Troops Arrest Two Fake Policemen With Cannabis In Taraba

Two fake policemen have been detained at Takum junction in the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State as a result of operations from Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

The suspects were found with two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with cannabis sativa, along with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents who were armed with credible intelligence.

According to a statement from Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army’s Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, preliminary investigation revealed that none of the occupants are serving police officers.

Before interception, it was discovered that the marijuana-laden vehicles had been traveling from Akure, Ondo State, to Adamawa State.

One of the arrested suspects has been identified as Ezeugo Destiny Uche, 41, and Monday George, a 71-year-old former Police ASP.

When the second Hilux’s drivers saw the troops, they left the vehicle and fled the scene.

The two vehicles recovered 1, 134 blocks of cannabis total. The NDLEA office in Wukari has received both the suspects and the recovered exhibits for investigation and prosecution.

The operation is a continuation of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, which is a continuation of the previous ones in Taraba State and aims to eradicate bandits and other criminal elements.

Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, the commander of the 6th Brigade Nigerian Army, praised the soldiers and NDLEA members for their synergy and resilience, while reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to keeping Taraba State safe for drug traffickers and criminals.

Cricket Australia to trial injury substitutes

In the first five rounds of their domestic Sheffield Shield competition, Cricket Australia will trial substitutes for injured players.

At the discretion of the referee, teams may substitute a player who suffers an injury or illness before, during, or after the first day of play.

The opposing side will also be able to make a tactical substitution in order to maintain fairness.

There is only one substitution per game, which is a bowler for a bowler. The match referee may place limits on the substitute’s ability to perform if it is not like-for-like.

According to Cricket Australia’s head of operations, Peter Roach, “Cricket Australia management will be gathering data on the success or failure of the trial to determine the options post that round.”

We hope to gain valuable information from the first five rounds of the trial so that we can use it in both our next competition and as a reference for introduction at Test level thanks to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

On Saturday, the Sheffield Shield’s opening round will take place.

During England’s Test series against India this summer, it was discussed the possibility of adding injured substitutes.

Rishabh Pant, an Indian batsman, broke his foot in the fourth test, and Chris Woakes, who had dislocated his shoulder on day one, took the field with one arm in a sling, in the final day of the fifth test.

Full substitutes are not permitted in the ICC’s playing conditions for test matches.

Teams may substitute injured players in the field, but the “substitute shall not bowl or play captain but may only serve as wicket-keeper with the team’s permission.”

Since 2019, players can bat and bowl in place of a concussion.

My size used as ammunition against me – Steward

Too slow and too big. Freddie Steward, the full-back for England and the Tigers of Leicester, is well-versed in criticism.

The 24-year-old accepts that he is a sizeable target despite being 6 feet 4 inches (196 cm) tall and weighing in at 16 lbs. (107 kg).

He has engaged in an ongoing battle to regain his position as England’s preferred full-back at the 2023 World Cup, which he won with a bronze medal.

George Furbank, a player for Northampton for the majority of 2024, only broke his arm while playing for Saints in the European Champions Cup in December.

Steward was full-back when the Six Nations tournament first started, but playmaker Marcus Smith replaced them after their opening defeat by Ireland. In the summer, Smith would join the British and Irish Lions at full-back.

Steward and the agile were preferred because they were more versatile and attack-minded.

Steward told BBC Radio Leicester, “I think people can chop me down more than other 15s because of my size, weight, and shape.”

When it’s me because of my size, he’s too slow and he’s too immobile, which is annoying because other 15s make similar mistakes, getting beaten one-on-one, and people don’t tend to say anything.

You go out there and have your opinions, they say, but that’s the sport we play. It is up to me to decide whether I agree or disagree with what many people say.

Steward acknowledged last year that his ability to defuse the high ball, which England boss Steve Borthwick once called a “super strength,” was no longer seen as sufficient on the international stage. He realized this year that he would need to work on other aspects of his game.

I’m aware of what has been said, and I’d never be a player making excuses, he said, but what I’m doing is working incredibly hard at those things.

More importantly, I’m working on things that coaches want me to do and what will lead to my return to the team, not what couch people are saying.

Steward was called back for England in the summer due to his excellent form for the Tigers last season, which ended in a flimsy Premiership final defeat by Bath.

Steward claimed he let his “rugby do the talking” while on a tour of Argentina where he scored two tries in two Test starts.

He had been called the “forgotten man” when he was chosen for the series against Los Pumas, having only played for England twice in the years 2024 and 2025.

There are no two ways about it: “That tour was a chance for me to get back in the door,” Steward said.

I took that chance and exerted some pressure on myself, which, in my opinion, helped my performances.

There was a lot of pressure to show that I still have the same level of performance as Steve [Borthwick], because I was a senior player out there.

