Ukraine allies push security guarantees amid US and Russian uncertainties

In Paris, Western leaders have spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the possibility of providing security guarantees in the event of a peace agreement with Russia.

Leaders from Europe, Australia, Japan, and Canada as well as Zelenskyy and Steve Witkoff, the United States envoy, will attend the summit in Paris on Thursday. The attempt to agree security guarantees for Kyiv is still tense even as ceasefire negotiations stall.

To ensure that any agreement between Russia and Ukraine would be reached, the summit is expected to discuss how many troops those nations included in the “coalition of the willing” could commit.

However, the discussions are heavily influenced by President Donald Trump’s persistent reluctance to deploy troops and Russia’s opposition to sending foreign troops to Ukraine.

The “coalition” nations’ leaders, led by France and the United Kingdom, are attempting to convince Trump to support their efforts and fulfill their pledge to provide US military support.

According to a report from the Reuters news agency, Witkoff met with senior European officials before the meeting, quoting two diplomats.

On Thursday, NATO’s Mark Rutte asserted that Russia is not involved in any Ukrainian troop deployment.

Why do we care what Russia thinks about Ukrainian troops? It is a self-governing nation. They are not in charge of making their own decisions, he said.

It is up to the security guarantee forces in Ukraine to support a peace deal, they say. Rutte said during a trip to Prague that no one else could make a decision.

The coalition leaders endorsed plans for security guarantees drafted by their militaries the day before, according to French President Emmanuel Macron, who was speaking alongside Zelenskyy in Paris.

According to Macron, “We are ready, Europarcians, to provide security guarantees to Ukraine until a signed peace is reached,” adding that it was now necessary to assess Russia’s sincerity in regards to putting an end to the conflict.

Without going into specifics, European officials informed news agencies that the “technical” plans are complete.

According to an outline sent to attendees, British and French army chiefs were scheduled to give the leaders a Thursday briefing, according to Reuters.

However, European leaders have made it clear that any troop withdrawal agreement will only be possible with US support.

Second arrest over racist abuse sent to Jess Carter

Jess Carter, an England footballer, was the subject of “disgusting” racist abuse that was posted on social media. A second man has been detained.

According to reports that the 27-year-old defender had been sent texts during the UEFA Women’s Euros in July, police launched an investigation.

A 30-year-old Ripley resident has been detained by officers from Derbyshire Constabulary on suspicion of making obscene communications.

After being subjected to online racism during the tournament, Carter from Warwick previously stated that she was stepping down from social media.

The UK Football Police Unit launched an investigation into social media companies in order to identify those responsible for the messages following the incident.

Pool C of the Women’s Rugby World Cup: Ireland vs. New Zealand

Brighton &amp Hove Albion Stadium Date: Sunday, September Kick-off: 14:45 BST

In Sunday’s World Cup Pool C decider in Brighton, Scrum-half Emily Lane claims Ireland are “raring to go” and “looking forward to the challenge” of facing defending champions New Zealand.

After earning bonus points in their opening two matches, both teams have already advanced to the quarter-finals, but the winner of Sunday’s game will be the dominant force.

“We all want to go out this weekend and perform, put our hands up, and try to top the pool,” said Lane, “but it’s great that we have qualified.”

We simply want to demonstrate to the world that we can compete with world-class teams like New Zealand, which have won the World Cup six times.

We want to put our best foot forward in this game because they are a world-class team and we respect that.

Before facing the pressure of the Black Ferns, Lane knows there are some areas of his performance that need to be addressed before the country can win. In their opening game, Ireland defeated Spain 43-27 last weekend.

You must acknowledge the positive aspects of the game, but there are still opportunities for improvement. We also want to reduce penalties, be more physically challenged, and stop those tries.

“As backs, we have been working on executing in the green zone and scoring tries, and I think we’ve been doing that.”

It resembles a home World Cup, according to the author.

In their most recent meeting, a WXV1 encounter in Vancouver last September, Ireland won a sensational 29-27 victory over the reigning champions.

“That time for us was different.” I had just joined the squad, so I had to sort of find my feet and watch a few others take the lead, but now I’m more firmly rooted within the team, the Irish Sevens Paris Olympian explained.

Ireland moved to Brighton for Sunday’s game after playing their first two World Cup matches in Northampton. A nearly-capacity crowd of 30, 000 is expected to be there at the Brighton &amp, Hove Albion Stadium.

The majority of people will back Scott Bemand’s side.

The support is what makes this World Cup so exciting, and it almost feels like a home World Cup because we are so close to home.

Thailand set for vote on new PM amid power vacuum

Following royal officials’ opposition to the ruling Pheu Thai Party’s request to dissolve the parliament, the Thai parliament will vote on a new prime minister.

Pheu Thai’s request was turned down by the Office of the Privy Council, according to caretaker premier Phumtham Wechayachai, who stated on Thursday that it was inappropriate to present the draft of the Royal Decree to His Majesty at this time.

On Wednesday, the party of former prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who is still in charge of the palace, requested that the legislature be disbanded.

There are “controversited legal issues” regarding a caretaker premier’s authority to dissolve parliament, according to the office.

In the wake of the Constitutional Court’s firing of Paetongtarn on Friday due to an ethics violation, the parliament has the option to choose a new leader.

A clear path

The main opposition party, the conservative populist Bhumjaithai Party, announced it would support another opposition force to form the next government, prompting the decision to dissolve parliament.

