Ground-breaking Griffin takes over as RFU president

On Friday, Deborah Griffin took office as the first woman to lead the rugby football union in its 154-year history and serve as its president to promote change.

Her new position marks the culmination of her rugby-related life, which has led her to transition from playing to being the most senior backroom position in the English game.

The former Richmond player’s passion for rugby was immediately apparent when she first started playing the sport in college.

She said, “I just loved the game, and this was the most amazing thing I’ve ever done.”

“I only ever want other people to have the same thing because it has given me so much.”

Her impressive rugby resume demonstrates her commitment to giving others the opportunity to experience the same rewards.

She was one of four women to organize the first women’s rugby world championship in 1991, the first woman to serve on the RFU Council in 2010, and the first woman to serve on the RFU Board in 2014. She was also a founding member of the then Women’s Rugby Football Union.

She served for nine years on the RFU Audit Committee while also serving as a member of the World Rugby Council, a qualified chartered accountant.

One of her first responsibilities as RFU president will be the rapidly advancing Women’s Rugby World Cup, for which she received an OBE in 2011.

She said, “It’s about the entire game,” not just the women playing, you know.

Griffin travels to the tournament in a special way, driving to games on her campervan and staying overnight.

“My daughter will accompany me.” She will be working from the camper van for a year because she only gets three weeks of vacation per year in New York, so I need to make sure I have good WiFi spots there.

As England’s women prepare for the World Cup, Griffin recently met with them at their training facility.

The Red Roses have been frequently referred to as attempting to emulate the success of England’s football Lionesses, who have just won back-to-back European titles.

The Red Roses have won 25 games in a row and will be the favorites to win the tournament on home soil, but they have only once emerged as world champions despite reaching the final six World Cup matches.

My heart, which is obviously hoping that the trophy will be won at the tournament’s conclusion, said Griffin.

Griffin is entangled in reforming the government.

Griffin will soon face opposition from the World Cup, but in the fall the RFU’s governance reform will be in the spotlight.

After surviving a vote of no confidence last season, RFU CEO Bill Sweeney’s focus will be on assisting English rugby.

She said, “I do think that every aspect of the game wants us to evolve and strengthen our governance.”

“That’s really, really important,” and a lot of it was caused by societal changes. We can’t stand still, just like the world can’t.

It won’t move as quickly as some might believe, but I don’t believe that’s a problem.

“We won’t have another significant governance review until after ten or more years,” the statement read. Therefore, getting this right is really, really important because I prefer to do it.

The RFU Council will receive the governance review’s findings in the fall, but work on transferring more devolved authority to various regions might start sooner.

She wants the union to become more adaptable and responsive to the needs of each region after having previously visited clubs all over England.

“I believe people want to have more influence over regional conversations and decisions,” she said.

“Hampton’s solution differs from one for Cumbria,”’ says the statement. We’ve been considering how to make those decisions, particularly in light of the expansion of rugby at more local levels, for a number of years.

The son of a well-known musician is now pursuing a career in music in their footsteps. Their mother, who has won an Oscar, was present for them when they took to the stage earlier this week with their band for a concert.

Moses Martin, 19, is the youngest child of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, 48, and actor Gwyneth Paltrow, 52. The exes, who split in 2014 before getting divorce, but who have remained on good terms, are also parents to Apple Martin, 21.

Like his father, Moses is a member of a band, with him one third of trio Dancer. His group performed at a concert in Chicago recently whilst supporting another band. It comes after Chris issued a warning to his own fans during his first gig with Coldplay since a kiss cam scandal earlier this month.

Last night, Dancer, Moses’ band, took to the stage at the Thalia Hall in Chicago. He opened for Royel Otis, who are scheduled to play at Reading Festival and Leeds Festival in the near future, along with his bandmates Orlando and Andy.

Prior to the gig, Dancer posted about their appearance on platforms like Instagram. Alongside a video of the trio performing together whilst sat on the back of a truck, they shared details of the gig with their followers.

One person responded to the post with, “I love this band. Another titled the comments section “Amazing” The band’s post was read, “See ya there,” and another person responded.

How do I listen to your songs, asks another person? Dancer made fun of potential music coming out soon, and the band’s Instagram account responded, “Soon.”

Gwyneth liked the post and expressed her excitement over the upcoming performance in the comments. She declared, “Can’t wait, I promise to be there for my son.”

Later, she later revealed that she was present in a post on her platform’s own account. Last night, the actor posted a photo that appeared to have been taken backstage at the venue.

Gwyneth didn’t provide any captions for the three microphone kits, each with a band member’s name on them. More recently, she shared a picture of the band playing on stage in a post that was uploaded to her Instagram account earlier today.

In a celebration honoring Moses’ birthday on the platform in April, Gwyneth expressed pride over his musical prowess. Happy birthday to Moses, she wrote at the time. You are a dream come true, to be honest. You have a wonderful heart.

She continued, “You have an incredible intellect, and you are so gifted, so talented,” she wrote to him. I miss you so much at college because I listen to your music frequently. more than ever before. My boy, I love you.

Louis Rees-Zammit will re-enter the rugby union to play for the NFL.

18 months after the 24-year-old initially decided against playing rugby to pursue an American football career, the decision was made.

Rees-Zammit played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Kansas City Chiefs, but he didn’t take a snap in a regular-season game.

The former Gloucester wing hasn’t yet confirmed which rugby team he will join, having been capped 32 times by Wales and a tourist with the British andamp, Irish Lions.

It’s been a great experience, but it’s now time to return home. In order to give myself enough time to prepare everything for the upcoming season, I’ve chosen this moment.

Returning to rugby and pursuing my passions are the only things on my mind.

Rees-Zammit left the Kansas City Chiefs after failing to impress during 2024 pre-season appearances after taking the NFL’s International Player Pathway (IPP) program.

Rees-Zammit then joined the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad for the entire 2024 season.

The Jaguars never made the decision to elevate Rees-Zammit, even at both of their international games in London, despite being eligible for two occasions as part of the NFL’s IPP player rules to be added to the team’s active 53-man roster.

At the conclusion of the 2024 season, the Welshman temporarily left the organization, but he soon resigned as a member of the franchise’s expanded off-season roster.

Rees-Zammit’s future with the Jaguars’ organization was in doubt because reports from his training camp in July suggested he had missed training with a lower back injury.

Rees-Zammit made the announcement on Thursday that he would rejoin the rugby team after leaving the NFL.

Rees-Zammit won the Six Nations and traveled with the Lions before leaving rugby union in January 2024.
