US Open 2025

Dates: August 24 through September 7 in Flushing Meadows, New York

Emma Raducanu, a British competitor, successfully defeated Indonesian qualifier Janice Tjen to advance to the US Open third round.

In exactly 60 minutes, Raducanu won 6-2 6-1, thanks to strong serving and consistently deep groundstrokes.

The 2021 US Open champion’s only real concern came in the second set when she appeared to be bothered by a back niggle.

The 34th-ranked Raducanu, who could next face ex-WWII champion Elena Rybakina, said, “I’m very pleased with how I played.”

Tjen’s debut Tour-level victory over Veronika Kudermetova showed she had the ability to cause issues, even though she might have been competing in her first competition.

The 23-year-old only became a professional last year after earning her sociology degree at a university in the United States, but she has gained media attention with her 13 ITF World Tennis Tour victories.

Although Tjen’s style resembles that of the crafty former world number one Ashleigh Barty, Raducanu refused to let her rival find her stride.

Under new coach Francisco Roig, Raducanu is working to further develop her serve as a weapon, which was very successful against 149th-ranked Tjen.

She won 76% of her first serves, hit eight aces, and hit 79%, giving Tjen a lead at the start of the point.

Tjen was prevented from using her slice and variety by Raducanu’s power from the baseline as she continued to push her further into the court.

Although more difficult tests are still to come, especially if she faces Rybakina in the third round, Raducanu’s impressive performance continues onward.

Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025: Wales vs. Canada

Salford Community Stadium Date: Saturday, August 30 Kick-off: 12:00 BST

Why are Welsh women losing? After their disastrous World Cup opener, this question keeps coming up, and this time it comes in even more.

Even for the players themselves, it is a difficult question to answer.

The team has a strong women’s coach in Sean Lynn, a head coach in their third year of professional football, a head start over many other nations, and top-notch players who excel in England’s top league.

According to what we know, there are no off-field issues, and the environment is reportedly the best it has ever been.

However, Scotland fell to Wales 38-8, and the resultant lack of performance was both concerning and unsatisfactory.

We would all love to know the answer to the question, “Why we didn’t turn up on Saturday?”

You can’t deny the talent we have, the hard work we put in, and the fact that you do, I believe, when you do look at us as players.

Players are obviously in good physical condition after a successful pre-season with Lynn, but their outlook is a little more subjective.

Was Wales bullied off the park because of a lack of mental toughness, as Lynn once said?

Siwan Lillicrap, the former Wales captain, claims that mindset and self-assurance are important factors.

Has Wales struggled when we went on such a bad streak over the past 18 months because we went so far? she stated.

“Winning is a habit, and we haven’t won much in the last two seasons,” he said. It’s difficult psychologically, and in those pressured moments, we can feel lost.

A sports psychologist, according to Evans, is a valuable resource for players in camp.

Any athlete, she said, “I think you ask them because they probably rely on them a lot.”

They are amazing for both the team spirit and the ability to have difficult conversations in a safe environment for both people who probably would have taken the weekend quite differently.

Wales have two co-captains, Kate Williams and Alex Callender, but a former player has also pointed out that there is a lack of leadership in difficult circumstances.

What’s happening under the posts, I look at when they’ve conceded a try? How quickly do they mix and go? Do you hear any conversations? Philippa Tuttiett, a former Wales back, stated on the podcast Scrum V.

You shouldn’t really hear anyone talking because of the way they were acting; you just didn’t.

Whatever the shortcomings of Wales may be, they will need to have everything ready for Saturday.

They must win the game against Pool B favorites Canada if they want to maintain their slim quarter-final chances.

Evans acknowledges that Wales are a formidable underdog but that they will face challenges.

She said, “We’ve looked at ourselves individually and what we can bring to the team, especially in terms of energy and mentality.”

“It’s just about flipping the switch and making sure that nothing is left out there and no questions remain unanswered whenever we travel to the training paddock or field.”
