‘Nightmare’ Shaw’s remarkable 100 goals for Man City

If Khadija Shaw had not already confirmed her status as one of the world’s best players, she surely did on Sunday.

The Manchester City striker netted four goals in their ruthless 6-1 win over Aston Villa, extending their lead at the top of the WSL table to six points.

In the process, Shaw notched her 100th goal for the club – the first female player in the professional era to reach a century for City in all competitions.

She was feted at full-time by supporters, staff and team-mates as the Jamaican international gave a nod to the victims of Hurricane Melissa in her post-match interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, which killed at least 28 people in her home country.

“Coming into this game, I knew that if I scored it would have been a really good milestone for me,” an emotional Shaw told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“The beginning of the year was a bit challenging. Even a couple of weeks ago with what happened back home [in Jamaica], mentally, it was tough.

Talks to extend Shaw contract

Shaw’s achievement is nothing short of remarkable given she reached the landmark in just 120 games in all competitions.

In her past four WSL matches, she has picked up eight goals and two assists, and has a 1.11 goals-per-game rate this season in the league.

The 28-year-old leads the WSL top-scorers chart by seven goals, with her nearest competitors on five goals each, and Shaw has netted as many as Liverpool have in total this season.

“Scoring goals for fun, best centre-forward in the land,” are the words that make up City fans’ song about her, often chanted in adoration of their number nine.

They stayed behind at Joie Stadium on Sunday to show their appreciation, giving her a standing ovation as the club congratulated her formally at full-time.

A video was played on the big screens – a compilation of messages from sporting stars including legendary Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt – who also shared a message on X later on Sunday – ex-England striker Ian Wright and former Manchester City favourites Steph Houghton and Jill Scott.

“Manchester is my home,” Shaw said in the microphone, prompting a huge roar from fans and manager Andree Jeglertz confirmed afterwards the club are in discussions with her over a potential new deal with her current contract ending in July 2026.

“It’s amazing. I’m so happy for her of course, but also for this club, to have her in this environment and in our team. She is affecting things,” added Jeglertz.

“She has a big role but is also a great team-mate. She knows it’s not just about her scoring goals. The assists have to come from somebody.

“She is working every day to become a little bit better and that is the most important thing in this job – that she is never satisfied.

‘She’s got all the attributes you want’

There was very little Villa could do on the day to stop Shaw and manager Natalia Arroyo admitted afterwards the Jamaican striker was a “nightmare” to play against.

Shaw had 13 touches in the opposition box and five shots on target – scoring four of them and hitting the post with an audacious curling effort in the second half.

Even in defeat, Arroyo admitted she was “privileged” to face such a challenge.

“She is the best striker in the league probably,” added the Villa boss. “The energy you can see from the team is different from last year. All of that is quite visible on her.

“She was a nightmare for us. She knows where to be for the second balls and the first action. We tried to minimise her impact but we couldn’t. She is too good.

“How she is growing and how consistent she is being… she scores a lot of goals. I’m just sad that she’s adding goals to her list against us!

“It’s a privilege for me to be around these challenges and to try to find the best way to minimise her next time as we couldn’t do that today.”

Former England defender Lindsay Johnson described Shaw’s performance as “high class” and praised her versatility.

Her first goal was a first-time strike into the bottom corner from Vivianne Miedema’s cross, before she spun away from Anna Patten to make it 2-0.

The third goal late in the second half was a clinical finish when she burst through one-on-one with goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo and then found herself in the right place at the right time to tap in City’s sixth goal, and her fourth, in stoppage time.

“It’s so difficult because you can’t get too tight to her as she rolls you. She’s so good at using her body. You’ve got to give yourself some space,” Johnson said on BBC Radio 5 Live commentary.

“She’s got all the attributes you want in a striker. She’s got power, she’s got pace and she’s very clinical.

