Marc Guehi’s signing by Liverpool on the transfer deadline day was unsuccessful.

Guehi’s sale to the Merseyside club for a fee of $35 million plus a 10% sell-on clause was reached.

Before signing what would have been a five-year contract with the Premier League champions, the 25-year-old had been given permission to complete the formalities of his move and had begun a medical in London on Monday.

However, sources have now confirmed the agreement has been terminated.

Igor Julio, the target, chose to move to West Ham, causing Palace to struggle to find a replacement.

On deadline day, they completed two signings.

Christantus Uche signed for Getafe on a season-long loan while Jaydee Canvot joined Toulouse on a four-year deal.

It will be difficult for a club with limited resources like Palace to sign a top-notch replacement if, as expected, Guehi leaves next summer on a free transfer.

Aston Villa have signed Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho and Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott on loan, with both parties agreeing to pay a purchase fee.

Elliott, 22, will receive a £35 million package, which includes sell-on and buy-back clauses.

Elliott’s signature was contested by Villa, who also turned down West Ham and Fulham earlier this summer.
