‘Clear picture’ emerging as Rohl’s Rangers stumble

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

“I believe the picture becomes clearer and clearer for me.”

Danny Rohl’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by Falkirk at Ibrox, and that is how Rangers head coach Danny Rohl responded.

A result that puts them nine points clear of Hearts with a game less than they have won the Scottish Premiership since the Germans took control. And seven adrift of Celtic, who are in second place.

This season, the Rangers have won just two league games at Ibrox, many of which were won by former head coach Russell Martin.

After a performance that consistently failed to reach the heights, full-time sounded like boos en route to the sparsely occupied stands.

Poor Rangers. The audience member yelled, “This was the worst display of the season,” in a loud voice. Nobody in opposition.

Despite some encouraging outcomes, the majority of performances were underwhelming in Rohl’s short tenure as head coach and there were some areas of unfinished business.

Rangers’ squad is it up to the task?

It was difficult to overthrow Livingston’s 2-1 victory over last weekend.

With the score at 1-1, Rangers felt like they had gotten away with Emmanuel Fernandez escaping without punishment after handling in the penalty area. However, Rohl’s side triumphed, which is crucial.

They didn’t succeed in their insipid display against Falkirk. The gap in the league has now narrowed to a point where they could still challenge for the title.

When he spoke about the squad he inherited, Rohl said, “I have a good overview after six weeks.” “I am aware of our situation, but it’s my responsibility to get better.

What stood out in opposition to Falkirk?

What should I start with? It wouldn’t have been deserved if Rangers had discovered a winner. Scott Bain was hardly ever put on the ice.

Four front-line adjustments were ineffective. Poor Oliver Antman. Ineffective Thelo Aasgaard Bojan Miovski is just as right. Not nearly enough time was had by Nedim Bajrami.

In the summer, three members of that quartet paid a combined fee of around £10 million.

The players appeared unwilling to accept responsibility for what happened in the match against Falkirk. The crowd’s behavior only exacerbated the situation.

“Rohl conceded,” “This is exactly the point.” When you are at your best and most confident, you make the right decisions.

Progress being hampered by recruitment

When Rangers’ takeover was complete, there was so much cheer in the supporters’ hearts. For the time being, the new dawn that promised doesn’t stop there.

Football recruitment is crucial. Few would contest the success of the summer window. The scope of that failure was rubbered-stamped by the recent firings of sporting director Kevin Thelwell and chief executive Patrick Stewart.

Two of Falkirk’s starting back four have been drafted on loan and haven’t done well.

Before injuries forced Rohl’s hand, Fernandez, who signed for a sizable sum, has hardly featured.

Young striker Youssef Chermiti missed out due to illness, but his £8 million fee has hardly appeared extravagant.

It’s difficult to identify a success, despite the recent decline in Djeidi Gassama.

The head coach appears to have a better understanding of the task at hand now that he has had time to evaluate what he has available.

When asked if some players needed to demonstrate more to persuade him that they have a long-term future with Rangers, he responded, “Yes, I believe this is also a part.”

“We have a long December where we have to work with this group,” he says, “but we also have to consider what we can do.”

What does the Rangers’ December look like?

Decidedly frightening The fixture list appears challenging.

Beginning December, there will be two consecutive away trips to Dundee United on Wednesday and Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Following that, a must-win Europa League trip to Ferencvaros is required. On 11 points, Hungary ranks sixth in the table. That only serves to illustrate Rangers how difficult the task is, with victory crucial to preserving the slimmest chance of advancement.

Hibernian visit Ibrox four days later, and they might be interested in competing.

With two home games against Motherwell and St Mirren to end the calendar year, Hearts, the current league leaders, will face an even greater challenge.

Few people will support Rohl’s side if the evidence from Sunday proves otherwise.

The transfer window opens in January. In a month that is typically difficult to conduct business, fans will be looking for significant changes.

What were the experts’ opinions?

Stephen Craigan, a former international at Motherwell and Northern Ireland, believes that significant business needs to be done.

After spending £30 million on the summer, Craig claimed on Sportsound, “It’s crazy that this Rangers team needs major surgery.” Who would you keep? 11 people appeared to be pitching for the first time.

Steven Thompson, a former Rangers striker, concurred.

The summer had a lot of positive energy, but it has completely changed. The recruitment process has been a complete failure.

“The performance was poor in terms of creativity. Almost no effort on the part of the goal. There are hardly any moments that leave you speechless.

What are the fans’ retorts?

Bill, do you recall the team that Mark Warburton led to our return to the Premiership? That team is missing me.

Abernethy: Rangers give another disappointing performance. The Old Firm derby defeat appears to be inevitable. Investors in the 49ers’ upcoming departure cannot be discounted. Next season’s worth of European football is unmanageable.

Could be close to the worst Rangers team of all time, Melvin?

Falkirk is a point, Hamish. No today’s home team officials’ free card for getting out of jail.