Person Of Interest In Custody After Deadly Shooting At US University

US authorities on Sunday detained a person of interest in a shooting at Brown University that left two people dead and nine others wounded, the latest in a long line of school attacks across the country.

A shooter opened fire on Saturday at the elite Ivy League university in Providence, Rhode Island in a building where exams were taking place, triggering a campus lockdown and launching an hours-long hunt for the suspect.

During a press conference early Sunday, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said a “person of interest” had been detained and the shelter-in-place order lifted.

“I want to offer my profound thanks to all the hardworking men and women in law enforcement who worked through the night to be able to get us to this point,” Smiley said.

Speaking alongside him, Police Colonel Oscar Perez added authorities were “not at this point” looking for anyone else in relation to the attack.

Of the nine wounded, one is in critical condition, seven are in stable condition and one has been discharged, Smiley said.

Witness Katie Sun told the Brown Daily Herald student newspaper she was studying in a building on campus when she heard gunfire nearby. She ran to her dormitory, leaving all her belongings behind.

“It was honestly quite terrifying. The shots seemed like they were coming from where the classrooms are,” she said.

Brown University student Lydell Dyer was working in the school’s gym at the time, according to CNN.

“We had to go gather everybody, bring them up to the top floor, turn off the lights, and put down the blinds,” he told the broadcaster, saying he hid silently in the dark with 154 others.

Police released 10 seconds of footage of the suspect, seen from behind, walking briskly down a deserted street after opening fire inside a first-floor classroom.

“It is shocking and so terribly sad. I know the students here, many of whom were sheltering for many, many hours last night,” Smiley said later on CNN. “They’re all incredibly shaken up.”

Final exams scheduled for Sunday have been postponed, university officials said.

Brown University President Christina Paxson confirmed in a letter to community members that all 11 victims were students.

“Nine members of our community who were transported to local hospitals are all students. And we lost two students to today’s devastating gun violence,” Paxson said in the letter posted to the school’s website.

The attack is the latest incident of mass shooting in a country where attempts to restrict access to firearms face political deadlock.

“This should not be normal,” Smiley said on CNN. “This should not be the case that every community needs to prepare for something like this to happen. And I certainly never thought that it would actually happen in Providence, although we were well prepared for it.”

There have been more than 300 mass shootings in the United States so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as four or more people shot.

Brown, which has a student body of about 11,000, sent an emergency alert at 4:22 pm (2122 GMT) reporting “an active shooter near Barus and Holley Engineering,” which is home to the engineering and physics departments. Two exams had been scheduled at the time.

“Lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice,” the university said.

Law enforcement and first responders swarmed the scene, with local news station WPRI reporting “clothing and blood on the sidewalk.”

US President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting and called the incident a “terrible thing.”

“All we can do right now is pray for the victims,” he said.

Lewis Cope hints at Strictly Come Dancing reunion with Katya after dramatic exit

Emmerdale star Lewis Cope and dance partner Katya Jones saw their Strictly dream come to an abrupt end last week – but now the actor has hinted he could soon reunited with his co-star on the dancefloor

Lewis Cope has teased a reunion with Katya Jones a week after they were brutally cut from Strictly Come Dancing. The Emmerdale star, 30, was paired with 36-year-old Russian dancer Katya for the 2025 season.

Despite being hot favourites for the 23rd season, Lewis and Katya were sent home last week after losing a dance-off against Love Island star Amber Davies and dancer Nikita Kuzmin. The rival couple were unanimously saved by judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood – sealing the fate of Lewis and Katya.

Fans of the duo may have reason to celebrate, however, as the soap actor has now hinted that he could soon reunite with his dance partner to hit the ballroom floor again. Taking to social media over the weekend, the Nicky Miligan actor laid out his plans for the future.

In footage showing him walking across a sun-soaked, if chilly-looking beach, the actor opened up to his fans and followers. He began: “Hello, everyone. I just thought I’d jump on here because I’ve realised I haven’t really spoke for a week.”

