RSF digging mass graves in Sudan’s el-Fasher to ‘clean up massacre’: Expert

According to a researcher at Yale University in the United States, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are digging mass graves in El-Fasher, a city in western Sudan where there have been numerous massacres and displacements since the RSF took control of the area last month.

The RSF “have begun to dig mass graves and gather bodies throughout the city,” according to Nathaniel Raymond, executive director of the Humanitarian Research Lab at Yale’s School of Public Health, on Tuesday.

According to Raymond, “They are doing the massacre clean up.”

After the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) retreated, which has been fighting the paramilitary group for control of Sudan since April 2023, the RSF seized control of El-Fasher, the state capital, on October 26.

Since the RSF’s takeover, more than 70, 000 people have fled the city and surrounding areas, according to the UN, and there have also been reports of “summary executions,” sexual abuse, and civilian massacres, according to witnesses and human rights organizations.

Additionally, a report from Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab on October 28 revealed “mass killings” since the RSF’s control of El-Fasher, including apparent pools of blood that were visible in satellite imagery.

Additionally, UN officials issued a warning this week that el-Fasher is believed to have trapped thousands of people.

According to Jacqueline Wilma Parlevliet, a senior UN refugee agency (UNHCR) official in Sudan, “the current insecurity continues to impede the delivery of life-saving assistance to those trapped in the city without food, water, and medical care.”

Before the RSF’s full takeover, el-Fasher was already suffering from an 18-month siege imposed by the paramilitary group, according to Sudanese journalist Abdallah Hussain.

Hussain told Al Jazeera from Khartoum, the city’s capital, on Tuesday, that “no medical facilities]were] operating and that no aid was allowed access to the city.” The situation is getting worse for the citizens who are still trapped right now.

The RSF and its supporters have attempted to minimize the atrocities committed in El-Fasher by blaming allied armed groups for their actions as a result of widespread condemnation.

Hemedti, the RSF’s leader, has also promised an investigation.

However, Raymond from the Humanitarian Research Lab stated that “they must leave the city [and] allow UN personnel, the Red Cross, and humanitarians to go house-to-house to see who is still alive.

We can’t let the RSF do their own investigation at this point, he said.

According to Raymond, “more people could have died [in 10 days] than have died in the past two years of the war in Gaza,” according to UN figures and what can be seen on the ground in el-Fasher.

“That’s what we’re talking about,” the statement read. He emphasized that thousands of people require emergency assistance, and he told Al Jazeera, “That’s not hyperbole.”

Sir David Beckham admits ‘more emotion than nerves’ as he finally gets knighted

Footballing legend David Beckham revealed that he was “more emotion than nerves” on his big day at Winsdor Castle with King Charles.

Sir David Beckham has revealed exactly what he was feeling when he was knighted by King Charles after years of waiting. The football icon, 50, was recognised at Windsor Castle by the King for his services to sport and charity.

His exciting news was made public over the summer, but he waited until Tuesday to get his moment. His wife, Lady Victoria, also attended the occasion, and she even donned her first-ever tailored menswear suit from her line of fashion.

David and Victoria’s children, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, also made sure to be by their dad’s side for his big day. However, eldest son Brooklyn continued to distance himself from his famous family as he was nowhere to be seen.

Despite the pain it may have caused, David has opened up about his knighthood as he confessed it was a “very emotional day”. Revealing more about the big moment, an orchestral version of Golden from the hit Netflix series K-Pop Demon Hunters played in the background.

It is thought to have been a rather cheeky reference to Victoria’s frequently used nickname, “Goldenballs.” In all truth, David said, “Today was such an emotional day. I’m not talking about nerves.”

“There have been a few tears and a lot of emotion,” he added to the Sun. “It’s been a very special day.” David explained that his achievement is something that they can “all be proud of today as a family”.

Son Romeo gushed over David following the knighthood as he shared on social media: “No one deserves this more than you, love you so much xxx Congrats Sir dad.”

Victoria praised Cruz and the Windsor Castle family, while Cruz also shared photos of the family. Thankful for this occasion and for my incredible team who worked so hard to realize the vision.

In honor of his new initials, Sir David Beckham, David wore the first-ever tailored menswear piece from Victoria’s own fashion label, which featured sweet details, including a label with the date and SDB.

Brooklyn has chosen not to message a congratulatory message over the summer because he has chosen not to share the news of David’s knighthood. Instead, the aspiring chef quickly shared a post about pretzel pita chips on Instagram that caused a stir among the followers.

Brooklyn was “thrilled” for his dad, according to one source, who still favors keeping “no contact” with his family for the time being. David managed to exchange a few words with the King after the rumored conflict on his big day.

Lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling explained that David responded by telling him he was proud of himself and that David later revealed what he wanted to do with his career after that. King Charles praised Nicola’s speech while speaking on behalf of Betfair Slots, saying, “I am so proud of all you have done with your sports and charities. Amazing, you are beyond reproach. I’m pleased to knight you.

The King urged David to “do what you’re good at” when it had been a “great day.” David made it clear that he wanted to write a book at this point. If I’m honest, it’s been my greatest honor. I’ll write a book the following day. However, it has been incredible to be here today.

David described his outfit making by Victoria to the PA as “quite impressive.” He “inspires quite a few of my looks over the years, and he definitely inspired this look because he’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man I know.”

My wife made me do it, she said. When I looked at old photos of him wearing morning suits when he was still a young child, I thought, “OK, that’s what I want to wear,” so I gave it to my wife, and she did.

Free-kick, penalty… or drop ball? VAR intervenes on Real Madrid handball

Handball or handball not? On Tuesday night, VAR penalties were decided between Arsenal and Liverpool.

