‘Trailblazer’ Blundell wants to inspire other mothers

Manchester United defender Hannah Blundell says she feels like a “trailblazer” after making her return seven months after giving birth – and encourages more sportswomen to follow her lead.

The 31-year-old came on as a substitute during her side’s 3-2 Women’s Super League (WSL) win at Brighton last week, making her the first Manchester United player in the professional era to play after giving birth.

Blundell delivered her daughter Romi by caesarean section on 31 March and her return seven months later came 533 days after her previous appearance.

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Blundell said she is adjusting to being a “trailblazer” but wants her experience to inspire other sportswomen.

“It’s kind of a new chapter for me but something that I’m really happy to be a part of – something I really want to push that more women do in the game, and that they come back and are still able to play football,” said Blundell.

“Because yes, football is a short career but also having a family is something that a lot of people want to do, and they shouldn’t not have to do it because of playing football.

“Thankfully we are getting to a stage where more women are having children and then getting back into the game, which is lovely to see.”

Blundell, who joined from Chelsea in 2021, was a regular starter for Manchester United in her first three seasons and was a starter as the club lifted their first FA Cup in May 2024.

Four months later United announced she was pregnant with her first child, and Blundell says at times she wondered whether she would be the same athlete on her return.

“I was sort of like ‘what if I don’t come back as the same player? What if my body doesn’t react positively to having a baby?'” said Blundell.

“But I think women’s bodies are incredible. What our bodies can go through and bounce back I think is amazing, and I think should be shown a lot more.”

Blundell started building her fitness again in July, before making appearances for United’s under-21s in September.

She made the matchday squad against Chelsea on 3 October and remained an unused substitute against Valerenga, Everton and Atletico Madrid last month before finally making her comeback against Brighton.

Blundell hopes her journey from pregnancy to returning to first-team football will help inspire a community which will make it easier for women to follow a similar path.

“I just hope people look at it and think ‘I can do that’. And it doesn’t stop them and gives them a worry – it’s kind of like the more people do it,” said Blundell.

Celebrity Traitors series 2 cast rumours with every star who’s asked to appear

Several celebrities have already expressed their interest in taking part in a second series of Celebrity Traitors

Celebrity Traitors has become the talk of the town, sparking a flurry of memes and delivering a jaw-dropping finale. The show’s success is largely down to its star-studded cast, featuring the likes of Stephen Fry, acclaimed actress Celia Imrie, and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed.

After the nail-biting final, where Alan Carr duped the unsuspecting Faithfuls to snatch the prize pot, speculation is rife about who might join the next series. Even though the dust has barely settled on Carr’s victory, several celebs have already expressed interest in participating in a potential second season – yet to be confirmed by the BBC, but given the sky-high viewing figures, it seems likely.

Corporation chiefs have yet to formally greenlight a second run of the celebrity edition, but they’re reportedly already scouting potential participants.

Gareth Southgate

Former England boss Gareth Southgate, a known enthusiast of the programme, has previously disclosed that the national squad and coaching staff created their own version of The Traitors during downtime at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

When Virgin Radio presenter Chris Evans questioned whether he’d participate in the celebrity edition, he teasingly responded: “Well…” The pair then shared a laugh and fistbumped, with Evans saying: “They’ve reached out. I love it! Gareth, you’ve got to do it!”.

Should Southgate agree to take part, however, viewers shouldn’t anticipate seeing him in the Traitors’ Turret. When questioned about whether he could wear the green cloak and reveal a ruthless streak, the ex-England manager admitted: “I can’t, because when I’ve played with the lads and the staff, I’ve been a hopeless Traitor. Hopeless… I start to sweat.”

Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary

Following the thrilling finale, This Morning presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary stated during a segment on the ITV morning programme that they’d both contemplate featuring in a second series.

Hammond, particularly, is somebody numerous viewers would relish seeing in the castle. “Petition for Alison Hammond to be on the next series of Celebrity Traitors,” one supporter posted on X/ Twitter.

