

Lewis has performed extremely well, and he should return to Belfast in a major fight as a world champion.

Conor Benn, who lost his middleweight rematch with Chris Eubank Jr. last month, has consistently vowed to fight Crocker.

The Londoner, who intends to return to welterweight, has not yet demonstrated his similar desire to defeat Crocker as he attempts to appoint his father, Nigel, a former world champion at middleweight and supermiddleweight, by capturing the WBC belt.

Mario Barrios of Mexico holds the title of 147lbs, and he looks likely to defend it against Ryan Garcia in the upcoming WBC convention. Benn will be the only one to face the winner during the week’s WBC convention.

Conor Benn is just obsessed with the WBC world title, according to Hearn, who occasionally feels his name is not mentioned in relation to Conor Benn.

He simply wants to win the green and gold medallion, according to “he doesn’t really talk about] Rolando Romero or]Devin Haney.”