Aimee Lou Wood wants to see ‘nerds fall in love’ in her new BBC show

The six-part BBC series follows an agoraphobic film enthusiast named Evie, played by Wood, who transforms her mother’s garage into a weekly cinema for her and her best friend Noa, who Nabhaan Rizwan portrays.

When actors Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis first met as students at RADA, they instantly clicked and promised to write together one day. A decade later, the pair have co-written and starred in their first romantic comedy drama series, Film Club.

The six-part BBC series follows an agoraphobic film enthusiast Evie, played by Wood, who transforms her mother’s garage into a weekly cinema for herself and her best friend Noa, portrayed by Nabhaan Rizwan.

The pair are forced to consider for the first time that they might not be just friends when Noa reveals that he has secured his ideal job on the other side of the country.

The series explores relationships, family, friendship, love, and the escapism of cinema, and also stars Doctor Foster’s Suranne Jones, Liv Hill from The Serpent Queen, and Adam Long from Happy Valley. Wood, the author of the BAFTA-winning series, claims that she and her then-girlfriend, House of the Dragon’s Davis, started writing the series while lockdown was in progress.

“Ralph and I first met at RADA about ten years ago. We instantly connected and developed this strange, secret language on our first day. We agreed to collaborate on something one day. The 31-year-old Stockport-born actress explains, “Cut it to five years later and it’s lockdown.”

“During that time, it became so clear how much people needed film and TV. It was the only way to access the world beyond your own flat, to experience something bigger. Storytelling suddenly felt even more urgent. We’ve always had that need for stories. Everyone suddenly shared that obsession. People craved plot. We needed to be taken away, to escape.”

Wood, who recently received an Emmy nomination for her role in the third season of The White Lotus, reveals that she and Davis took inspiration from classic romantic comedies for their writing for the series. We lacked the vintage rom-comics. She elaborates that everything on TV felt too cool, too restrained, full of smouldering looks, sparse dialogue, and people were simply staring at each other in a seductive way.

Where was Meg Ryan, though? When Harry Met Sally, where were you? Holly Hunter, who appeared in broadcast news? We essentially desired nerds to fall in love. Instead of really cool, silent people, we wanted to see neurotic, messy people fall in love.

As part of their writing for the series, Davis, age 31, claims that they watched up to 12 movies a week during lockdown. He admits, “We got pretty geeky during lockdown, and that was our escape.”

“We just watched a lot of movies,” he said. We were once living together, but as people started to leave, going for walks, and having “velocity fun,” we were too scared. So we just stayed inside and watched 12 movies a weekend. Really, that is where everything came from.

We were originally theatre people, so we kind of kept our theatre hours in mind when writing. A vague 10-to-6. As we sat next to each other on a laptop, we would just keep laughing as we went along.

After glimpsing an early draft of the screenplay, Jones, 47, who plays Evie’s mother, reveals she was eager to join the cast. I recently finished an early draft and immediately realized, “This is so beautiful, I want to be a part of it.” I said, ‘ I’m in. Tell me when it’s taking place.

After I had first seen that draft, about a year and a half later, things actually started moving. What a gift, to be honest. It is so exquisitely written and stunning.

Suz, a passionately devoted and fashionable single mother played by Jones, claims that her portrayal of her engages in some serious pretense. She wants her girls to do well, and Sebastian wants everything to be nice.

“But with that narrative comes the pressure to present oneself well, to live a nice life, to have fun, and to appear composed.” She does all the covering up and hiding behind.

Wood mentioned her fellow cast members in her opening statement, saying that the entire experience felt unremarkable. Everyone in the building knew they were right for those areas as soon as they entered. Boom, she exaggerated. It was immediate.

Some of us were already acquainted with one another, but the filming process felt like a lifetime. That is not something that frequently occurs. You had to believe they had been doing this for eight years because there was a real sense of unity that this group of characters needed.

Film Club will be broadcast on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer on Tuesday, October 7.

When you think of well-known handbags, you typically think of ones that have endured for a long time and have remained faithful to time, like Dior’s saddle bag, a quilted Chanel bag, or Louis Vuitton’s monogrammed tote. Despite only being released in early 2020, Bottega Veneta’s Jodie is another more recent bag style that merits a spot in that line-up.

The hand-held knotted Jodie bag quickly gained popularity with celebrities despite the company producing woven leather handbags since 1975. She stated, “I didn’t do her] Kate’s makeup.” I would like to do that. Hannah Martin, one of my artists, has gained a lot of media attention in the UK.

Brown continued, “Hannah did provide me with some information that I should watch and set my alarm.” She texted me, “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God,” while we were conversing.

The founder of Bobbi Brown said that no one in the company used it when the interviewer inquired about whether the brand could be held responsible for the wedding day look. It was wrong to do it, not to me.

However, she did mention that a member of Kate’s staff wrote a letter to Brown expressing “how much she appreciated the make-up,” which is currently affixed to her office.