He continued: “So I just want to say thank you so much for the thousands of comments and messages and the love and the support. I had an absolute ball on that show, and of course, I would have loved to have been dancing again tonight. But you know that doesn’t really stand for much because I would do it every single week for the next six weeks if I could.”

Teasing a return to dancing, he continued: “Hopefully we’ll be able to dance for you again soon.” He then went on to confront negative comments that have been aimed towards Strictly and the remaining 2025 contestants.

Lewis said: “I think you know just enjoy the show and try to keep it positive and stay away from saying anything negative about anyone else because everyone’s doing the best. It’s just the TV show and they all deserve to be there. So have a lovely, lovely weekend.”

He then shared footage of himself spinning on the spot while on the beach, writing across the short video: “We got ten 10’s. I’m the 10th sibling. And it was Katya’s 10th year. If I could, I would relive it over and over again. It was my number one favourite life experience. Thank you.”

He later shared photos and video clips of himself enjoying an evening with his girlfriend, Maya Lopez. Lewis’s enchanting seaside weekend came after he faced criticism for taking part in Strictly when he had a well-documented history of dancing.

He appeared in a stage version of Billy Elliot in his youth, and went on to be a runner-up in the Sky One dance series Got to Dance back in 2013. And Lewis is not the only 2025 contestant to be targeted for his stage and dance experience.

Amber, who arguably sent him home by winning the dance off the week before, has also faced vicious comments due to the fact she has reinvented herself from a Love Island contestant to a West End star, where she makes a living dancing and singing on stage. She has been brutally trolled online, leading her dance partner, Nikita, to appeal to viewers to stop sending her hateful comments online.

On Saturday night, he declared on the BBC show: “You had so much hate every single day from the moment you joined. You had so much hate this week and yet you came every single day into the training room with a big smile, ignoring everybody.” His comments drew approval from the other contestants and dancers on the show – which is now one week away from the live grand finale – where either Amber and Nikita, Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon, George Clarke and Alexis Warr, or Karen Carney and Carlos Gu will win the show.

Private Jet Makes Emergency Landing At Kano Airport After Nose Wheel Collapse

A private jet operated by Flybird on Sunday made a faulty landing at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, after its nose wheel collapsed on touchdown.

Airport sources confirmed the incident to Channels Television, noting that all 11 occupants on board the aircraft, including three crew members, were safely evacuated without any injuries.

“The aircraft experienced a nose wheel collapse while landing at MAKIA,” an airport official said. “All passengers and crew were safely evacuated, and there were no casualties recorded.”

Another source at the airport explained that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene to secure the aircraft and ensure the safety of airport operations.

“Our rescue and firefighting personnel responded promptly in line with standard operating procedures,” the source said. “The situation was brought under control within a short time.”

The aircraft has since been cleared from the runway and moved to a designated area for repairs, allowing normal flight operations to resume at the airport.

England complete series win over Jamaica

England produced another clinical display to beat a depleted Jamaica side 81-30 at London’s Copper Box Arena on Sunday to complete a 2-0 series win.

Jess Thirlby’s Roses side followed up Saturday’s 80-37 victory with an even more comprehensive performance.

Like Saturday, they opened up a 23-point advantage by half time and pulled away from a visiting side hit by injuries by adding 43 points in the second half.

Helen Housby led the way in goal attack, piling on the points with a clinical display that saw her named player of the series.

“I don’t think you will have seen many England teams be that ruthless and purposeful with how they see games out and you can see that by the scoreline,” Thirlby told BBC Sport.

“Yes, Jamaica will be stronger again, both for having come here with some of their new talent and with some of the players who will return, but for now we can only play the team in front of us and we should be very proud.”

Jamaica won the inaugural 2024 Horizon series 2-1, which enabled them to leapfrog England and go third in the world rankings.