Gabe: Again, absolutely awful from Rangers. Although Rohl is working with a squad that isn’t quite competitive, questions need to be raised about his tactics and player selections. Occasionally perplexing.

Duncan: Rohl’s comments about improvement are completely contradictory to the awful performances, and he only slightly improves Martin. Why does he keep picking the same non-performers? He hasn’t accomplished anything noteworthy since taking over, but he is praised for saving humanity.

Merino strikes to earn Arsenal bruising 1-1 draw against 10-man Chelsea

In a tense London derby, Mike Merino saved Arsenal as the Premier League leaders fought to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

Late in the first half, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo was shown a crude foul on Merino at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea took a second half lead after Caicedo’s dismissal, but Merino’s equalizing goal earned Arsenal a point after the title rivals had fought back.

Arsenal is five points clear of Manchester City, who defeated Leeds United on Saturday, and is six points ahead of Chelsea, who is in third place.

Arsenal were relieved to avoid a damaging defeat after the dust had settled on a game of relentless intensity, and Chelsea were left to rue a missed chance to win the title.

Arsenal are still the favorites to win the Premier League title, but Chelsea’s aggressive display suggested they might pose the greatest threat to the Gunners’ title ambitions.

Chelsea have won their first seven games without losing in all competitions, while Arsenal have won all 17 of those games, winning 14 of those.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca had slashed his young team’s chances of winning the title, but Arsenal did so without injured centre-back William Saliba.

Both teams tried to impose themselves in a tumultuous first half that included a slew of bookings.

Reece James was cynically pulled down by Gunners midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella crunched into Bukayo Saka, Mosquera pole-axed Joao Pedro, and Riccardo Calafiori.

With a stinging strike that Robert Sanchez saved at his near post, Saka almost exacted immediate retribution against Cucurella.

Estevao Willian, a teenager sensation, made his Chelsea debut following their 3-0 win over Barcelona in midweek.

The 18-year-old was unable to match his stunning goal against Barca when he lashed over from 9 meters (10 yards) to miss Chelsea’s opening real chance.

As Chelsea began to put pressure on the visitors’ reorganized defense, Enzo Fernandez tested Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya from the edge of the area.

When Caicedo caught Merino in the 38th minute with a foul that was upgraded from a booking to a dismissal following a VAR review, the attrition war turned ugly.

This was the Blues’ sixth red card of the season across all competitions.

A dangerous Hincapie elbow on Chalobah, which caused Chelsea to lash out for a red card, did not come after the Ecuador midfielder’s premature exit.

On the cue of half-time, Gabriel Martinelli nearly heightened Chelsea’s anxiety with a powerful blast that forced a fine save from Sanchez.

With ten goals in 12 games, Arsenal became the league’s best set-piece team.

Chelsea finished with eight, but in the 48th minute Chalobah won with nine.

As James curled a corner to the near post before reaching Chalobah’s highest point inside the six-yard box, Chalobah headed his header into the far corner.

On his way back to his former club, Arteta sent on Noni Madueke and Martin Odegaard, who were jeered and chanted “Chelsea reject.”

Merino’s 59th-minute equalizer earned the Arsenal changes instant reward.

A stunning run and cross from Saka past Cucurella led to a powerful close-range header that flew past Sanchez.

Merino scored his fourth goal of the season when Arteta used him as a substitute.

Arsenal were unable to deliver the decisive blow in a furious finale, which featured Sanchez making superb stops to deny Saka and Merino.

Reece James, Chelsea’s captain, expressed regret after receiving the three points and how the sending off limited his team.

“Over the past few years, Arsenal have been at the top. We were aware that it would not be simple. Their midfield is formidable. He claimed that we had already done everything we could to play our game and caused them harm.

He continued, “Maresca] slightly altered the formation, and he was aware that they were going to attack us.” So we attempted to catch them on the counter by attempting to soak up the pressure.

I’m proud of the boys, they say. Today at the Bridge, it was riotous. We’re content to accept the message.

Arsenal were disappointed not to win, according to Merino.

You want to win every game when you sport this shirt. he informed Sky Sports. To enter and take a point at this stadium is a real challenge. The team displayed good mentality, but we could have done better.

Alexander Isak, the underdogs’ record signing, scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool on Sunday to give them a much-needed 2-0 victory over West Ham United.

‘Better than ever’ Robertson advances in UK Championship

Media PA

Neil Robertson, the former world champion, believes that his excellent season has resulted in him playing “better than ever” after making it to the last 16 of the UK Championship.

The Australian won the tournament for the third time in his three years as a result of beating Belgian Julien Leclercq 6-2 on Sunday in the opening round of the competition.

Leclercq, 22, who is ranked 79th and required three victories to qualify for York, was 3-1 ahead when the 43-year-old broke the 105 barrier to the 22-year-old UK debutant.

Leclercq restored the lead to 3-3, but Robertson won the final three frames to advance comfortably.

Robertson, who dropped out of the top 20 in 2024 and failed to qualify for that year’s World Championship, his first time in 20 years, is making a remarkable recovery.

