Channel 4’s The Inheritance is a brand new show which will see 13 contestants battle to win a fortune left by The Deceased, played by Elizabeth Hurley, with Rob Rinder working as The Executor.

The 12-part series will see the players battle it out in a series of challenges to unlock money from the will as they try to convince each other that only they should be trusted with the money pot. Every task they complete unlocks more cash, but only one person can claim it.

The Deceased’s final requests, a series of devilishly challenging assignments that require their intelligence, collaboration, and cunningness, are described in a program description.

It’s up to one player to convince the others that they are the only ones who deserve the money they all earn, according to the Deceased game, which has a delightful twist.

The competitors will be closely watched as The Deceased’s Executor and trustworthy legal advisor, Rob Rinder, takes over the tasks.

The players were introduced as the show began, as well as receiving a detailed explanation of the show’s purpose and how they will win the money. Many fans were left perplexed just minutes into the film because it was described as “overly complicated” and “a little faff” by some viewers.

One viewer took to X, formally known as Twitter, and wrote: “I don’t understand the task already”, while another added: “It’s all a bit of a faff”.

As the competitors take on the tasks, presenter Rob Rinder will take on the duties of The Deceased's Executor and trustworthy legal advisor.

A third said: “#theinheritance seems overly complicated for no reason”, while another claimed that the rules haven’t been properly explained: “So weird they haven’t explained the rules of the game or what the prize amount is. Sometimes telly treats viewers like idiots, but in #theinheritance they need to give us a wee clue what the actual stakes are.”

Others labelled the show as a ‘rip-off’ of BBC ’s The Traitors as one person penned: “Oh it’s that “The Traitors” rip-off on the other side #TheInheritance”, while another added: “So it’s The Traitors but on ch4?…”

Liz Hurley, who appeared on The One Show, described the show as “great,” saying she had seen it and had never had the opportunity to meet any contestants.

She said, “He was my sidekick, who I never met, because I’m dead and he’s there with the contestants,” when she referred to Rob Rinder.

“So I was just sadly by myself filming my parts, and I never really mingled with any of them.” But I’ve seen it, and it’s fantastic!”

Kate Garraway hit by new debt blow as firm reports eye-watering losses of £300k

The well-known Good Morning Britain presenter, who became an OBE in 2023, is having new financial worries after her media firm lost almost £300,000 in the previous year.

Kate Garraway’s media company reported losses of almost £300,000 last year, which raises new financial concerns for the TV presenter.

Good Morning Britain host Kate, 58, set up Praespero 100 Ltd to handle her media earnings. Accounts just filed to Companies House show it owed £288,122 for 2024. In 2023, it was £165,011 in the red, down from a £36,888 surplus in 2022.

Other than financial management, the business is described as having “radio broadcasting, television programming, and broadcasting activities, management consulting activities, and other business activities.”

It is a further blow to Kate, who racked up debts of £800,000 due to the £4,000 a week cost of caring for her husband Derek Draper in the four years he suffered the effects of Covid before his death, in January 2024, aged 56. She was hit with a tax bill for £716,000 after closing down their psychotherapy company Astra Aspera Ltd with £184,096 of debt.

She reportedly sold a property in London earlier this year to pay off her debts. Kate, who has two teenage children, described how she had to recoup her pension to pay the bills. Her financial affairs are now being handled by London firm Hacker Young.

In March 2024, Kate spoke about her money worries on GMB. She told her co-hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid : “I am ashamed of the fact that I am in debt… because I have an incredible job that I love, that’s very well paid.”

She once called her husband’s care costs “excessive” and “unpayable.” She has bravely acknowledged the difficulties carers face across the UK, claiming that many of them may have found themselves in situations worse than their own.

She stated, “I’m not a carer, traveling miles, paying for someone’s transportation, to go and help them for minimum wage.”

In one of her most gratifying moments, Kate was pictured with her late husband Derek and her parents, Gordon and Marilyn Garraway.

For her contributions to charity, journalism, and broadcasting, she was given an OBE.

Alcaraz shows ‘good rhythm’ to reach last eight

US Open 2025

Dates: August 24 through September 7 in Flushing Meadows, New York

In the fourth round, world number two Carlos Alcaraz defeated unseeded Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech to keep his pursuit of a second US Open title.

The 22-year-old, who has advanced to the last eight in five years, is still able to put together a set at this year’s tournament, going 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-4.

After beating Czech 20th seed Adrian Mannarino in four sets, the Spaniard will face Jiri Lehecka in the quarter-finals.

Alcaraz was at his most magical at times, resulting in 36 winners to 11 unforced errors, pursuing several drop-shots, and even creating an extravagant round-the-back return to counter Rinderknech’s attacking approach.

There was not a single break point in a tight opening set, with Alcaraz eventually winning 7-3. Both players served below 50% on their first serves.

Rinderknech’s untimely double-fault, which resulted in his opponent’s five straight set points, led to a run of five points in a row after the first set when he converted the second of his four set points.

“The first set was tight,” he said. The absence of break points did not mean that we were serving well; neither of us had good percentages, Alcaraz claimed.

“But after that, I started moving in a good rhythm and made the most of opportunities.”

I found a good rhythm after the second set, and I made an effort to keep it going.

He continued, “Sometimes I practice them, I’m not going to lie! ” when addressing his trick shots.

The 2022 champion converted the second with a stunning winner to take a 4-2 lead into the sixth game of the second set for his first break points of the match.

Rinderknech had two of his own opportunities before he stumbled on his serve before holding on for the win, 6-3, in the second set.

In the first game of the third, Rinderknech stopped Alcaraz’s momentum by saving a break point with a deft backhand volley. With both players rediscovered their first serves, the set appeared to be in a tie-break.

Alcaraz once more showed his talent in the ninth game, scoring a backhand passing shot for three break points. Rinderknech saved the first, but Alcaraz held on to secure the second place with a forehand long.

Lehecka advanced to his first US Open quarter-final after being defeated by Mannarino.

After winning the first two sets, the 23-year-old had one foot in the final eight before the unseeded Frenchman hit back and broke his opponent’s serve three times in the 32-minute third set.