The 2025 series was due to consist of four fixtures – two in Jamaica in early December and two in England – but the matches in Kingston were cancelled following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

Members of the Jamaica team helped in the relief effort, handing out care packages, and have been unable to train as a whole squad.

England Netball will donate £1 from every Horizon Series ticket sold to Netball Jamaica’s chosen charity, World Central Kitchen, and has also announced fans will be able to contribute to the British Red Cross’ Disaster Fund.

But with less than a year to go until the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Horizon Series provides crucial game time for both nations.

Thirlby added: “We really respect any Jamaican side and I hope their players who were taken off the court injured are OK.

In Saturday’s match, captain Fran Williams was named player of the match after leading by example, while Eleanor Cardwell continued her recovery from a serious knee injury and Natalie Metcalf played for the first time since having a baby seven months ago.

“The girls make it so easy coming into camp, which just makes it easy when you get on court. It felt really connected,” Cardwell told BBC Sport.

“I just love playing games of netball and I’ve not played many this year so it’s really nice.

Grimes reveals petty treatment by Elon Musk after he ‘blocked’ her

Singer Grimes lashed out at her ex-partner Elon Musk as she took to social media to accuse him of having previously blocked her on his own social media platform X

Grimes has hit out at ex-partner Elon Musk, claiming he blocked her on his social media platform X. The musician, who has three children with the Tesla Motors CEO, responded after an X user noticed she no longer appeared to follow Musk on the site. Taking to social media, Grimes clarified the situation for her followers.

She wrote, “For context I am just living my life. He followed me and unblocked me. I am not gna be following and unfollowing. My only priority is co-parenting. I am not interested in public dramatics. It is so silly lol [sic].”

Back in 2021, Musk revealed they were “semi-separated” while continuing to raise their first child together, X Æ A-Xii Musk, who was born in 2020. Despite this, the pair welcomed two more children: daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, born via surrogate in December 2021, and son Techno Mechanicus in June 2022.

Though the precise nature of their current relationship remains unclear, the former couple has a history of public disagreements. As recently as last month, Grimes delivered a stark eight-word warning about the X owner and the “imminent threat” posed by a man she “can’t control” when it comes to their children.

The artist, whose birth name is Claire Elise Boucher, expressed her view that “the biggest imminent threat is just outsourcing thinking”, in reference to AI services. Her ex and billionaire SpaceX owner has embedded several types of AI into the social media site X.

Back in February, he declared Grok 3 is “the smartest AI on Earth” during a presentation on X. Asserting that studies have demonstrated AI “atrophies the brain,” she told Doomscroll’s Joshua Citarella, referring to AI, “I’m tired of experimenting on kids, you know, smoking, McDonald’s, and now we’re gonna do it with this?”.

Musk’s platform, featuring both text and image-based AI, is accessible to anyone aged 13 and above. Currently, no age verification system exists when creating an X account.

While the mother-of-three believes AI could potentially cause kids to “die”, conversely, she also expresses enthusiasm about a forthcoming AI revolution. Grimes added, “In some ways I can’t wait for super-intelligence – in some ways I can’t wait. It’s not as easy since I’ve had kids.”

Back in October 2023, Grimes submitted a petition seeking to establish parental rights for all three children, based on online documents reviewed by PEOPLE. Subsequently, in November 2024, the artist revealed she had postponed releasing fresh music due to being caught up in a custody dispute with Musk.

“Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modelling used as reasons I shouldn’t have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love if my life as he comes unrecognisable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/strategy experience),” she wrote on X at the time. “All the while I didn’t see one of my babies for 5 months,” she added, noting, “And this is only what can be said publicly, since most of my experience these last years should remain behind closed doors.”

Several months later, Grimes expressed her frustration with Musk’s parenting after he took their eldest child, X, who was 4 years old at the time, to the Oval Office on February 11. Shortly afterward, Grimes revealed that she had been unaware of her son’s public appearance and only discovered it through an X user.
