Richard Osman names one country that is ‘joy’ to visit for unexpected reason

Richard Osman has become a household name in the UK, but his success across the pond has meant he can move around without being stopped by fans of his work

Richard Osman has revealed one nation that proves a “joy to visit” for a rather surprising reason. The 54-year-old has established himself as a familiar face across Britain through his roles on television programmes including Pointless and Richard Osman’s House of Games.

However, it’s his literary career that has catapulted Richard to global stardom. His The Thursday Murder Club book series has proved a smash hit on either side of the pond, earning recognition as a New York Times bestseller.

The Netflix adaptation, featuring stars like Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, is due to launch later this month, reports the Express. Yet Richard reveals his authorial triumph in America has allowed him to wander about completely unrecognised.

During his The Rest is Entertainment podcast, he describes how this makes the US a “joy” to explore. He shared: “Most people don’t pay much attention to what authors look like. If I’m in America, it’s just a joy because I don’t get stopped on the street, all that sort of stuff.

“If you’re stopped at customs and they say you’re an author and who you are, people have heard of you, and have read the books, so it’s like you’re John Grisham but for America. You can have a whole holiday where you do exactly what you want, where you want.”

Richard elaborated that while avid readers of authors like John Grisham might recognise him from book jackets, the general public likely wouldn’t.

The telly host delved into his experiences in the US after a listener queried about the “best job” in showbiz, suggesting band members with famous frontmen, such as Coldplay, can “live out their best rock and roll life” yet can “probably pop to Tesco without getting hassled”.

However, Richard pointed out that some folks enter the entertainment industry “to be famous”. He added: “I think if you want the joy of being in a creative industry and you want absolutely loads of money and huge amounts of adrenaline but you want to walk down the street, then being in Coldplay is quite hard to beat as a job in showbusiness.”

Richard further explained that musicians have to do “loads of promo”. His brother, Suede bassist Mat Osman, informed Richard that a band like Coldplay would be expected to sign around 150,000 albums for promotional material.

The TV personality concluded that being a travel blogger would be among the top jobs for those seeking anonymity whilst working in the entertainment industry.

He added: “You get to spend your entire life on holiday, wherever you go on holiday people absolutely love you, but outside your sphere, no one would necessarily recognise you, that would be a nice entertainment job.”

FG To Arraign Owo Church Attack Suspects Three Years After

The Federal Government is set to arraign Idris Omeiza; Al-Qasim Idris; Jamiu Abdulmalik; Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Abubakar who are alleged to be responsible for the June 5, 2022 bombing of Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

The suspects are to be arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The Federal Government filed nine counts bordering on terrorism against the five defendants.

The arraignment of the suspects comes three years after the then Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, said those behind the attack were arrested.

The National security Council had linked the attack to heinous activities of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Over 40 persons were killed and many injured during the attack.

Former Love Island star and influencer Molly-Mae Hague enjoyed a luxury holiday in Turkey with Tommy Fury and daughter Bambi but fans have been left unimpressed

Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury have just returned back to the UK after soaking up the sun in Turkey on their latest family holiday.

The former Love Island stars have both shared wholesome snaps of their getaway with baby Bambi. However, some of Molly-Mae’s followers have been left baffled by her recent confession that she’s had a ‘boring’ summer and rushed to remind her of her confession in the comment section.

Fresh from spending some time in St. Tropez, Molly-Mae, 26, enjoyed the delights of the Turkish resort city of Antalya with her beau and the couples two-year-old daughter after admitting that she had never been to Turkey before.

The mum-of-one and her partner Tommy, 26, stayed at a £2,000 a night hotel, which “has been carefully curated to deliver a true family holiday without compromise” and boasts 553 spacious suites and private villas.

Regnum Aquatlantis is a favourite with many celebrities as Stacey Solomon calls it her “second home”. Meanwhile, the likes of Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Jason Derulo and Sir Tom Jones have also checked into the hotel group’s other sites across the world.

The vacation is a welcome break for Molly-Mae, who recently bemoaned her lack of a social life. “I will get to the end of summer without having done one fun thing,” the reality TV star moaned while talking to her sister Zoe in July.

“Zoe, I haven’t socialised once. I am going to get to the end of this summer, I haven’t done one social fun thing. I haven’t a life. I haven’t a life. It’s not good.

“It’s all kids-related, if it’s not work and kids I am not doing anything. It’s not good. People going for a drink with their friends or to a beer garden.”

She added: “Oh my gosh, I don’t remember the last time I did my hair and makeup and put an outfit on for something that wasn’t work related. I don’t do anything. Lets normalise it. For the girls that are going to get to the end of summer and not done one fun thing.”

After sharing a number of wholesome family photos with Tommy and Bambi, several of Molly-Mae’s followers flocked to the comment section to remind her of her ‘tone deaf’ complaint.

They hit out at the influencer given that she has already been on over ten big holidays this year as well as a couple of luxury getaways in the UK.

Underneath her latest Instagram offering, one user wrote: “Molly doing not one fun thing …again.” Another added: “Still don’t think you’ve done anything fun yet Molly?”

“She’s been on holiday 3 or 4 times in like two months and said she has done nothing fun all summer. Make it make sense,” someone else complained.

“Oh is this the boring summer where you’ve done nothing?? lol,” another follower commented under the post.

Another unimpressed Instagram user echoed: “God she’s so out of touch. Flying off to Turkey on a whim and then says she’s done nothing all summer.”

The criticism from fans came because Molly-Mae had been updating her followers on her busy summer where she attended Wimbledon, went on a family motorhome holiday in the Isle of Man.

The former Love Island star has been on at least ten holidays this year already after two trips to Dubai, Budapest, Paris, St. Moritz, and Disneyland Paris, as well as her most recent trip to Turkey.