Another commented: “Season two with Alison Hammond needed NOW.”

Mike Tindall

This year’s Celebrity Traitors line-up featured numerous A-list personalities, but its producers may be able to surpass themselves and secure a member of the Royal family next year. Former rugby star Mike Tindall, who is wed to the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall, expressed his interest in joining the show during a chat on This Morning.

After viewing a snippet of the programme, he told presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard : “Having watched that, I think I would definitely enjoy doing that.”

Tindall is no stranger to reality telly, having been the first Royal to brave the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! jungle in 2022.

Danny Dyer

Ex-EastEnders actor Danny Dyer has confessed that he initially declined when producers approached him for the inaugural series of Celebrity Traitors – but he’s since had a change of heart. During an episode of the Live and Let Dyers podcast, which he co-hosts with his daughter Dani, he shared: “They did sniff around me about it. It was a ‘no’ from me because, for one, I hadn’t seen it, but now I’m into it.”

He went on to say: “It’s quite a simple game, I thought it was too complicated, but it’s actually just about manipulating people and a lot of lying. If the money’s right, I might get involved in the next series.”

Women’s Super League: Arsenal v Chelsea

Venue: Emirates Stadium, London Date: Saturday, 8 November Kick-off: 12:00 GMT

Chelsea have not lost a match in the Women’s Super League in 555 days.

Their French manager Sonia Bompastor has never experienced the feeling of defeat in the English top flight.

Since losing 4-3 to Liverpool on 1 May 2024, Chelsea have claimed two WSL titles, changed managers and gone 32 league games unbeaten.

If they avoid defeat on Saturday, the Blues will equal the longest unbeaten streak in WSL history – set by Chelsea under Emma Hayes between 2019 and 2021.

But Arsenal, who are desperate to keep their title hopes alive, stand in their way.

Now or never for Arsenal to save title hopes

While Chelsea have stayed unbeaten at the start of 2025-26 campaign and sit top of the WSL table, Arsenal have been less fortunate.

The Gunners’ hopes of a title charge suffered an early blow with a defeat by Manchester City and draws against Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Those results have left Arsenal five points behind Chelsea and a defeat on Saturday would surely end their dreams of winning a first league title since 2019.

While they have endured a shaky start to the season, the Gunners did strengthen in the summer and Slegers has a deeper squad to challenge the reigning champions.

Arsenal will also take confidence from their triumphant Champions League run last season, when they beat eight-time winners Lyon and favourites Barcelona to lift the one trophy that Chelsea have yet to win.

Former Gunners defender Jen Beattie says Arsenal have the players to cause Chelsea problems.

“I do think that they have more than enough quality in their squad to [win], ” she told the Women’s Football Weekly podcast.

“We’ve seen that over the past sort of 12 months of course – it’s whether they get it tactically right.”

Slegers will also be well aware that Bompastor’s side have looked far from invincible this season.

The Blues overcame a slow start to beat Aston Villa and they narrowly edged past Leicester, while they dropped points in a surprise draw against Dutch side Twente in their Women’s Champions League opener.

Describing Chelsea’s unbeaten run as “ridiculous”, former England striker Ellen White added: “It is going to be a real challenge for Arsenal and I think it comes at a good time for them.

“They have to put everything together now and they have to perform and improve and really kickstart their season.”

Arsenal’s head-to-head record against Chelsea

On their way to becoming the first WSL side to finish a 22-game season unbeaten, Chelsea did the league-double over Arsenal last term.

One goal separated the two teams on both occasions.

During their last outing at the Emirates, Chelsea netted twice in the opening 16 minutes – a cushion that the Gunners, who were playing under Jonas Eidevall, could not overturn.

In January’s reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge, Guro Reiten’s late penalty saw off to Renee Slegers’ side.

Arsenal have won three of their past 10 meetings against Chelsea in all competitions, losing six.

Their last victory against the Blues arrived in the 2024 League Cup final, when Stina Blackstenius scored a 116th-minute winner.

