Lucy Letby convictions under scrutiny as experts challenge trial evidence in new ITV doc

In a documentary called Lucy Letby: Beyond Reasonable Doubt?, medical experts question the allegations that the convicted nurse killed seven babies and attempted to kill seven others as her legal team prepares to file an appeal.

Several medical experts criticise the “deeply disturbing” and “flawed” evidence used to convict killer nurse Lucy Letby in a new documentary on TV tonight.

Letby was found guilty of murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to kill seven others and was handed 15 whole life sentences, meaning she will never be released from prison.

But in ITV’s Lucy Letby: Beyond Reasonable Doubt? her barrister Mark McDonald says: “There’s no direct evidence, no one saw her do anything wrong.” It comes after it was reported that ‘scared’ Letby can’t lose weight as she hoards ‘junk food’ behind bars.

She has caused harm, he adds, “In the trial, they started from the beginning.” We’ll just come up with a theory, so we can show how she has hurt each child. And that theory led to her conviction.

There are no longer any appeals. However, a panel of medical experts led by Dr. Shoo Lee discovered that Letby had not mutilated any infants. The Criminal Cases Review Commission has now received a request from her defense team.

Former Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health president Dr. Neena Modi says: “It’s been deeply unsettling that such a hugely significant trial has been conducted with so many shortcomings.”

A shift chart, which allegedly demonstrates that Letby was present when the babies were being treated at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016, is one alleged flaw.

However, Letby was absent from some instances, according to statistician Professor Jane Hutton, adding that, “This is a summary that can only be described as grossly misleading.”

Additionally, it was claimed that Letby had removed a breathing tube to cause the death of one baby. However, some experts claim that there are “various reasons” why the tubes can be dislodged.

In court, Letby’s notes, including the phrase “I am evil I did this,” were given as confessionals. However, it is claimed that hospital staff encouraged her to record her feelings to help her manage stress.

Additionally, it is claimed that Dr. Dewi Evans, the prosecution’s lead expert, has had his perspective on the deaths of three children in the past three years.

He denies this, claiming that a jury and the Court of Appeal have sided with him on his evidence. He also contends that Dr. Shoo Lee’s panel’s case contains significant factual errors and has not been subjected to legal scrutiny.

Following two jury trials, Lucy Letby was found guilty of 15 different counts by the CPS.

Letby’s request for an appeal was denied by the Court of Appeal in May 2024, rejecting her claim that expert prosecution evidence was flawed.

Additionally, it stated that it is taking into account police reports from the Countess of Chester and Liverpool Women’s Hospital regarding additional infant deaths and collapses.

Beyond Reasonable Doubt, Lucy Letby? is on ITV1, at 10.20pm, tonight.

But only fans with an £80 VIP ticket for An Evening with Harry Redknapp at St Petroc’s Church in Bodmin, Cornwall, will get a selfie with the 78-year-old.

Comply With US Visa Conditions To Avoid Expanded Restrictions, NIS Tells Nigerians

Nigerians are being urged by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to use their U.S. visas responsibly and strictly in accordance with the application’s purpose.

Akinsola Akinlabi, the service’s public relations officer, warned Nigerians holding U.S. visas to adhere to the terms and conditions that were set forth in an advisory issued on Saturday in Abuja.

The United States Government has raised concerns about the misuse of U.S. visas by Nigerians, according to the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“It is advised to all visa holders to strictly adhere to the objectives stated in their visa applications. Beyond the initial point of entry into the country, U.S. authorities conduct security checks. Any violation of immigration laws or other laws could result in deportation or revocation of a visa.

He warned that “violation of visa conditions, including overstaying, could result in severe penalties, including removal from the United States and permanent ineligibility for upcoming travel.”

Akinlabi claimed that the United States is still committed to upholding its immigration laws and that all visa holders must adhere to them.

He also advised Nigerian students in the United States to continue their academic endeavors and refrain from unapproved withdrawal or absenteeism, warning that this could result in the cancellation of visas and the void of U.S. travel eligibility in the future.

In an effort to secure U.S. citizenship for their children, the NIS emphasized that the U.S. consular officers have the right to refuse applications for tourist visas to people who are suspected of intending to travel to give birth.

US authorities investigating ex-Trump prosecutor Jack Smith

According to US media reports, former special prosecutor Jack Smith, who led two cases against Donald Trump, has been the subject of an investigation.

The Office of Special Counsel, an independent federal agency, opened an investigation into Smith over allegations of illegal political activity, according to a report from The Associated Press, NBC News, and other US news outlets on Saturday.

Trump and his Republican allies, including Senator Tom Cotton, have accused Smith of breaking the Hatch Act, a federal law that forbids some public officials from running for office, without providing any evidence of wrongdoing.

In a social media post this week, Cotton claimed that Smith had “instrumentalized the law” against Trump in the run-up to the US presidential election in 2024.

On Wednesday, Cotton wrote on X, “I’ve asked the Office of Special Counsel to look into his actions that were likely indecently against the law.”

In November of this year, former Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith as special counsel for Trump.

He was the Republican leader’s alleged mishandling of classified government documents and his unsuccessful bid to overturn the 2020 election’s outcome in a federal court case against him and Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump claimed that US prosecutors were motivated by political reasons and denied any wrongdoing.

After Trump was re-elected in November 2024, which would have shielded him from prosecution under a well-established Justice Department practice, Smith ultimately dropped the cases, neither of which had ever been brought to trial.

Soon before Trump’s January inauguration, Smith abruptly resigned from the department.

In a report released at the time, US prosecutors claimed that Trump would have been found guilty of “criminal efforts to retain power” following the 2020 election if he had not won the presidential election in 2024.