MPs can now choose a new prime minister after the royal refusal.

Anutin Charnvirakul, the leader of Bhumjaithai, is expected to win the vote on Friday at around 10:00 am (03:00 GMT), according to the opposition coalition.

Former Attorney General Chaikasem Nitisiri, 77, will be nominated for the presidency by Pheu Thai. In the event that Chaikasem wins, the party has also stated that it will hold a snap election.

Acting Prime Minister Phumtham told reporters, “We will immediately dissolve parliament to allow the democratic system to continue.”

Pheu Thai appears to be trying to undermine the People’s Party’s pact, which stipulates that the latter, the largest party in parliament, would support Anutin in exchange for a pledge to put the house in four months.

Sirikanya Tansakun, the People’s Party deputy leader, resolutely backed the agreement, though.

dominant forces

Anutin, 58, was previously in charge of the cannabis industry as deputy prime minister, interior minister, and health minister. He is perhaps most well known for honoring a 2022 promise to legalize marijuana.

Pheu Thai has dominated Thai politics for 20 years, fostering a populist identity that has tamed with the pro-monarchy, pro-military establishment.

The Shinawatra dynasty, which is increasingly bedeviled by legal and political disarray, received yet another devastating blow from Paetongtarn’s dismissal.

Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights trailer dubbed ‘softcore porn’ by fans

Fans are divided after seeing the first trailer for the Emerald Fennell film, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation.

Wuthering Heights fans were gobsmacked after watching the first trailer for Emerald Fennell’s racy adaptation of the classic. The movie already divided fans with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi being cast as the leads of the updated version of the Emily Brontë novel.

Margot takes on the role of Catherine Earnshaw while Euphoria star Jacob transforms into Heathcliff. Saltburn director Emerald’s version won’t be faithful to the original novel, much to the disappointment of many. Just last month, test screenings proved to be disastrous as some were disgusted by the raunchy scenes.

Many people also criticized the first trailer, calling it “erotic softcore porn.”

One user said on X/Twitter: “Is Wuthering Heights about BDSM and fingering a fish? First in my generation to see a scene like that,” while another posted: “Listen, I’m no puritan and I’m into horror.

We are completely altering the tone andamp; theme of the novel, so it’s not the hypersexuality that makes me side-eye this, it’s just that it takes a f**k to go nuts. Why? She might make a unique feature film, but…

One user wrote, “I don’t even like the book, and the erotic retelling of Wuthering Heights makes me feel spooked.

Viewers were divided by the first re-telling trailer.

One shocked user wrote, “They turned wuthering heights into soft porn, “while another posted, “I’m so fucking mad at that f**ka** wuthering heights adaptation if you want to do a stupid f**king pseudo-plot and do whatever you want to leave literature alone.

Fans of the trailer saw two particularly memorable moments, one in which Robbie’s fingers are in Elordi’s mouth and the other in which a person’s finger slides into the mouth of a dead fish.

The movie was labeled as “tonally abrasive” and “sexually explicit” after a test screening. A public hanging is the first scene in the film, but this is by far the most egregious scene in the opening sequel.

The male appears to ejaculate in the middle of the execution, causing a frantic commotion in the unaware crowd, which eventually turns into an orgiastic mess with a nun fondling the corpse’s apparent erection.

The sexual drive theme is present throughout the production, with scenes featuring “clinical masturbation” and horse-ride bonding, but the plot and emotions are less conventional than those who are familiar with Bront’s work.

On February 14, 2026, Wuthering Heights will be available in UK theaters.

Dragons demand rethink on ‘unacceptable’ WRU plans

The plans for the elite game, which propose reducing four professional sides to two, have been rejected by the Dragons, who have stated that “Welsh rugby deserves better.”

The Welsh Rugby Union’s (WRU) plan to change the game’s fortunes is currently in its first week of operation.

The “optimal system” proposed by the governing body would reduce Cardiff, Dragons, Ospreys, and Scarlets to two men’s professional sides.

On Tuesday, the Rodney Parade club and the WRU spoke about the plans.

A Dragons statement read, “No compelling case has been made to reduce the number of professional teams to two.”

The WRU acquired Dragons in 2017 and transferred it to private ownership in 2023 with the completion of a partnership that included the nine-acre Rodney Parade site with co-owners David Wright, David Buttress, and Hoyoung Huh.

The new business models would require private investors to be in charge of all rugby operations while the WRU would provide all funding for commercial ones.

The Dragons’ statement read, “The governance structures that the WRU has outlined are unacceptable.”

Dragons chairman WRU must reevaluate.

In May, the Dragons, who finished last year at the bottom of the United Rugby Championship, partnered with the WRU to sign a new Professional Rugby Agreement.

They claim to have a “clear plan to improve on-field performance” and are financially stable.

They are seeking legal counsel, and they are asking the WRU to alter their plans while they will go forward with the consultation.

The initial proposals simply don’t add up, according to chairman Wright, who is “extremely disappointed in them.”

We want to find a solution and will continue to participate in the consultation.

There is no way we can accept the proposals in their current form, despite our commitment to ensuring a prosperous future for Welsh rugby and to continuing elite rugby in Gwent.

A report will be sent to the WRU board in mid-October, with a final decision expected by the end of that month, which will be followed by the consultation process’ conclusion on Friday, September 26.