When a free-kick went down as a dropped ball just as they thought they had a penalty against Real Madrid, Liverpool fans were left completely perplexed.

Despite a Slavia Prague handball coming from the defender’s head, Arsenal were the ones who were saved.

Was Brennan Johnson’s dismissal against FC Copenhagen unfortunate for Tottenham Hotspur?

Why did Courtois receive a dropped ball from Liverpool’s free kick?

In the 30th minute, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni blocked a shot that Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai made on goal.

The Real Madrid player was shown a free kick for handball by the referee, which appeared to be very close to being inside the area.

When the referee jogged over to the pitchside monitor, where the VAR was located, Liverpool fans inside Anfield erupted, anticipating a penalty would be given.

Except that’s not what was going on.

The VAR, not the referee, would make a factual decision about the location of the handball, not the referee.

A referee serves as the judge for a subjective decision, such as handball, to the monitor. The referee was therefore overturning his decision to handball by going to the screen.

But how did we start off with a dropped ball for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after receiving a free kick from Liverpool?

It’s a penalty because the handball actually occurred inside the box. Additionally, the VAR has the authority to review a penalty.

The free kick would have remained in place regardless of whether it had been proven to be correct or incorrect if the handball had been determined to be outside the area.

Although it was overturned in a Uefa competition, the outcome was acceptable. Kovacs likely noticed that Tchouameni’s arm was farther out, but when the Real Madrid player hit him, he had the ball very close to his body, without creating a horizontal barrier.

Play restarts with the goalkeeper, which effectively leaves Liverpool with their attacking possession because it was an overturned penalty.

What data are gathered from this quiz?

Was the Arsenal penalty a lucky one?

Lukas Provod was found to have handled the ball after a corner was played into the box in the 32nd minute of Arsenal’s match at Slavia Prague.

Why did the VAR get involved when the ball landed on Provod’s head and was later transferred to the ball?

There is a distinction to be made between deliberately heading the ball and deflection in the Premier League, which is highly unlikely to have been a VAR penalty.

A defender shouldn’t receive a penalty if they nod their own raised arm when they receive a firm contact on a header.

Johnson received a VAR red card, but was he unlucky?

In the 57th minute of Spurs’ thrashing of FC Copenhagen, Johnson was unlucky to be sent off after a VAR review.

He pressed in unaided to get the ball away from Marcos Lopez, and after his boot came up off the ground, the ball landed on Lopez’s leg.

Was the yellow card that the referee showed really a clear and obvious error, according to Erik Lambrechts?

Sir David Beckham’s telling comment on family as Brooklyn snubs knighthood honour

Sir David Beckham has opened up about his family in a rare interview just hours after being awarded his knighthood for services to charity and sports by King Charles

Sir David Beckham made a very open statement about his family. The former footballing icon was today presented with his knighthood by King Charles at Windsor Castle, for his services to charity and sports.

The ex-England captain was joined by his wife, Lady Victoria, and his mother, Sandra and dad, Ted, as they watched on in awe during the emotional investiture. Just hours later, the Beckham family celebrated with their children, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, with David joking they could call him “Sir Dad”.

One noticeable person was absent from the joyous moment: Sir David and Lady Victoria’s eldest child, son, Brooklyn. In recent years, the aspiring chef has had a strained relationship with his famous parents. Brooklyn famously snubbed David’s 50th birthday celebrations and hasn’t publicly acknowledged his royalist father being given his knighthood.

But while he admits today was filled with more emotions than nerves, he was reassured by the presence of his family. “To have my parents there today, to have my wife there to celebrate with my children, it makes it a very emotional day,” he said.

Speaking to The Sun, about his charity work, which he says he started aged 15 in Manchester, Sir David added: “So that important work will always continue. But today is just a day to savour as a family.” Brooklyn has remained silent on social media today.

But son Romeo praised his dad. Sharing a snap of himself and his family, the footballer said: “No one deserves this more than you, love you so much.” Poking fun, he joked: “Congrats Sir dad.”

Moments later, Lady Victoria shared snaps from the day on social media, writing: “David, from the moment I met you 28 years ago, you’ve always been so proud to represent your country. Whether on or off the pitch, no one loves England or respects our Royal Family more, so to see you honoured by The King today is something I’ll forever cherish.

“You’ve achieved so much, and yet you’re still the same kind, humble, hardworking man I met nearly 30 years ago, as well as the most amazing husband and father. I’ve never felt prouder than I do today. Sir @davidbeckham, we all love you so much xxx.”

Friends of the footballing icon who made his debut for Manchester United in 1995 told the Mirror that Beckham will not “sit back idly” and will continue to focus on his charity work with the hopes of “trying to make a difference.”

They added to us: “There are some celebrities who get a knighthood and you don’t hear from them again… But David wants to use this incredible honour to champion the causes he believes in and raise their profile. He is determined to give back to the UK.”

He says his knighthood is the “proudest moment” of his career. Over the years, he’s backed a string of charity causes, as well as being a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2005. Just last year, he was named as an ambassador of The King’s Foundation, an educational charity launched by Charles in 1990.

Speaking at Windsor Castle, he said: “All the things that I do, I do out of love. I don’t do it because I’m forced to do it, I don’t do it because I have to do it, I do it because it’s important because I think there’ll always be something to do. I do believe that my work will never stop. I enjoy work. I got brought up with the right values to have respect for people and that will continue.”

He wore a bespoke grey three-piece suit, designed by Lady Victoria, who wore a navy Bela Midi dress from her own brand, along with a Stephen Jones hat. Sir David also took inspiration from the King when it came to deciding what he wanted to wear.