Romeo Beckham spotted at Oasis gig with footballer as he risks telling off from dad

Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher’s most recent reunion concert at Wembley Stadium was tonight’s Oasis reunion performance by Romeo Beckham and John Stones, both of whom were in the stadium’s VIP area.

The audience at Oasis’ latest concert at Wembley Stadium included Romeo Beckham tonight. He was spotted in the crowd at the venue in London beside a footballer who plays for a rival squad to David Beckham’s favourite team.

Romeo, 22, has been spotted at the gig, which is the band’s fourth performance at the stadium on the Oasis Live ’25 tour, this evening. The model was seen alongside footballer John Stones, 31, in an exclusive section of the venue.

He appeared to be in good spirits in photos that show him waiting for the reunited rock band to take to the stage earlier tonight. It comes after Wayne Rooney is banned from watching son, 15, play football for sad reason.

The photos showed Romeo in the VIP area of Wembley Stadium, which welcomed a host of other celebrities last weekend. He was spotted beside Manchester City player John, who plays for England internationally, in the crowd.

Romeo, who backs Arsenal, was seen speaking and smiling in the lower-level exclusive section of the stadium. While Oasis were awaited the performance at the gig, he was spotted speaking to John “at length.”

His father David notably played for Manchester United for more than a decade instead. A life-long fan of the team, he’s poked fun over being rivals with Man City, supporting by Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher, over the years.

He was included after he watched the 2021 documentary Oasis Knebworth 1996. Football manager David posted a picture of himself and his pal Noel on social media with the caption “What a great film mate… Oasis at Knebworth 1996 … Absolutely loved it… Took me right back to the good old 90s when United were winning everything.”

David has himself been teased over his loyalty to United. As reported at the time, Romeo trolled his father in 2023 after the retired footballer’s team lost 3-2 to Arsenal in a match at Emirates Stadium that they had both attended.

Alongside a post-match selfie showing them stood outside the stadium following his team’s victory, Romeo wrote in a message to his father on Instagram at the time: “Sleep tight dad.” David responded on the platform: “Whatever.”

Romeo has previously claimed he doesn’t support United, and David has reportedly once claimed he was “disappointed” when he learned of his love for Arsenal. He has claimed that, despite his best efforts, he let his children support what they want.

Speaking to Shortlist in 2012, he said: “I tried to get Man United shirts on them early.” David then confirmed that Romeo supports Arsenal and told the outlet that he believes it was prompted by attending one of their games once.

David said that former manager Arsene Wenger treated Romeo “so well at the game,” including having given him a personalised shirt. David, who said he had a similar experience with United growing up, added: “I let them support whoever they want. They don’t have to support the teams I played for.”

Martin criticises Rangers ‘egos’ after opening draw

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Watch highlights from Motherwell v. Rangers

On iPlayer, watch

As head coach of the Rangers, Russell Martin has only managed 270 minutes of playing football, and he has already left his players without a name.

After the Ibrox side’s opening Scottish Premiership game, Martin said his players were “lucky to get a point” at Motherwell, 1-1.

The impressive Fir Park side was “braver” and “more aggressive” than his team, according to an “extremely disappointed and hurt” Ibrox head coach.

He criticized “two men on the pitch who want to do what they want to do” and said some of his players “must drop their egos.”

He continued, “Revert to type is the default.” It’s a mentality issue, not really tactical, according to the author.

What was Martin’s actual statement?

Martin said he was “so proud” of his players on Wednesday in Athens, pointing out that performances could have been better in the Rangers’ two-legged Champions League qualifying victory over Panathinaikos.

The mood has dramatically changed after three days.

After his third game as manager of Rangers, Martin made the decision to stay put in two post-game interviews with BBC Scotland and Sky Sports.

What are his most enraged words in this excerpt:

What data are gathered from this quiz?

What was it made by the experts?

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has expressed deep concern about the approach of his old side before Motherwell scored the late winner.

He said on BBC Sportsound, “At the moment, there’s nothing coming from Rangers, it’s quite worrying.” I’m not even aware of their strategy. “I don’t see it,”

Ferguson continued, “I’ve got a real worry after watching that second half,” after Motherwell scored the leveller for their play. They still need to show that Rangers support to their players.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd expressed his fury on Sky Sports, saying, “It’s the same things that keep happening time after time.”

“It’s the beginning of the season.” We are aware that players will show up. We are aware that some players will leave. The alarming thing is that he is bringing them down so quickly, though.

Former Celtic forward Chris Sutton was offended by the Rangers boss’ comments, calling them “extreme,” despite agreeing with Martin.

The head coach chose not to name the two players, but shortly after the hour, their respective replacements, Lyall Cameron and Cyriel Dessers, were named as well.

He must believe they are rank rotten because he must watch them every day during their first game of the season, Sutton said on Sky Sports.

What can we infer from statistics?

Opta

According to former Motherwell forward James McFadden, “a draw was a good result for Rangers.”

The statistics support the claim, though it may have been made with tongue in cheek.

By the end of the match, Rangers’ expected goals total was 0. 7 while Motherwell’s expected total was 2.21.

According to stats provider Opta, Jens Berthel Askou’s brave and expansive side had five big chances to win the game. One was a threat.

With only three games remaining this season, Martin’s side have faced 51 attempts in all but one of those at Fir Park thanks to the 17 shots Martin’s side faced.

Rangers have only conceded twice in those three games, but their rivals have amassed a total expected goals total of 5.58.

What are the fans’ opinions?

Bill: It’s still early, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this Rangers team competed for the title. Very poor

Stevie, has anyone dried the paint on the wall? Better to watch than Russell Martin’s dull strategy.

Brutal, George Martin has no idea. No direction, no quality, or style.

Graeme: Rangers have a different manager, different team, and the same guff.
