‘Fantastic’ Porthcawl could host Women’s Open again

Media PA

After holding a “fantastic” competition over the weekend, R&amp, A CEO Mark Darbon announced that Royal Porthcawl will be considered the site of a second Women’s Open.

Miyu Yamashita won the championship in south Wales, overcoming Charley Hull’s England and Minami Katsu’s compatriot Minami Katsu’s two-shot lead.

Darbon claims that the links course is not currently qualified to host the men’s Open Championship despite impressing with its infrastructure and facilities and attracting more than 47, 000 spectators.

They played this wonderful links golf course in some challenging conditions throughout the week.

“This is a fantastic venue. We are really concentrating on providing these amazing athletes with a stage] to perform at the AIG Women’s Open, which requires incredible venues.

“We are very proud of that number of venues,” according to the organizers, and this week has been great.

We believe venue selection is crucial, and we had a fantastic week in this city. I think it might also be put on the future.

Darbon praised the town, golf club, and government agencies’ cooperation.

He said, “We are incredibly proud of this being the largest women’s sporting event ever held in Wales.”

“Venues are very important to us,” he said. Not your first R&A championship is held here. Senior Opens and some of our top amateur victories have occurred here. Therefore, it is a place where we are very much thinking.

Royal Porthcawl is competing fiercely against it to host the men’s blue riband Open Championship, despite the fact that it has hit the mark in women’s, seniors, and amateur golf competitions.

Darbon acknowledged that “Look, it’s not being considered at the moment.”

The scale of the infrastructure needed these days to hold a modern Open Championship makes us very happy with the pool of venues we have available for the Open Championship.

We are considering adding an additional venue [in the Republic of Ireland’s Portmarnock] as part of that pool of options, but overall we are pleased with the venues we have.

Palace draw Fredrikstad or Midtjylland amid appeal wait

Despite a persistent appeal over their demotion from the Europa League, Crystal Palace have been drawn against Norwegian side Fredrikstad or Danish side Midtjylland in the play-off round.

Due to a violation of multi-club ownership regulations, Palace was demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League by Uefa.

American businessman John Textor, who owns most of French club Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League, previously owned a stake in the Eagles, which was sold in July.

According to the governing principles of European football, clubs that are owned by the same person or entity must have a certain level of influence before participating in the same European competition.

According to Uefa’s rules, Palace missed the deadline of March 1st, 2025 to present proof of multi-club ownership restructuring.

A hearing for the case is scheduled for August 8 because Palace have filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

On August 11th, it is anticipated that a decision will be made regarding the case.

The complaint centers on Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, French club Lyon, and Uefa, which issued the punishment.

If the punishment is severe, Forest will take Forest’s place in the Europa League after finishing seventh in the Premier League last year.

In the interim, Palace will face the winner of Fredrikstad or Midtjylland’s third qualifying round tie against the Conference League champion.

The Eagles will play Selhurst Park for the first game of their tie on August 21 and the second game on August 28.

Last year, Celtic defeated Slovan Bratislava 5-1 in Glasgow to move up to 21st place in the Champions League standings.

In the final 16 of their league phase matches, Bayern Munich narrowly lost, winning three and drawing three.

Celtic have defeated Kazakhstan’s Shakhter Karagandy and Astana in 2013 and 2017, but they have never played Kairat Almaty before.