Robertson, who has held the position of world number one for five spells, “thought I had to do something when I didn’t qualify for the World Championship.” I looked up sports psychologists in the Cambridge area because I was practicing well but not getting any results.

It changed the way I felt about what I was doing and made me realize there were so many things I could be doing better.

What’s up with your father, you ask? How the insults rekindled Robertson’s best behavior

Robertson credits Helen Davis with “completely transforming my life,” while former top-10 player Joe Perry has played a key role in his coaching setup, and she began working with her after she credits her with doing so.

Robertson remarked, “I can really trust the team’s voices,” adding that. Setting up the daily, weekly, and monthly structure is important because it allows you to enter all the tournaments prepared.

Why don’t enough snooker players create a team around themselves like other sports do? You can see that Novak Djokovic has won a tennis grand prix, and he thanked several members of his team for their efforts.

“This season has gone so brilliantly, and I just enjoyed it,” says I’m undoubtedly playing better than I ever have.

Robertson has won 26 ranking awards over the years, including the 2010 World Championship and the UK Championship in 2013, 2015, and 2020, as well as two non-ranking Masters titles.

But Alexander, his son, was faced with difficult questions at school, which gave him another reason to work hard for a higher position.

Robertson praised Alexander’s ability to have that experience with him. He has only ever known that I always won and win when I was a young child.

Then he experienced that moment when his classmates or teachers ask, “What’s wrong with your dad?,” and other similar things.

[VIDEO] Insecurity: Tinubu Should Apologise to Victimised Communities — Bakare

Tunde Bakare, the lead pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church, has urged President Bola Tinubu to apologize in public for the insecurity-ravaged communities.

The gesture, according to Bakare, will represent a commitment to justice and national harmony, as he said on Sunday during his State of the Nation address in Lagos.

The cleric reaffirmed the president’s initial steps in addressing the crisis but argued that more serious measures were needed to restore confidence.

What do Norris, Piastri & Verstappen need to win F1 title?

Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Max VerstappenGetty Images

Following a thrilling race in Qatar on Sunday night, the reigning F1 world champion will advance to Abu Dhabi for the weekend’s final race.

Lando Norris, a Brit who wants to win his first world title, is currently in the lead with 408 points.

Max Verstappen, the four-time champion, is now 12 points clear of 396 in the wake of his victory in Qatar, while Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate, is only four more points clear of 392 at the finish line.

The title is up for grabs for all three with 25 points available for Abu Dhabi’s first place finish.

Lando Norris

No matter where his rivals finish, Norris will win the world championship if he finishes first, second, or third in Abu Dhabi, to put it simply: No matter where Norris is the leader in the standings.

Additionally, he wins the title if he finishes ahead of both Verstappen and Piastri despite not placing first.

Any other scenario in which Norris must finish within Verstappen’s 12 points and Piastri’s 16 to claim the championship would require him to finish within Verstappen’s 16 points in Abu Dhabi.

Max Verstappen

Verstappen must win in Abu Dhabi, and Norris must finish fourth or worse, for his best chance to win.

Oscar Piastri

If Norris or Piastri wins the title in Abu Dhabi and Piastri wins, Piastri will win.

However, for him to win the title, Verstappen must finish in fourth or worse and Piastri finishes in second place.

Aspinall diagnosed with rare eye condition

Images courtesy of Getty

More than a month after picking up the injury while defending his heavyweight title at UFC 321, Tom Aspinall has been diagnosed with a rare condition in both eyes. He is not yet ready to return to action.

When Ciryl Gane attempted a punch late in the first round of their fight in Abu Dhabi on October 25, his French opponent accidentally poked the Briton in the both eyes.

Aspinall, 32, was unable to continue, and despite being turned down for a no-contest, he still had his belt.

Aspinall has been diagnosed with “significant traumatic bilateral Brown’s syndrome” and continues to have “persistent” double vision, according to a medical report released on his Instagram account.

The eye cannot move upwards, especially when looking inward, according to Brown’s syndrome.

Aspinall is still receiving medical clearance for combat action, and special treatment is ongoing.

According to the report, “Depending on clinical progression, targeted periocular]movement] impairment [to address persistent motility] may be required [to treat] steroid injections or surgical intervention to address persistent motility [movement] impairment.

Aspinall thanked followers for their ongoing “love, support, and memes” in a post on Instagram, and promised to update his YouTube channel on Sunday night with more details.

After the Aspinall incident, veteran MMA referee Herb Dean stated earlier in November that authorities will look to more frequently impose point deductions for eye pokes.

Instead of denying Gane, 35, a foul, the referee chose to hold the fight as a no-contest.

He decided the incident was unintentional rather than an accident by labeling the fight a no-contest.

Aspinall would have profited from a disqualification.

In an effort to reduce eye injuries, cuts, and cuts, UFC gloves are fingerless, and the organization introduced redesigned gloves in June 2024.