More than 50,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s meeting, which Slegers says will be “a beautiful occasion”, as well as a “great opportunity” to get back into the title race.

If Chelsea were to win, they would move to 22 points – eight ahead of Arsenal, whereas if the hosts were to triumph, they would cut the deficit to the Blues to just two points.

And Arsenal boast an impressive home record, having lost just one of their past 24 home matches in the league – although that did come against Chelsea last season.

“This is why the players work so hard, what they live for, to play these kinds of games where there’s so much at stake,” says Slegers.

Silenced: The War on Journalism

A gripping look at journalism’s ultimate sacrifice, told through stories of courage, loss and unwavering conviction.

In a world where truth-telling can often mean life or death, this documentary shines a light on journalists who paid the ultimate price for their work. From war zones to political cover-ups, their courageous reporting exposed critical truths, but also made them targets. Through intimate interviews with their families, friends, and colleagues, the film provides a heartfelt tribute to their legacies while uncovering the dangerous realities of journalism today.

Drawing on rare footage, personal accounts, and expert analysis, the film goes beyond the headlines to explore the human stories behind the statistics. These are not just tales of loss but of bravery, conviction, and an unwavering belief in the public’s right to know. The documentary also reflects on the emotional toll faced by those left behind, who grapple with grief, fear, and often unanswered questions about justice.

As attacks on journalists rise globally, the film exposes how press freedom is under siege in both autocratic regimes and democratic societies. It challenges viewers to consider the value of truth in an age of misinformation and growing, often orchestrated, hostility towards the media.

By exploring the stories of those who gave their lives in pursuit of the truth, this film offers a sobering reminder of the risks journalists take to inform the world. At its core, it is a call to defend press freedom and to remember the individuals who believed that the role of journalism is the protection of the ruled over the ruler.

This is not just a story about journalism, but a testament to human courage and the enduring power and importance of truth.

Norris heads Piastri in Sao Paulo practice

Lando Norris pipped McLaren team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri to the fastest time at the very end of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point following his win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023secs.

Until then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour of running before sprint qualifying at 18:30 GMT.

Verstappen’s team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.

The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice coming through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.

The seven-time champion ended the session 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri’s pace.

Hungarian leader Viktor Orban to meet US President Donald Trump

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is scheduled to meet United States President Donald Trump at the White House, where he is expected to seek a waiver on US sanctions on the purchase of Russian oil.

In a state radio interview released on Friday, the right-wing nationalist and longtime Trump ally said it was necessary to “achieve results” given Russia’s central role in providing Hungary with oil and gas.

“Hungary depends very much on Russian oil and gas,” Orban said during a recent interview with the Italian publication La Repubblica. “Without them, energy prices will skyrocket, causing shortages in our reserves.”

The meeting will test whether Orban’s close relationship with Trump will be enough to secure exemptions to expanding US sanctions targeting the Russian energy sector, a form of pressure meant to push Moscow towards negotiating an end to its war in Ukraine.

“President Trump and Prime Minister Orban have a long, positive relationship – they are very friendly with each other,” James Bachik, an analyst at the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, told Al Jazeera.

“We’ll see what sort of exemptions he might get. Donald Trump does have that personal relationship. He’s even empathised in the past with Hungary’s position on their dependence on Russian energy,” he added. “But the question is, will Hungary bring enough to the table to get that exemption?”

Other countries, including US allies such as India, which had previously bought Russian oil with little protest from Washington, have scrambled to respond to the abrupt change in US policy that threatens to impose punitive sanctions and restrict access to Russian oil.

Among European leaders, Orban is also considered more sympathetic towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Hungary has often been an obstacle towards European Union efforts to step up pressure on Russia.

The ideological affinity between Trump and Orban, both far-right leaders who have pushed a hardline vision of immigration restriction and sought to crack down on political opposition, could help Orban secure relief from potential sanctions.

“If there has ever been a golden age in Hungarian-American relations, it is now,” Orban said in a recent social media post. “We stand together on the key issues of our time: war and peace, migration, and the protection of family values.”