Molly-Mae also took a very luxurious trip to Saint Tropez last month.

Sophie Turner issues savage response to mum shamer who accuses her of abandoning kids

Game of Thrones star and mum-of-two, Sophie Turner, shared a snap of herself at an Oasis concert, larking about with a pal, but one of her followers was not impressed

Sophie Turner has slammed a fan, who accused her of abandoning her two children

Sophie Turner has slammed a fan, who accused her of abandoning her two children, in a savage exchange on Instagram. The Game of Thrones star, 29, shares daughters, Willa, four, and Delphine, two, with her ex-husband, Joe Jonas.

The actress, who is reportedly back with her on/off boyfriend, aristocrat, Peregrine Pearson, co-parents her kids with Joe, who lives in LA, and was quick to point this out to a follower, who accused Sophie of ‘forgetting’ about her daughters.

Taking to Instagram, sharing a snap of herself and a pal, larking about at Oasis’ gig in London last week, the Sansa Stark star wrote: “Bucket hats and beers. That’ll do me. Thank you @Levis.” It comes as Noel Gallagher was seen in tears at the band’s latest gig in Edinburgh at the weekend.

Responding to Sophie, one of her followers said: “Lmfao I think she has forgotten that she has two kids.” However, Sophie shot back: “Ah, I’m so sorry, sometimes, I forget some people can’t think for themselves.

“So, get this… There’s this crazy thing called shared custody. Maybe, just maybe, they were with their dad that day.”

Sophie was married to Joe from 2019 to 2023 before the singer filed for divorce in September 2023, which kick-started a lengthy and messy custody battle.

While Sophie is British, and petitioned to be able to travel across the pond with her kids, Joe hails from New Jersey and wanted to keep them nearby.

The former couple ultimately agreed to share custody.

“After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the US and the UK,” the now exes said in a statement to Us Weekly at the time.

“We look forward to being great coparents.”

While they were together, Sophie and Joe delighted their fans by regularly sharing sharing snaps of themselves, looking loved up. Sophie even appeared in a music video for the Jonas Brothers – alongside Joe’s brothers Nick, and Kevin, and their respective wives Priyanka Chopra, and Danielle Deleasa.

However, their relationship wasn’t to be and last year, the actress shared her hopes for the future of her two daughters, while navigating life as single mum.

Speaking to Harpers Bazar, Sophie said she hopes her children regard her as a successful provider for them, sharing: “I want them to see me having a social life and enjoying work and thriving in my career and relationships. I want them to see a hard-working mum. I’ll come back and say, ‘This is why Mummy was away – it’s because she’s doing this for you, so Father Christmas can come with a big bundle of presents’.”.

Israel assassinates 5 Al Jazeera staff: Scenes of carnage in Gaza City

Israel has assassinated Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif and four other staff in a targeted attack on a tent in Gaza City, taking the total number of journalists killed since October 7, 2023 to 269.

Correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh, cameramen Ibrahim Zaher and Moamen Aliwa, and their assistant Mohammed Noufal were meeting in a media tent outside al-Shifa Hospital when they were targeted by a drone.

Two others were killed in the Sunday evening attack that has drawn condemnation.

Al Jazeera Media Network has condemned what it called a “targeted assassination” and called it “yet another blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom”.

“This attack comes amid the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, which has seen the relentless slaughter of civilians, forced starvation, and the obliteration of entire communities,” the network said in a statement.

“The order to assassinate Anas Al Sharif, one of Gaza’s bravest journalists, and his colleagues, is a desperate attempt to silence the voices exposing the impending seizure and occupation of Gaza.”

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) says it is “appalled” by Israel’s killing of Al Jazeera journalists.

“Israel’s pattern of labeling journalists as militants without providing credible evidence raises serious questions about its intent and respect for press freedom,” said the CPJ’s regional director, Sara Qudah.

“Journalists are civilians and must never be targeted. Those responsible for these killings must be held accountable,” Qudah added.

Last month the CPJ said it was gravely concerned for the safety of al-Sharif as he was being “targeted by an Israeli military smear campaign”.

Spurs open talks to sign Man City’s Savinho – but how would he fit?

Tottenham are in talks with Manchester City over a move to sign Brazil winger Savinho.

Discussions have been held between the two clubs in recent days over a possible deal for the 21-year-old.

Negotiations are at an early stage and it remains to be seen whether City will sanction a move for the Brazil international.

Sources have told BBC Sport that City are not looking to sell Savinho and that it would take offers of more than £50m for the club to consider doing so.

Savinho was a regular under Pep Guardiola last season, scoring three times in 48 appearances across all competitions.

But City signed France winger Rayan Cherki from Lyon in a £30m deal this summer, which could limit Savinho’s opportunities at the Etihad.

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank is keen to bolster his attacking options after Son Heung-min was sold to Major League Soccer side LAFC last week.

Mohammed Kudus arrived in a £55m deal from West Ham earlier this summer, while the club failed to secure a £60m deal for Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White.

Spurs’ need for attacking reinforcements has been heightened since midfielder James Maddison was ruled out for the majority of the upcoming season with a knee injury.

Where would Savinho fit in at Spurs?

After scoring nine league goals as Girona finished third in La Liga in the 2023-24 season, Savinho managed just one in his debut Premier League campaign.

That wasn’t for the want of trying – only Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne had more attempts on goal for City. But a lack of ruthlessness resulted in the Brazilian underperforming his expected goals total by four, the worst figure of any Premier League player last term.

Tottenham are well stocked in wide areas despite the departure of Son Heung-min, with four players – Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson – likely to compete for two starting spots in Thomas Frank’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

But they are short of attacking midfielders – Maddison will take a long time to recover from his ACL injury, while Dejan Kulusevski is recovering from a long-term patella issue.
